- Swamps of South Georgia -

Radio: Coming in Phantom 1; Hunter please confirm your position.

Phantom 1 (Hunter): This is Phantom 1, we are currently on route to the combat zone. Make sure the boys know we are on our way.

Radio: Roger Phantom 1!

Above the four machines moving through the swamp an attack helicopter pulled away and headed east where flares and gun-fire lit up the night sky. The sound of explosions and bullets drowned out even the sound of the noisy cicadas, which was rare in this parts.

Phantom 2 (Striker): We need to hurry or else...

Phantom 3 (Firebat): Hush damnit. Not everyone carries a light load. Besides if the 7th Light Calvary Division could be defeated this easily then our presence wouldn't make a difference.

Phantom 4 (Persona): I agree with the Master Sgt. We need to pick up the pace.

Phantom 1 (Hunter): If you guys would quit using the radio to chat we might get there faster. Now hussle!

A collective yes sir was hear and the image of four black colored power armors could be seen moving quickly through the thick underbrush. At the lead was a machine obviously the commander and he was outfitted for a fight. A large anti-ship sword was attached to the back of his shoulder and some extra equipment seemed attached. Behind him was a lightly armed machine hovering above the ground thanks to a high mobility pack attached to his machine. Behind them was the one packing the heavy gear, consisting of a large beam cannon. Finally was another alie equip unit except he had a low recoil bazooka instead of a beam rifle.

Together this unit was apart of the USMP Special Operations Forces squad known as Phantom Pain and they were currently in bound to assist an army division against some rebels that had been making cross border attacks against civilization,, or at least what that meant to these people. Ahead of them was a mess as a Striker division was being pinned down by several unknowns in the forest. Above the battlefield a pair of attack helicopters were in route to assist.

It would be 10 minutes into the fighting after the last transmittion before friendly power armors made it into the conflict zone. And like planned it began with Phantom 3 leveling her high energy beam cannon at the enemy location and then firing once she knew there was no friendly units in the way. The large beam would cut into the forest melting whatever it came into contact with. Then above the choppers fired off a barrage of hellfire missiles into the forest where the explosions seemed to kill any return firepower.

Phantom 3 was about to make a comment until her train of thought was cut off by a missile downed one of the choppers with a direct hit to the cockpit.

Phantom 1 (Hunter): Striker locate the source of that missile for a second attack. I'm going ahead and drawing the fire away.

Striker was about to argue but Hunter was already moving. He had drawn his beam rifle and firing into the forest as a hail of bullets tore through the area. The Dagger L was well built and easily able of dodging even as it used its buckler like shield to absorb any stray fire that came close. A green pulse of beam energy silenced that firing as the beam had cut through a machine-gun emplacement. But as he was coming down the pilot caught a glimpse of metal shine in front of him... His eyes widened as a tank barrel opened up fire on him. The beltch of fire and smoke lite the night environment up as a massive round tore through the air at him.

Quickly Striker pained the tank with his sensory equipment before hitting the verniers and pulling to the side as the round sliced by him causing a large explosion in the swamp behind him. "High explosive armor piercing rounds..." But he wouldn't have to worry as his painting of the target had signaled to Phantom 3 of the enemy location. She easily brought her beam cannon around and unleashed a melting burst into the tank armor igniting the armor storage and blowing the vehicle apart.

Phantom 3 (Firebat): PAs trump tanks anyday.

Phantom 1 (Hunter): Don't get cocky those things are packing anti-PA rounds.

She scoffed and turned to unleashing her heavy vulcan into the forest with her aim being on sources of fire. But by showing her position a missile was launched from the forest at her...

Automatic fire came from the right as Seltak reloaded the recoilless rifle in his hands. Turning his head in that direction, he signaled Pete to keep his eyes open as he waited for word from Little Brother, who was off trying to find how far back the enemy lines went. The rest of his platoon were in a trench about ten meters apart, picking off mobile weapons that tried to come across their lines. So far not too many had tried, and that might have something to do with the fact the enemy didn't seem to know how many power armor's there were in this district. It wouldn't be much longer until they decided to attack full force.

"Big brother, I've reached the peek. Enemy forces are incoming, looks like about twenty, twenty-five power armors moving your way."

"You heard him First Platoon, get ready. Pick your targets and stay in your zone, we don't want to hit the same targets. Pete, pop smoke. As soon as they appear through the smoke, let them have it, semiautomatic only. We need to save our ammo."

