This is designed to help players understand Newtypes and how they relate in the Common Era.

Newtypes in the Common Era

Although governments have overwhelming proof of the existence of Newtypes a majority of the population is kept unaware as to what exactly a Newtype is or how it is made. Information regarding Newtypes is especially guarded in the Colonies in order to keep a better level of control over the population. All in all about 60% of the total human population has no idea what a Newtype is, 20% has heard the phrase Newtype used loosely but generally does not know what it means or view Newtypes with disdain, 10% know what Newtypes really are and hate them, 5% know what Newtypes are and do not care, and the remaining 5% are Newtypes.

Of those that know what Newtypes really are, 90% of them work for a government, the military, or a corporation which works for the Military. All in all, most people do not know what Newtypes are or what they are capable of. That is to say, the average soldier would not be aware that Newtypes have psychic abilities. Most rumors that have circulated throughout all the various Armies is that Newtypes are usually extremely skilled pilots.

Governments, however, are generally not satisfied with allowing evolution to take it's natural turn and often create special facilities with the express purposes of creating false Newtypes or creating people which possessed abilities similar to Newtypes. These installations and programs are considered utmost secrets within every government and 98% of their populations are unaware of such programs. Attention was diverted away from alleged Newtypes with the advent of Coordinators and attempts to create fabrications of them.

In the past years, the number of Newtypes have been steadily increasing. While only 1% of the population were confirmed Newtypes several years ago, that number is up to roughly 5%. Newtypes are broken down into 5 classifications below.

Newtype Level 1
Level 1 is the most common of Newtype phenomena and many do not advance beyond this stage. Newtypes at Level 1 often feel strange sensations and can sometimes receive messages from powerful Newtypes but they are not capable of broadcasting their own messages and alot of the time they do not know what to do about these strange sensations. Because of this, alot of people go their entire lives without even suspecting they were a Newtype and many more who are simply lucky claim to be a Newtype. Level 1 cannot control remote weapons.

Newtype Level 2
Considered by some of the more Puritan types as the actual beginning of a Newtype, at Level 2 the Newtype is capable of receiving messages from other Newtypes and sensing other Newtypes. On the higher end of the Level 2 spectrum, some Newtypes can communicate back briefly with others albeit not over great distances. At Level 2 Newtypes are more intuitive and some times receive 'flashes' when in Danger. All in all Newtypes are aware of these strange sensations and often use them to their advantage while piloting. Level 2 onwards can control Remote Weapons.

Newtype Level 3
Level 3 is the common peak for most Newtypes. At Level 3 they are capable of sensing other Newtypes even over greater distances and communicating with them telepathically. 'Flashes' are far more common in combat situations allowing the Newtype to make the best of their abilities in combat.

Newtype Level 4
Few make it to being considered Newtype Level 4, at this level Newtypes are deeply empathic and capable of communicating with one another and sensing one another over extreme distances. Such Newtypes are usually feared by the government resulting in imprisonment, experimentation, or outright murder of the Newtype. Due to their heightened empathic state, Newtypes at this level sometimes struggle with fighting because of their ability to feel the deaths of their enemies.

Newtype Level 5
In the history of Newtypes, only one Level 5 has existed. All kinds of freaky-deaky things can manifest at Level 5. The only documented Level 5 Newtype, for instance, had the power to heal . If you reach this stage in the RPG...Bravo.
