Combat

Combat is Gundam Eternity’s premiere action. Before anything else, this RPG is a story about pilots and the battles they fight. Your legend begins behind a beam saber.

Combat comes in five varieties: blackouts, ambushes, duels, events and raids.

Blackout
A quick and decisive blow against one target where the aggressor never reveals his or her identity. Maximum harm is dealt in as little time a possible. Minimal risk of damage is involved.

Ambush
A surprise attack against an enemy. The aggressor is given first strike advantage, but the defender can often gain the upper hand if he’s lucky or better skilled. Moderate risk of damage is involved.

Duel
No greater display of a pilot’s true skill exists. Duels pit players in a fair clash, and they battle until only one remains standing. Damage ranges from moderate to severe, and all participants involved must submit an email to participate.

Event
Any attack on an installation or ship is posted on the Events page. Risks depend upon circumstances of the battle, but successfully wiping out an enemy installation or ship always nets 100.000.c to every player involved. All attackers must submit an email to participate, and should indicate whether they wish to destroy or capture their target.

Raid
An event available only to Drake’s Legacy members. Raiding parties can launch against an enemy’s property with aim to wipe out its defensive infrastructure, and if possible, take out the target as well. Doing so will net credits equivalent to half the value of everything destroyed (divided amongst attackers). All attackers must submit an email to participate.

Remember, you can only blackout, ambush, or duel someone at your location. Also, you cannot participate in combat with a damaged mobile suit. Do not submit strategies for a battle. Pilots' actions will be fairly decided by a writer, based upon VP.

Training

While at an installation or aboard a ship, players may choose to train in their mobile weapon – rather than engage in risky duels – so long as their mobile suit is not repairing. 2 VP per day will be awarded, without risk of damage.

Two pilots can also spar together. Sparring works like training, but offers an additional 1 VP per day. Partners can further be increased to no more than four total participants, with every new member granting an additional 1 VP. All pilots wishing to spar must email to participate in the action.

Travel

All the solar system is open for your travels. Skip across known space, striking at the heart of your enemy’s security, setting up vast empires, or simply running errands all willy-nilly. Whatever influences guide your journeys, use the chart below to measure distances between worlds and colony clusters.

     Sol to…

      Mercury: 2 Days
      Venus: 4 Days
      Earth: 6 Days
      L1: 6 Days
      L2: 6 Days
      L3: 6 Days
      L4: 6 Days
      L5: 6 Days
      Luna: 6 Days
      Mars: 8 Days
      Asteroid Belt: 10 Days
      Jupiter: 12 Days
      Saturn: 14 Days
      Uranus: 16 Days
      Neptune: 18 Days
      Kuiper Belt: 20 Days

Notice that distance in Gundam Eternity is measured by travel time, rather than miles or kilometers. To calculate how long it takes to get from point-A to point-B, subtract distances from Sol. For example, moving from Jupiter to Mars takes 12 – 8 = 4 Days. The only time this doesn’t apply is when going from two places equidistant to the sun. In that case, the travel time is always 1 Day.

When attacking installations or ships, they are considered 1 Day away from their listed location. So if you’re on Mars and wish to attack a base on Mars, you’d need to spend one day traveling to its position. If going from Jupiter to assault a base on Mars, you’d add an extra day to your earlier equation: 12 – 8 + 1 = 5 Days. If you own the installation or ship, this day of travel is negated.

Players are considered to have reached their destination only when a roster entry reads, “Location: Destination.”

Purchase

Eternity’s universal form of currency is the credit. Good wherever you shop, credits can be used to purchase anything from defensive mobile suits, to gigantic space fortresses, to repairs and instant-travel for rogues. Players may buy as many items as they wish in any given update, but should include an accurate total cost in their email.

All items will be deployed at your current location; you cannot buy mobile suits for a base from halfway across the solar system. Remember to name your installations and ships.

Roleplaying

Our forums are the medium through which characters are fully developed. Disputes that resolve themselves in combat find meaning on the Roleplaying Board, and pilots become more than cliché soldiers struggling without cause. Roleplaying is an integral part of playing Gundam Eternity, and affords the dedicated member both power and prestige in the RPG.

No one can tell you where to begin. Perhaps start by writing a Profile; explain who your pilot is, and why he or she fights. Read other peoples’ works, and don’t hesitate to ask for help. There’s no such thing as not good enough when it comes to writing.

Very little is taboo when roleplaying, but please obey these few fundamental rules.

     1. Don’t meta-game. Keep your abilities realistic.
     2. Get another member's permission before featuring them in a post.
     3. Feedback replies are allowed out-of-character, but only if requested.
     4. Do not spam the Roleplaying Board.

Besides just developing a personality and story, why else should you roleplay? Every Sunday rewards will be issued for Best Roleplayer and Best Post – giving 15 and 10 VP, respectively. This will be decided by a committee of peers, who can also grant bonuses of 5 VP (or more) for notable efforts.