Pete primed a grenade and threw it into the forest, the grenade releasing it's smoke after a second on the ground. The grenade was made to produce massive amounts of smoke in all directions. Hopefully, it would make the enemy think twice before rushing at their position, giving them the time they needed to survive this rush.

"They're entering the smoke. Ten seconds to contact."

The seconds passed slowly, but it was a rush when the first power armor pushed through the black smoke. Seltak pulled the trigger three times after sighting into the first target coming into his zone. The round impacted the armor's chest plates, knocking it onto it's ass, three large dents in the armor. Similar shots rang out from his left and right. Seltak quickly fired at another target that had just appeared. After this one went down, his buddies decided to try another tactic. Shots came from the smoke before the enemy exited, making first platoon cover for a moment, which was enough time for three or four to run through the smoke and take cover.

Seltak raised his head over the sand berm and fired a shot into the face of the soldier that dared look from behind a tree. More soldiers appeared through the smoke, and as they did, the smoke started to dissipate, allowing the others to get a good look at the recon marines. Shots rang out from behind the platoon, and as Seltak glanced back for a moment, he knew it was Littlefield providing fire from his hidden position. A grenade went off, and a group of power armors fell. After a few more moment, they had finished off the wave. Checking his ammo, Seltak requested a status report from each member.

An explosion from the edge of the forest caught Seltak's attention. There was a pause, then Littlefiled came over the radio.

"Someone just took out a tank that was patrolling the forest, one of ours..."

"First Platoon, fall back and rendezvous with the rest of the battalion. HQ out."

Seltak gritted his teeth and ordered his men to fall back, each man falling back one after another, stopping and going to make sure they wouldn't get shot in the back.

A burst of CIWS fire tore into the missile from her right as Persona shook his head with distaste.

Persona: Keep your eyes on the battlefield... I might not be able to save you next time.

Firebat: Brat...

As those two continued to attack the enemy Hunter and his Sword Striker equip Dagger had found the target they were looking for, the enemy PA. A Zaku II type power armor from the old days, that thing was ancient. But that wouldn't stop the rebel soldier from firing his large machine-gun at Hunter. Nimbly the more advance military suit dived to the side firing its beam carbine at the target knowing that even a glancing blow could kill the enemy pilot but this guy wasn't going down that easily.

Jump-jetting to the side the beam would cut through a tree instead of its target. Once in the air though the Zaku pilot did something that was either brave as hell or dumb as a rock. It would draw its heat hawk and come down on Hunter determined to cleave the Dagger pilot in half. Too bad for him but a heat hawk didn't stand a chance against the weapon he had brought to the battlefield.

"Idiot..." The beam rifle would drop to the ground as the black Dagger reached to its back and grasped the massive two handed sword. The beam edge then ignited with a hum as Hunter swung over connecting with the heat hawk as it came down intercepting its attack path. With a bunch of sparks flying through the air the out dated enemy was was easily sliced through as the two handed beam weapon continued through the weapon and into the shoulder of the Zaku not just tearing but melting through the enemy body with an effortless cut.

Hunter had cleaved his target in two...

"BASTARD!" Screamed another Zaku II rushing from the forest wielding a bazooka. But before it could aim and fire at the now gunless Dagger its sensors went off as a high heat source approached. Turning to try and figure out what was going on a large green beam immolated the unit in one shot. In the distant Firebat gave a thumbs up as smoke poured from the barrel of her high energy beam cannon.

Hunter was about to return the action when his sensors picked up two more power armors heading for them. His instincts said more Zakus and he would be proven right as a bazooka round emerged from the forest making the Dagger take shelter behind a ruined gun emplacement. An explosion tore through the area as a nearby truck was hit blowing the vehicle into scorched parts.

Hunter: We have two targets in the forest. Coordinates...

Another explosion hit the area near him sending earth and rock spraying all over the place.

Above the tree line Striker and his Alie pack jetted by firing its beam rifle into the forest near the source of the shelling. A series of explosions could be heard as Firebat added with two shots from her gunlaunchers and Persona unleashed his recoilless rifle as well. The team was literally tearing the old mangrove forest apart to kill the targets...

Then the firing ended... and all that remained were pieces of the last two Zakus and blood from their pilots. This was a mission accomplished...

