Bryce put his chin down on the top of his hands as they rest on the rail of the small cargo ferry. His look was cast out towards the waves of the Atlantic. The Federation base in the Azores was not far away. Orders were to stay put in the ocean until further notice. A lot of downtime meant a lot of time to reflect on past events.
Arianna's current state still stood out the most amongst other things. Considering what has happened, he has lost Arianna all over again. What has he been doing this whole time if it just ended up like this? Did he waste his time? Would it have been different if he just waited at Side 6 for her? What if he didn't help Zeon for that little time that he was enlisted with them? All that lingered with the subject of Arianna was a bunch of 'What If' questions.
His father didn't help all that much with his situation as he continued to talk to Bryce about his mother and what they used to do as a family. He spoke about simpler times when Bryce was just a child. Every word felt like a stake being driven deeper into his heart inch by inch. Bryce couldn't keep blaming Zeon for her death. It was just another boulder he was doomed to push up a hill for eternity. The only way to get out of his torment involving his mother would be to face the facts. He killed his own mother. He'd have to tell someone. Colonel Donner wouldn't take the news too well, so the only other person he could talk to would be Arianna. Taking the weight off his shoulders would have to wait until he got Arianna back.
To top off all of this would be his encounter with Sahra back at the hospital in Odessa. Her unexpected visit was yet another thrown stone. Her flirtatious performance revived feelings for Sahra that he thought he long left back at Side 6. It was unfair considering the position he was in with Arianna. Not only that, but she offered the chance for the three of them to be together again. Defect back to Zeon but bring Arianna with him. Could he do that? No, it's impossible at this point. He wouldn't make the same mistake again and kill his father as well. It was wrong to even be thinking about the possibility of returning to Zeon. They'd execute him if he went back. Maybe that was why Sahra offered such an unorthodox idea to him. Bryce gently banged his head on the wet, metal railing as these thoughts blistered his mind.
