Technical and Historical Notes

As the major world powers waned in the late 210s, private businesses and other regional firms began to step into the political vacuum, often to continue the exploitation of natural resources. One such industrial conglomerate, the Egypt-based Bar-Kemal Limited, added mobile suits to its manufacturing retinue at this time. The WMS-03 Maganac series formed the base of this new privately-constructed mobile suit line.

To offer further capability to its mobile suit family, Bar-Kemal produced a dedicated melee version in the form of the Assault Maganac. Built off the body of the upgraded Reinfoced Maganac, the Assault version is immediately recognizable for the giant claw that replaces its left arm and hand. The claw itself is constructed of gundarium alloy, making it both durable and fully capable of crushing a lightly-armored enemy. Against a better protected foe, it is used as a potent bludgeoning weapon, with the most typical tactic being to pummel the opponent to pieces with rapid slapping motions. In addition to its obvious offensive faculties, the assault claw can also be used as a makeshift shield with reasonable effectiveness. Because the assault claw has minimal manual dexterity, the Assault Maganac cannot equip most normal ranged weapons. A unique cable-powered beam pistol is provided to allow it to attack an enemy before closing to melee combat range, and a pair of vulcan guns are installed in the mobile suit's head to provide additional short-range firepower. The Maganac's standard heat tomahawk is retained and can be stored on the outside of the assault claw, allowing for an additional weapon to be used in hand-to-hand engagements.

While the Assault Maganac is significantly less common than other Maganac variants in the use of Bar-Kemal's security forces, it is perhaps overly-popular with some of its "other clients" including various renegade groups operating in the African theater. The noted penchant for sudden and short-distance ambushes, often with Maganacs buried in the sand, makes the Assault version a particularly effective choice.