Littlefield made his way down the mountain, carefully watching for enemy emplacements that had snuck their way into the perimeter. He was good, but even he missed things, especially when it came to watching his platoon and making sure they didn't have anyone on their six that they didn't know about. Coming to the bottom of the smallish mountain, Littlefield sat down on the rocky surface with his rifle in his lap. He took a deep breath and waited for the rest of his team to show up.

Littlefield was starting to drift asleep when he heard the rustling of trees nearby, bringing Littlefield out of his minor slip up. Lifting his rifle, he got into a prone position and made sure his power levels were low enough not to be too detectable. Flipping off the safe, he waited for the source of the sound with a heavy beating heart. It was another thirty seconds and a few more moving trees before the rest of first platoon stepped through the trees, seeing Littlefield instantly. Smiling, the rookie stood up and slung his rifle around his frame.

"Bout time you guys showed up, I was about to leave you guys behind to find your own way home." The biggest of the Zakus walked up to Littlefield and put it's hand on his shoulder.

"Little brother, if you ever got the guts to leave us behind, I would break you in half." Laughing, Littlefield shook Pete's hand off and together the three made their way back to HQ.

***

It took only half an hour before they reached the USMP's base of operations, and after entering the gate, they made their way to the command operation's center to report back in. Seltak told his men to make their way back to the barracks to shower, change, and eat. After departing, Seltak entered the COC and removed his helmet. A lieutenant colonel looked at him from a map and stood up straight, walking over to the recon marine.

"Sir, Lieutenant Amani reports mission success, all enemies in sector seven eight neutralized." Seltak didn't salute since they were in a battlefield environment. Even though they were inside, saluting allowed the enemy to see who was an officer, and who wasn't.

"Good work Amani. We're expecting the Second Special Mechanical Operations Forces back any minute now, who you will assist in their next operation. Short and simple, we've spotted two gundam power armors moving our way with a few friends of their own. I'll get to the rest as soon as the SMOF gets back."

Seltak nodded and allowed the colonel to get back to his work. Walking to a map on the wall, he saw that the USMP forces were pushing the enemy back, albeit slowly. The gundams were shown in a blinking red, while the mass produced power armors were just red. Tanks and heavy armaments were a bright red that didn't blink, but the majority of the map was mass produced. Seltak saw that the area he had previously held was now being covered by regulars. Though he hated being used for such simple tasks like holding the lines against untrained rebels, he knew it's necessity.

And come back they did. Four Dagger Ls made their way into the base of operations in this dirty little corner of the continent with the leader carrying a Zaku II head in its grasp.

"Lt. Kyle Ryder of the 2nd SMOF checking in. We managed to take down a battle tank the rebels had acquired including a power armor squadron." Tossing the gruesome helmet across the lot it sat upright in front of the communications tent.

"Well we have another operation in the works. You will be linking up with another Power Armor squadron for this one and we expect you guys to play nice with them."

Kyle was about to say something but the operations commander Lt. General Dan Martinez wouldn't have any of it. "You guys are out anti-gundam squadron so you'll be needed for taking down these targets. I swear if you don't cooperate with the other team we will have you kicked out of this field of operations and let you report to Washington itself."

"That will be unneeded Sir. We are not as bad as our reputation makes us seem."

The Lt. General nodded reluctantly and sent the SO squadron away while the operation was being finalized. Kyle decided it was time to meet this other team and see if they were worthy of working with his group.

Seltak had just turned off the water when he heard the rest of his platoon leave the locker rooms. Stepping out of the shower, he dried himself off quickly and began to change into his BDUs. Reaching into his locker, he pulled his sappy plate carrier and pulled it on. The newest models would stop a .50 cal round from penetrating, but would knock you on your ass and probably break a few ribs in the process. He'd been shot one too many times not to walk around without it. The carrier was different from a regular flak jacket in that it had only two plates, one for the front and one for the back. This gave the wearer more maneuverability than the bulkier version that held four plates.

Seltak grabbed his .45 pistol, it's holster, and strapped both to his right thigh. Seltak pulled the pistol out, checked the magazine, then holstered it again. He also placed two full magazines into the magazine holder on his carrier. After this was completed, he pulled his carbine from it's rack. He pulled the bolt back, locked it in place, checked for proper lubrication, then slapped the bolt back into place. Grabbing three magazines, he slapped one into the magazine well, then placed the other two into the magazine holder on his carrier.

