It started with a rumble. The three Hillocks of the 2nd Indian Ocean Patrol Fleet turned to starboard slightly. Each of their 36-tube Vertical Launch Systems open their hatches to reveal an ominous glow. Like an organ of death, the missiles rose from their silos into the sky. At a preset height, the long range warheads leaned towards shore and race to their target. Above the missile wave, three Medea-class aircraft watch the contrails of the ordinance. The transports are surrounded by their Jet Core Booster escorts as well as Depp Rogg bombers. The atmosphere in the cockpit of the Emerald City however, is not optimistic. "Hey Chief?" said the co-pilot. "Yeah Ben?" answers the pilot. "I don't think command likes us." "What do you mean?" "I mean, we've been chasing the Zeeks all over right? But it's only us. Just the handful of us from Torrington. Then they have us paradropping a sub for a week, only for stuff to go down in Earth Orbit. Now, we're attacking a Zeon base!" "So?" "So? SO?! We're a transport plane! Why are we flying over a Zeon fortress-" "We have guns." "Machine guns to fight aircraft! There are probably Zakus or worse out there!" "Ben..." "I mean, who else knows what's going to-" "BEN!" "Yeah, Chief?" "Hands on the stick, eyes on the horizon." "Yes, Chief." A monoeye swivels under camoflage netting. The Zaku II pilot magnifies his camera some more before clicking to a secure radio channel. Back at the HQ Bunker, the duty officer picks up a headset. "Shall I alert the AA batteries, sir?" "No," the duty officer said," they already know the location of the Artillery Howitzers. Last thing we need is for them to map out our defenses. Have the Zaku teams open fire then fall back to secondary bunker positions." "Aye sir." "...And notify General Bitter. He should know what's going on." The sound of gears grinding tracks, can be heard through the armor of GP03's cockpit. Colonel Belanie Reece watches as the Guntank II moves into place. "You're going to be okay, (>o.o)>?" asks the Colonel. "I'll be good. Just be ready for them when they come out," replies Sergeant Scarth Maheart. The missiles from the 2nd Indian Ocean Patrol Fleet peppers the mountain and the region around it. For ten minutes, the munitions upsets the top soil around Kimberlite. In response, the Artillery Howitzers boomed several rounds. When the thunder died down, it was replaced by the whine of jet engines. The aircraft pass overhead for a few minutes before the first Zaku open fire. A flak storm of 90mm and 120mm fire from Zaku machineguns blew around the air flotilla. Two Jet Core Boosters were caught as the rest of the formation scatters. The Medeas absorbs the blunt of the damage but the attack was only brief enough to do little damage to them. Depp Rogs and Jet Core Boosters retailates using strafing and bombing runs. But by that time, the Zeon mobile suits have gone under cover back underground. Reece and Maheart saw the firefight and quickly heavy shells and beam fire pepper the immediate location. But like the rest of the EFGF attack, the weapons fire fail to hit their mark. Shortly afterwards, the Medeas and their formation pass Kimberlite. Both the GP03 Stamen and Guntank II stayed, observing the battlefield until the sun went down. But nothing came out to challenge them. Unwilling to assault the fortress on their own, both pilots return to the 2nd Ocean Patrol Fleet. ![]()   • Belanie Reece: 5 VP gained, Repairing 1   • Scarth "(>o.o)>" Maheart: 2 VP gained, No Damage "So, how are we supposed to do this without being left behind the fleet?" Rem Hace asked as his Powered GM launched from the Albion. "Don't worry about that. Sympathy's taking up the rear. We'll just hitch a ride in its hangar." Aleksander Dolvich explained as his GP00, already deployed and waiting for Rem, cocked its 90mm Rifle at the Powered GM. The Powered GM drew its Machinegun to signal the start of the spar. The spar started with maneuvers instead of gunshots. The GP00 chased after the Powered GM to close the gap between both units. The Powered GM, however, used its massive thrusters to keep range between him and his opponent, outmaneuvering the GP00 at every turn. Unable to close the distance, the GP00 finally fired its 90mm Rifle. The shells from the GP00 struck the Powered GM's Tower Shield, leaving a tie-dye paint pattern across its bow. Rem responded by spraying rounds from his 100mm Machinegun at the GP00. Unfortunately, Aleksander didn't opt to bring his shield to the spar like Rem did. Aleksander tried his best to evade Rem's assault, but the abundance of shells fired and Rem's superior skill in space quickly overwhelmed him. Paint rounds splattered across both the GP00's legs before Rem was forced to reload. Aleksander's cockpit registered the loss of both legs and with them a number of thrusters. Aleksander knew he'd never catch the Powered GM now. Rem was forced to slow his maneuvers in order to properly reload his machinegun. Aleksander spotted this and fired his 90mm Rifle. The shot struck the Powered GM's extra clip, exploding its paint contents in Rem's face. "That doesn't count as a hit!" Rem yelled at his opponent as his mobile suit wiped the excess paint its face. "That's not the intent." Aleksander replied as he fired another round, striking the Powered GM's remaining extra clip. Rem's cockpit immediately registered the hit and forbid use of the ammunition. Aleksander smiled, his GP00 waved its rifle at his disarmed opponent. Rem stop for a moment to assess the situation. He still had his shield and his vulcans, and grenades clipped to his waist. "No way this can work, but..." Rem muttered as his Powered GM hurled his grenades at the GP00. The explosives burst a spray of M Particles and left an exact copy of the Powered GM in their wake. Aleksander cocked an eyebrow at the strategy. "Balloons. Really?" he inquired with disbelief. Aleksander looked at the balloons. 