Jay burst into the room, short of breath after running down the hallways, anxious to speak, "Did you... Did you hear?" he asked between breaths.
"Woah now, slow down. Catch yourself first," Erin said, wide-eyed and a little surprised by the outburst, "Now, did I hear what?"
Jay took in one last deep breath before plopping his rear down on the bed, "The declaration! Admiral Delaz just gave a speech exposing the Federation's development on the GP02's nuclear capabilities and declared war on the Federation! Shit's just hit the fan!"
"Oh, yeah, that. Yeah I did hear it. This is really serious, huh? I wonder if this is the right time to be throwing around declarations of war this early..." Erin said, shaking her head while resting her chin on one of her open palms.
Jay shrugged, "Well, look at it this way. Despite our lack in numbers, like the Federation, we have exposed to the public what the Federation has been doing behind the people's backs. I mean, there's a treaty in place to make sure no one uses nuclear weapons in combat, right? Well, I'm sure the people aren't too happy that the Federation, who brought about 'peace', is making those very same weapons they outlawed in the first place. It's hypocritical. No body likes a hypocrite. Despite it seeming soon, I think it is needed. This will probably unsettle the EFF and give our own troops a morale boost,"
"Yeah, I see what you mean. It kind of makes sense after you think about it a little. I guess I'm just worried, is all. You and I both saw what happened back at A Baoa Qu, after all," Erin said with a sigh.
Jay scoffed, "Yeah, yeah. You don't have to remind me about it. It was a train wreck! Think of it this way though, the EFF doesn't have the White Devil with them! When was the last time you heard of him since A Baoa Qu? Who knows if he's even still alive! That just means we have a good chance at this. The Federation is full of fresh meat, soldiers that have no idea what real combat is. Not like what we know. They haven't seen anything compared to what we've been through. Just have faith. Faith in your fellow soldiers, and more importantly, faith in me. I'll watch your back, you'll be safe. Promise!"
"I know you will. That's what makes me worry the most, though. The thought of anything happening to you out there makes me... Well, it makes me feel sick. I've lost mama and daddy, I don't want to lose you too," she finished as a sadness washed across her face, turning her head to look away from him.
Jay frowned, hoping that she'd be more cheerful after his little rant, "I'll be careful. I don't want to waste what your father has taught me. Between his guidance and what my parents passed down on to me, I'll be one-hundred percent A-OK! You can count on it! Even a Federation gundam won't have shit on me! My Rick Dom II has my back!" he said, standing from the bed and winking at her.
"You better keep those promises. I mean it too!" she said shaking her head, "I will never forgive you if you leave me alone. You can't do that to me," her eyes stared into his, showing the depth of how serious she was.
Nodding, Jay put his hands on her arms, "It'll be fine. Get some rest for me. We will become very busy soon enough and I want you fully rested. Who knows when we'll get a full night's sleep again, right?" he joked as he left her room, giving a wave goodbye.
Erin sighed, wiping a small tear that formed in the corner of her eye as he left, "Stupid..."
