Technical and Historical Notes |
The Daughtress series was the standard general combat mobile suit of the Old Earth Federation in the times before the Corporate Wars and the attack of the Devil Gundam, and was easily one of the most widely produced mobile suits of the pre-Interregnum period. For assault purposes, a special Daughtress variant with improved armor and excellent overland speed was designed, intended to be used for fast attacks, raiding, and other operations requiring quick maneuvering. The Daughtress High Mobility Type, nicknamed the "Fire Wallaby" by Old Earth Federation commandos, was one of the more uncommon Daughtress types left after the collapse of the Federation, and was highly sought after during the Interregnum.
After the emergence of the Atlantic Federation, a loose confederacy of mostly right-wing states that resisted absorbtion by the Earth Sphere Alliance, the "Fire Wallaby" (redesignated AF-001HM) was eagerly returned to service along with the older standard model Daughtress, and almost all units employed by the Atlantic Federation were new production units. Like the standard Daughtress, a large number of "Fire Wallabies" survived the collapse of the Atlantic Federation in UC 221, and can still be encountered on the battlefield today, a proof-in-reality of the design's effectiveness and longevity.
The "Fire Wallaby"'s most immediately distinguishing features are its reinforced body and wide, streamlined legs housing a quartet of jet engines. Two more are mounted in the mobile suit's flaring skirt armor, allowing it to hover across relatively flat ground at very high speeds, often referred to as "skating" due to its side-to-side motion. Because it uses the same generator as the standard Daughtress, the "Fire Wallaby" cannot power a beam rifle. However, it packs a serious whallop in the form of a high-output flamethrower that can slag even very durable mobile suits with more than brief exposure. The flamethrower uses an otherwise inert fuel carried in a large backpack-mounted tank, which is cycled through the reactor where it spontaneously combusts, creating an extremely potent yet safe weapon. The "Fire Wallaby" can otherwise equip standard Daughtress handheld weapons, with beam sabers mounted in its hips. A variant for commanders, known as the "Wise Wallaby", features a single visor scanner and an elongated horn with a large camera across its head.