4 in total. But only one held a rifle. "I don't even need my sensors for this. Next time, drop your rifle before you use the balloons." Aleksander taunted as he fired at his preferred target. The Powered GM popped, a single rifle left floating in its wake. "I did." Rem replied from behind the GP00 before he rammed the unit's back with his shield. Aleksander spun to face his opponent, but only received a spray of vulcan fire to his suit's face for his troubles. "That's a finisher. Spar over." Rem declared as he docked the Powered GM's shield. "No Zeon ambush, huh? Guess we brought the beam rifles for nothing." Aleksander responded, his GP00 pointed to the rifle clipped to its back. "Better safe than sorry I guess. Where's the Sympathy?" Rem scanned the horizon for their transport. "Oh... Um. Looks like it passed us. Up for a race? Double or nothing?" Aleksander proposed, resetting the spar simulation in his cockpit. "You're on." Rem docked the Powered GM's shield and took position next to the GP00. "3... 2... 1... GO!" both pilots yelled in unison. ![]()   • Rem Hace: 6 VP Gained, Repairing 1   • Aleksander Dolvich: 5 VP Gained, Repairing 1 "Kamina in GM Cannon II, you are cleared to launch on the port catapault." "Rocz in GP01, you are cleared to launch on the starboard catapault." The two mobile suit stood on the launch strips of the mobile assault carrier Albion. Captain Melendez watches them from his chair on the bridge. He watches the rest of the Invincible 7th Fleet moving in formation outside of the Albion's bridge windows. "Remind the pilots that they need to be VIGILANT about their distance from the fleet," said Melendez," if they stray too far for this spar, they will be out of retrieval range." Moments later, two sparkles of light move away from the Federal Fleet. The GM Cannon II and GP01 finally slow to a stop. "Alright, let's do this," suggests Petty Officer Ianto Kamina as his GM Cannon II pulls the handle on the 90mm rifle. It is filled with paintball rounds today and although it is foolish to leave without any real weapons, today is just a spar so it should be okay. "Oh, LET'S," insists Sergeant Link Rocz as the GP01 lifts the beam rifle. An odd choice, thought Kamino, since it would be at a low setting and a waste of energy. Oh well. "Go!" Kamina's GM Cannon II rockets backwards, seeking the range safety he was familiar with. A cloud of paintballs is left in his wake as the GM Cannon II spun. The GP01 is no pushover however and the Gundam stays true to it origins by manuevering quickly out of the way. Kamina can see Rocz tracking him with the beam rifle, but strangely holding back his fire. The test pilot from Torrington is only taking measured shots which is hardly what Kamina expected. The two pilots duel back and forth, their different styles showing the contrast between them. While Rocz darts the GP01 around in high speed maneuvers, Kamina's GM Cannon II moves evasively in a much smaller space. Both are experienced in their fighting style and for a while it was evenly matched. Until Kamina saw Rocz reach for another weapon. He yanks his GM Cannon II to the side as the GP01 fired a beam shot at him. But this time, Kamina looked and saw the beam blast disintegrate a piece of flotsam. "That thing is at full power!" cried out the Petty Officer only to be cut off by the impact of very real 90mm rounds. "Whoop!" cheers Rocz," this fight is mine!" He began singing: I feel alive and the world it's turning inside out Yeah! I'm floating around in ecstasy So don't stop me now don't stop me 'Cause I'm having a good time having a good time... Kamina has to think fast. He doesn't know if Rocz is out to kill him or not but the result would probably be the same. The GM Cannon II rockets around the charred derelict hull of a Musai. Rocz follows the fleeing Kamina eagerly, his GP01 rushing around the wreckage like a bloodhound on the scent. What he got was a rifle butt to the GP01's V-fin. Kamina knew this was his chance as he doesn't know how quickly Rocz would recover. The GM Cannon II's hands grapple both the beam rifle and the 90mm machinegun. If Kamina could get one of those weapons he can- Then the beam jitte ignited. The rifle mounted beam saber cuts through the GM Cannon II's hand. Freed, the beam rifle swivels and nested the muzzle against the arm grabbing GP01's 90mm machinegun. In a flash, the GM Cannon II's arm was severed. There was nothing to stop the 90mm machinegun from blasting bits off the GM Cannon II's armor. Inside the mobile suit's cockpit, Kamina braced himself as consoles exploded and shrapnel flew all around him. "Oops, maybe that is too much," mused Rocz. The GP01 shook the GM Cannon II a bit. No response. "I guess it's time to head back." Both the GP01 and the GM Cannon II lands safely inside the hangar of the Albion. Rocz pops the cockpit hatch and the first thing he notices is the medical team opening up the GM Cannon II to get Kamina out. "Hey!" shouts Rocz," careful with him! We ran into some Zeon-!" The GP01 pilot didn't get to finish his sentence when a EFF Marine shoves the business end of his assault rifle in Rocz's face. "Don't even bother with any of that crap!" shouts an officer. The lieutenant floats over to Rocz with his pistol pointed at Rocz's head. "We saw what you did out there when we sent a patrol to remind you that you are falling too far behind the fleet." The junior officer gestures at the squad of soldiers around him. "Bring this pilot to the brig, Captain Melendez's orders. On the charge of lethal assault on a fellow EFF pilot under training conditions." As Link Rocz was put in manacles and led away from the GP01, he began to sing one last tune: But if you lose you're gonna pay the price Broken chains, like a prisoner free at last The fear inside just up and died Time will tell if i am wrong... ![]()   • Link Rocz: 8 VP gained, Jailed 3   • Ianto Kamina: 3 VP gained, Repairing 2, Injury 1 |
