::3:04am::
The ice walls were illuminated with lights, strung up along each side of the man made cave. The hangar almost seemed to glow as the ice diffused the lights, and reflected it off the water’s surface, creating an eerie atmosphere. Despite the cold steel, and giant submarines, the hangar had a serene feel about it. Not a soul was around to disturb the majestic aura of the cold arctic waters; except perhaps the one person who enjoyed its company most.
The Schutzstaffel officer sat at the feet of his Z’gok, the lights dancing across his face, a brief smile was allowed as memories of his little girl came and went. Xavier opened his eyes once more; they were as blue as the chilly waters themselves. It had been so long since he had seen his baby girl, but he had long since accepted she was gone forever.
“You like sitting in ill-lit, cold, uncomfortable places? Or you waiting on something to pop out the water?” A young girl stood at attention and saluted the officer as she came to a stop. “…Sir.” She smiled faintly as she looked down at the grizzled officer.
Brennan took a second to recollect his thoughts, burying the memories again as he always has. He looked around before slowly bringing his gaze upon the small child that stood before him. “Are you lost or something kid?” His eyes almost pierced her as he tried to intimidate her into leaving him in peace.
“No sir, Captain Marina Nimue, at your service.” Her golden hair cascaded from her dark uniform as she bowed politely to her officer. She flashed a smile, as he noticed the Schutzstaffel ensignia on her shoulder. He was taken a back as he looked into her eyes, they were the same blue as his daughter’s; was this young girl really the captain of his submarine?
“You’re just a child… this has to be a mistake. What was Gihren thinking?” He slowly rose to his feet, sighing as he now towered over the girl. The officer shook his head in disbelief; she couldn’t be any older than Ariel was when she died. Xavier’s heart pained a little at thought of having to bring her into battle; he began to swell up with emotions he had kept buried for so long.
“Ok kid, joke is over. Get lost.” He stared hard at the little girl, but she didn’t budge. Her small hands dug into her satchel and produced an envelope full of papers. “Here you go sir, orders from Gihren himself. You wanted the best, and I am it.” She smiled proudly as the Hauptsharfuhrer’s eyes raced over the papers.
“Why would he do this to me?” Once he reached the final page of the orders, a picture of his daughter was attached, with a note…
I thought she might remind you of someone… You were the only person I could trust with her.
-Gihren Zabi
His mind was mixed with emotions, angry for having this burden thrust upon him, but saddened by the memories of his beloved Ariel. Xavier tucked the papers away and brought his gaze back to the young girl in front of him. “How old are you?”
“17, Sir. The Ashray and my crew are at your command Hauptsharfuhrer!” She saluted him, trying to fight back a smile. She had worked so hard to get to where she was, and after much waiting, had finally been placed in the war.
“Stop it with that sir shit…” He shook his head, not sure if he was ready for the challenge. But Gihren had never led him astray, and he had to do as he wished, for Lord Gihren, for the Zeon…
“Get your men together, get my suits loaded, and prepare to ship out…We have a date with some of the Federation’s finest.” His tone deepened as he barked orders at the young girl. Her eyes widened in surprise as she jerked back to attention and turned around to prepare for launch.
As the small girl rushed frantically about, shouting at her crew, Marine couldn’t help but smile. She was with a real officer, and entering real combat, and finally getting to prove her worth as a Schuztstaffel member.
::4:12am::
Xavier resumed his spot on the docks, watching the water as it swirled about now from the activity around him. Cranes were loading and unloading missiles carefully while his suits were being boarded onto the Ashray. Mechanics and engineers alike were shuffling everywhere. Echoes of Marina’s tiny voice could be heard as she directed everyone as efficiently as she could. A small smile crept across his face again as he thought of Ariel…
Maybe this was his second chance?
