Technical and Historical Notes

After PLANT began developing mobile suits capable of natively using beam weaponry, the Space Revolutionary Army quickly responded to bridge the gap and prevent the Coordinator movement from reaching too far ahead of them. In spite of the unqualified success of the Septem, the colonies ended up returning to the Jenice's frame and performing a total overhaul of internal and external components, resulting in the excellent RMS-014 Octave.

Though aimilar to the Jenice in shape, the Octave's high performance is indicated by the large number of vernier engines and attitude control motors all over its body. Its thruster-laden backpack sprouts a trio of massive boost binders, allowing it to direct thrust in almost any direction and endows the Octave with excellent mobility. Further, the binders' thrust motors can be replaced with high efficiency jet engines, allowing the Octave to fly with great speed and agility in atmosphere.

The Octave is backwards-compatible with most of the Jenice's handheld weapons, but its most notable weapon is an extremely powerful beam rifle capable of decommissioning almost any mobile suit it scores a direct hit on. It is also quite accurate over range, though it suffers from a small charge capacity due to its rushed development. A pair of beam sabers are provided for hand-to-hand combat, and two potent Gatling cannons are mounted in the mobile suit's torso to give it a serious edge in close-quarters fighting.

Giving its all-around good performance, the Octave was one of the few mobile suits that was actually evacuated from Earth when the Army called off all terrestrial operations in UC 218. As a result, it is much less commonly encountered in the hands of rogue operators than earlier Army units. Some were decommissioned after the Army was demobilized, but the Octave remains in service with the Cloud Defense Service - albiet mostly in a reserve capacity - to this day. Those that have fallen into the hands of various unsavory owners are highly prized for their excellent combination of mobility and firepower.
