Technical and Historical Notes

In preparation for the invasion of Earth, the Space Revolutionary Army designed a number of specialized mobile suits for combat in different environments. Developed as a high mobility follow-on to the Jenice, the portly RMS-009 Septem was an ideal candidate for use as part of terrestrial operations.

In spite of its very large, heavily armored body, the Septem possesses excellent speed and mobility due to numerous thrusters and vernier engines in its overly large, bell-shaped legs. Because of its increased weight, it is also very stable when firing heavy weapons. With the voluminous space available in the Septem's legs and lower body, models sent to Earth had their thrusters removed in favor of a pair of thermonuclear jet engines that allow them to hover just above the ground and "skate" about at very high speed, and in any direction of the pilot's choosing, making it an extremely effective assault unit.

The Septem shares most of the Jenice's weapons, including its standard 100mm machine gun and potent giant bazooka. Unlike the older Jenice, however, the Septem's heavy weight allows it to handle the recoil of the giant gun much more effectively, and it is commonly used as the mobile suit's standard weapon. Two mega machine cannons, capable of eating through even Gundarium armor at close range, are mounted in the Septem's torso, and it is provided with a heavy-bladed heat sword for melee combat, which the nimble-handling Septem is more than excellent in.

When the Space Revolutionary Army terminated its terrestrial combat operations in UC 218, many mobile weapons were simply abandoned in place, including a significant number of Septem Ground Types. Even though the mobile suits could be refitted for space combat, retrieving them was deemed an inefficient use of resources. The standard configuration Septems were retained until after the end of the Space War when they were phased out in favor of greater numbers of newer mobile suits in the smaller peacetime military. Like the Jenice, a significant number of Septems have turned up in the hands of renegade forces and militias in the Earth sphere.
