Signing away her rights as a person, she was run through the program rigorously, and repeatedly. The conditioning took far more time and funding to take hold then anticipated, and she was 'held for observation' against her will for nearly two years until a mercenary squad led by Nicole Fremont raided the facility on an agenda that was not made clear to Kristal at that time. On escaping, she went into hiding, suffering massive headaches and delusions, drifting through another full year with little awareness of what was really going on. When she regained a measure of clarity, she was in a small medical tent in a ranger camp on a steady supply of drugs to manage her burgeoning talents, while they worked her through a recovery phase. Feeling indebted to them, and requiring regular treatments binding her to the faction further, she eventually joined in a soldiering capacity. She is yet unsure of her abilities, but has no love of the organization that warped her mind... though it's been such a long and difficult journey for her, she can't truly recall it's name.
