Reclining in the chair, Yuji leveled his gaze back at Shoji as he rummaged through his folder.
"Do you really think I can tell you that? Even if I knew what was to be the end result of the Apsalus project, I couldn't tell you."
Removing his glasses, Yuji rubbed the sides of the bridge of his nose as he continued, "As of now its just trying to get a stable flight platform. If the project isn't scrapped, I'm sure they'll look into fitting weapons to it. But, that information is not only classified, but only divulged to me when necessary. I'm not but a lowly test pilot, after all."
Replacing his glasses, he smiled at his last sentence as well as what he was about to say. "Tougher than anticipated? Seems your courage is already failing you."

Shoji furled an eyebrow in response to what was seemingly a challenge, and he stared Yuji down without blinking for a few moments. Finally, he broke the silence.
"Our enemy is resourceful, but no matter how good their weapons are they don't have our resolve. They are my enemy, and I won't give up until victory is ours."
He relaxed, and slumped in his chair. The alcohol was starting to get to Shoji, just enough to calm him down.
"Well, the truth of the matter is that I'll be leaving this area soon. Command has seen fit to grant me the resources I need to reignite this ground campaign, and I know just how to start it."
Shoji grinned.
"Can I count on you, Yuji?"

Yuji rolled his eyes slightly as he stood from his chair.
"Of course. That's what we're all here for."
Crossing the distance between their chairs, stopping a few feet short of Shoji, Yuji stared down and the officer.
"Besides, I can't pass up an opportunity to see your courage falter in the face of your enemies."
Turning, he headed towards the door, cursing as he realized he'd have to find the comm room in the rain storm if it didn't let up soon. "What can I do to further the war effort?"

So there's something left inside of him after all. The SS is intimidating, to be sure, but I'll be able to trust him in a fight, I'm sure of that.
Shoji made a short stride over to his new friend, and stood.
"My mobile suit is still being repaired, so for now there's not much I can do. I'm counting on you to stay alive until everything is in place, and when all is said and done I want you by my side when we finish the fight."
Shoji nodded his head in a slight bow, and extended his hand in a gesture of farewell.
"I look forward to our next meeting, Oberschutze Yuji Takeshi."

Yuji glanced down at the hand before him. Sighing, he grasped it.
"I'll be there. Make sure you are, Second Lieutenant Ando Shoji."
With nothing left to add, Yuji stepped into the deluge and disappeared into the falling rain and darkness of night heading towards the comm building to signal for pickup.
Finish the fight, he thought. What an interesting fellow.
