"Mr. Knight, you have the bridge. I'll be in my quarters," James stated.
Soon enough, the excitement of commanding a ship in battle would overwhelmed with the mountain of paperwork that awaited him at S6-1001. Letters of condolence to the families of the lost pilots, working out the last details of the escort contract, filing for ownership of the captured cruiser...it would probably take him as long to get through it all as it would for the two ships to be repaired. It would be worth it in the end, however. Adding a Musai's worth of firepower to his task force would make a world of difference if the Tiamat pirate group held a grudge. James began thinking of ways to use the Musai to his advantage when the door to his quarters opened.
"Thought you could use something to calm your nerves, captain."
The woman at his door was one of the two other people aboard the ship who knew their true mission. Most members of the crew had signed up thinking they were just another "private security firm" that happened to get a good deal on a carrier, but James, Knight, and this woman, Selena Wirtz, now pilot of the ship's captured Galbaldy Alpha, had all been soldiers in Side 6's militia. Officially, they had been discharged for medical reasons, but unofficially - very unofficially - they had been tasked with creating a unit that could aggressively deal with threats to Riah without shifting the country's neutral stance.
"Thank you, Selena," James said, accepting a cup of coffee. "You and the others did well out there today."
"Ugh..." she grunted, getting herself a cup. "I didn't. I got pushed aside like I was between a fat man and his cake."
"Not a bad description of a Rick Dom," James chuckled. "The guy in the Zaku we captured seemed to indicate that guy was a Tiamat VIP though, so even surviving against him is something to be proud of."
"That'll do...for now," she sighed. "I want a rematch though."
"I have no doubt we'll run into that lot again," James said reassuringly. "If we keep agreeing to escort loads of MS parts, that is."
"Then I'll get back to the hangar and bother the mechanics about reattaching my suit's arm then," Selena accepted with a nod.
"I need to get started on some paperwork too," James sighed, hanging his head. "Thanks for the coffee."
