Aurem was sitting in his cockpit, silent as usual, re-calibrating some of the settings of his GM Sniper. A small break in the rain meant he could leave his cockpit open and enjoy the fresh air for a few moments before the downpour resumed.
There had been a constant stream of orders to fire on various targets throughout Southeast Asia for the past week. Though he had been more successful in his missions since leaving the now disbanded 87th integrated fleet, Aurem knew that it was in large part due to the surprise reinforcement by Land Combat Type GM, which was now kneeling opposite from Aurem's GM Sniper facing him with the cockpit also open for some fresh air.
I really don't know much about her, now that I think about it.
All Aurem did know was what he'd found in his new orders. Her name was Arieta Marius and she was also a Private E1. The only reason Aurem was in charge was because he'd had marginally more combat experience, most of it either at long range or on top of an aircraft carrier while damaged. Aurem shuddered trying not to remember almost dieing again. When he looked up, he noticed that the other cockpit was empty.
That is until a girl's head suddenly popped around the corner and looked at him from just outside his cockpit door. She was young, probably just a few years younger than Aurem, or so he guessed. She had slightly longer than shoulder length black hair tied into a loose braid in the back and bright blue eyes.
"Hi!" She said cheerfully. "We haven't really had time to get to know each other, have we? My name is --"
"Arieta. I know." Aurem said rather more coldly than he meant to.
The 87th Integrated fleet didn't have many females in it. Aurem reckoned that Bigby had probably already met most of those anyway, managed to insult them and their mothers, and didn't really want to follow in his wake.
There was an awkward pause while Arieta struggled to find a way to re-start the conversation.
"Well, I've got the food out. We should probably eat before it starts raining again." She said, unable to find anything, and hoping food would work as a catalyst.
Aurem nodded in agreement and finished fine tuning the calibration of his Mobile Suit while Arieta climbed down.
Not long after, rain started falling again, forcing the two to eat separately in their cockpits.
So much for getting to know each other over food.
