It was nearing sunset when Arieta's Land Combat Type GM finally returned from the battlefield. There were few clouds in the sky and the setting sun was casting an orange glow over most of the sky. Aurem, who had been with the Black Hawk for the whole battle, had been sitting on some boxes outside of the battleship reading a book and doing his best to look occupied and unworried. In truth, he was waiting for Arieta, but he would never admit it. Instead of actually reading his book, he had been contemplating what Bigby had said on the battlefield:
"This is why you never get the chicks bud."
Do you really have to be a jerk like Bigby? Aurem thought.
It had bothered him that he'd forgotten to warn Arieta about Bigby, and even more when she actually started getting along and becoming friends with him. She'd even followed him, chasing after some strange looking mobile suit, and now she was taking her sweet time getting back. Aurem hoped Bigby hadn't done anything to her.
Arieta appeared from out of the battleship looking cheerful as usual. She spotted Aurem sitting on his boxes pretending to read and made her way over. She also must have noticed that he wasn't actually reading.
"Were you waiting for me?" She asked.
Aurem help up his book as if that were an answer. "Have fun with Bigby?"
Arieta looked surprised, caught off guard that Aurem had started a conversation on his own in a direction she hadn't prodded him. "Yes. It's nice to be able to have real conversations sometimes." She said somewhat sarcastically trying to poke fun at Aurem.
"I didn't realize you liked talking about naked women." Aurem countered referring to her story that the whole fleet had heard over the radios.
Arieta blushed. "I... I got caught up in the moment. I don't usually talk about things like that, but that's pretty much all that Bigby talks about." She pleaded with honesty.
"I'm sorry. I should have warned you."
"About Bigby? It's true he's crude, but he's still fun to be around."
"And I'm not?"
There was silence for a few minutes Arieta again shocked and wondering how Aurem had reached that conclusion. "What is it with you? It's not like you to start conversations, especially not about stuff like this. It's almost like..."
Arieta pondered for a second, and then adopted a look of understanding. "I get it. You're jealous!" She announced putting her arms behind back and looking very proud of herself.
"Jealous? Of what?"
"Of how quickly Bigby and I became friends."
Aurem thought about it for a second. She'd just reminded him of someone else. Xenos, Aurem's half brother, was talkative and easily made friends too. But that was as far as Aurem was going to allow the memory to continue. Aurem's face darkened with anger at the memory. "Why should I be jealous of that? It wasn't me that started this relationship between us!"
Arieta looked extremely hurt, and Aurem immediately regretted not saying what he was actually feeling. Aurem was about to apologize when his commanding officer, Jarvis Ackart approached.
