Odessa; the final target in the Earth Federations’ operation. Many of the Federation troops wore a face of determination. They were all here for the same reason, to crush Zeon. You could feel how anxious some of the pilots were to get out on the field and start firing on their enemies. The atmosphere was certainly different than most battles, filled with dread and sorrow. It was clear that this battle gave people hope and thus drove them to conviction.
Bryce sat on the catwalk that lead up to the cockpit of his GM Land Combat Type. His legs hung down as he gripped the rails, looking his mobile suit up and down. Not having any real combat experience with it, he hoped it had enough power to win over Odessa. It needed to keep Bryce alive to get through it, at least. Although he was now with the Earth Federation, he has yet to get in touch with Arianna. General Revil kept things very strict amongst the Combined Odessa Task Force. Personal communications were off-limits while the fleet planted its’ feet right outside on the doorstep of Odessa. Even if the GM Land Combat Type wasn't powerful enough, Bryce would use his own skills to construct a victory. With his own hands.
A Federation soldier approached Bryce and notified him to follow. Considering his position amongst the ranks of the EFGF, Bryce didn't object. It would be in his best interest to cooperate as much as possible. Thinking to himself, Bryce figured that he was going to be questioned once again about Zeon and their plans for Odessa. He has seen almost every officer aboard the Combined Odessa Task Force Fleet ever since he left his holding cell. Whatever it may be though, it was just the price he had to pay to be with his love. A price he'd gladly pay, no matter what.
The Federation soldier escorted Bryce into a room and left, closing the door behind him, leaving Bryce alone with a man standing and looking at a large map of Odessa hanging on the wall.
"You summoned me, sir?" Bryce questioned.
Turning around, the man smiled seeing Bryce, "Yes, I did. Please, have a seat Private Hollerfelt." The man motioned as he sat down in his own chair. The rank badge on the man's uniform signified that he was a Colonel.
Bryce finished his salute and other formalities as he eased into the chair opposite of the Colonel. Examining the desktop of the Colonel, he saw a more welcoming scene. A cup with pens, a small vase with flowers in it, and then a picture sitting in an elegant frame. It was a normal looking desk, compared to the other officer's desks that were riddled with papers and war orders. That picture though drew Bryce's attention more and more as he looked at it. The frame held a still of a woman with a warming smile.
"That would be my wife. Beautiful, isn't she?" The Colonel mentioned as he moved the frame closer to Bryce.
Bryce nodded as he picked it up to get a better look. He couldn't put his finger on it, but that woman looked vaguely familiar. Who could it possibly be? He continued to plunge the memories of his mind to find an answer.
"First, I'd like to say welcome to the Earth Federation. My name is Alfred Donner. Now, despite your involvement with the Duchy, we need more men with your talents on our side. Many suggest that I be cautious while around you, but I feel that I can rest safe. Why? You've come to your senses and have seen the horrid truth that is what Zeon stands for. That is proof enough to me that you are trustworthy." The Colonel said as he interlocked his hands together and rested them on the desktop.
Bryce listened attentively while he occasionally glanced down to look at Colonel Donner's photograph of his wife. That woman... Who could she be? I know her from somewhere. I just don't know where... When was it? It had to be recent since I could have sworn I met her yesterday. A multitude of images flashed through his mind. Back to his days of espionage at a Federation base. Many personnel that he had long forgotten their names, some EFF movement plans that he stole, and even the GM with the twin beam spear crossed his mind. The last memory that he recalled though was a woman. The same exact woman that was in the photograph he held in his hands. Bryce's eyes widened as he realized this.
"Welcome to the team! I'm one of the project leaders on the GM Striker. My name is Laurel Donner," she said with a smile, shaking Bryce's hand.
She was the Colonel's wife. There's no doubt about it. Bryce got to know her quite well while he was spying at that Feddie base. It was all thanks to her friendship with Bryce that he was able to successfully spy that base with such ease. It was now known to Bryce that the mobile suit he sought to pilot to protect Arianna with was called the GM Striker. This information would come in handy.
