- Gihren Zabi and most of the Zabi family are assasinated. A new duke of Zeon is named, Janus Venge. He was uninvolved in the assasination atempt.
- The conspirators for the assination are discovered and executed.
- Duke Venge discloses the fact that the conspirators where Federation diplomats. Accuses the Earth Federation of trying to install their own government in Side 3. (Whether it was true or not is unknown. Conspirators were not actually questioned. Not public knowledge.)

- War between the Earth Federation and the Duchy of Zeon begins.
- Zeon invades Side 4 and destroys all EF forces there and takes control of the colony cluster.
- Riah Republic declares its neutrality in the war. Both sides accept neutrality.
- The Zeon military makes a push towards Earth and is able to push a hole through the EF's blockade. Zeon establishes its own battle group in Earth orbit and then gains a foot hold on Earth.
- The Earth Fedration uses its mobile suits for the first time in a counter-attack against Zeon forces in orbit of Earth. Both sides take heavy loses and Zeon is surprised by the advanced nature of the EF mobile suits.
- Zeon Military forces begin to experiment with new mobile suits designs to keep up with EF advancements.