After being properly fitted to his standards, he walked out of the barracks and towards the mess. He was hungry, and he needed to get food before going out again. The only reason he hadn't eaten before showering was he didn't eat much as it was, so if his meal was cut short, it wouldn't be that bad. Sitting down at the table, he noticed a few soldiers he'd met before on the battlefield, and one particular that he'd saved from an ambush. Shaking his head, he pulled out his PDA and started reading up the spec ops team he was to work with on this next operation. Hopefully the rest of his team would be able to work with others. If not, the gundams would be the least of their problems.

Sitting down at the same table was Phantom Pain team leader Kyle Ryder. He had gotten out of his Dagger power armor and was dressed in a USMP special operations uniform which was black instead of the standard color. A squad patch was over his shoulder which depicted a Grim Reaper with a pair of scythes crossed.

"No need to look my team up Seltak, cause you can ask me any question you like."

The silver haired young man asked. Unlike Seltak Kyle was young even by special operation standards and probably more inexperienced in terms of combat operations. But he wasn't a newbie... Kyle had excelled as part of the USMP Hunter Division and had experience in fighting Gundams. He even tried to fight like one using the Sword Striker.

"Names Lt. Kyle Ryder and I'm the team leader for Phantom Pain. I've heard good things about you and your recon team." He smiled which seemed odd considering the fact he had brought a Zaku II head back with him like a trophy of old times. The brutally efficient leader of a squad known for its gruesome tactics and lack of care for the lives of their enemy. In this setting it would appear as a normal everyday young adult...

"Names Lt. Kyle Ryder and I'm the team leader for Phantom Pain. I've heard good things about you and your recon team." Seltak laughed a bit before putting his PDA down on the table and looking at the kid across the table. Looked just like the photo he had just been looking at.

"If you've heard good things about me, you must not have had access to everything." He shook his head and pushed his tray back, then turned towards the lieutenant fully. "I was about to read your report on today's operation, but from what I've heard, you do exceptionally well on the front lines."

Seltak was about to ask him about the rest of Phantom Pain when his radio began broadcasting.

"Lt. Amani, report to the COC at once." Seltak rogered up into his radio then stood, knowing the command would coon call for Ryder as well.

"Guess we better head back to command before the colonel pops a vein." He waited for the lieutenant to stand so they could walk to the command tent together. It would be good for appearances if their men saw them together.

"Neah I'm sure you guys are worth something if command is sending you after Gundams. Trust me not all squads get a chance at that." He replied finishing his peanut butter sandwich he had. Nothing better than pure carbs and protein before a big battle and after that encounter earlier he would need it. After all it was straining on the body and mind to fight in a power armor.

"Let him pop a vain. I'm sure there are better field officers out there anyways." He laughed and then stopped and went dead silent. "Tell him I said that and I'll make sure those Gundams getcha ya..." Then he grinned again. "I'm just messing with you." Kyle finished standing up and patting Seltak on the back. "Kids these days and there jokes." He was joking on himself at that point because Seltek was much older than him and apart of a different generation.

"Lets get going and show those trouble makers that how we run things."

"My men have yet to let me down, and I've been on several ops with them, though we haven't been against a gundam yet, so it will be interesting to see how good we really are, but I don't see too many problems arising." As far as the colonel went, he agreed completely with the young man.

"Better at tactics? Not many. Leader of men? That is something would need to be addressed, at a later time of course." He smiled at the kid's jokes.

"Well if your team wants to cower behind my team's backs while we take down the gundams, don't blame me for dropping dimes on you about the colonel." He smiled at his own joke, albeit a cheep nip at his team's performance, it was completely harmless, at least to Seltak.

Walking into the COC, the colonel looked up from the map against the wall and greeted both lieutenants, ushering both to the map he was looking at.

"As I stated earlier, two gundams are moving towards our FOB (Forward Operations Base), at great speeds. Though we have the resources to stop both, we do not have the men to take them on in time. Black Company and the Phantom Pains are to intercept the gundams and their mass produced escorts. You will be dropped in by helicopter, and will be escorted by two squads of power armors for assistance." He turned back to the map and pointed to an open area surrounded by thick forest. "You will be dropped here, six clicks away from the gundams' predicted positions." The colonel turned towards the two officers and crossed his arms. "Any questions?"

Seltak shook his head. "I just hope our beam weapons are done being repaired. Though the recoilless rifles are nice, beam rifles would be a wiser choice to take on gundams."
