Cera -1000 to 0: Known only as the Elder Age. Little can be conclusively stated about these times. Rumor has it that the gods walked the earth and humanity lived in peace with demons. Goldwin the Wright is said to have composed a few poems around -7 Cera (resulting in his subsequent title), but none have survived. Cera 0: Therul's Descent. An event mostly lost to history, few records from the period remain. Those that do point to a horrible catastrophe ignited by a single Arcanist, a world-destroying event somehow halted by the actions of a few heroes. It is said that the land itself was ripped apart by the cataclysmic powers unleashed. Cera 1 to 23: Post Descent years. The Age of Heroes, this period in history was dominated by the likes of Goldwin the Wright, Janelle Divine-Heart, and the Darkling Tinct. Most of the records from this age are from the personal journals and works of Goldwin, who is known as the Warrior-Poet of the Elder Age. The world mostly focused on rebuilding from the Descent and attempting to put Onara back together. Cera 24 to 101: The Heroes of the Descent put together a treaty that would last until Cera 102, agreed upon by all the wandering tribes of humans and demihumans. Their mutual respect for the Heroes allowed them to put aside all trivial disputes and scorn organized government. Cera 102: The tenuous peace between the native peoples of Onara is broken as Therul makes his first bid for power since the Descent. The god of evil looses his hawkman avatar, Caanon, upon the unprepared world. Caanon engages in a bloody war of conquest against the tribes of Onara, decimating the Aeriar and demihuman populations in particular. Eventually his mad rampage is put down by one of Vjolnire's servants in the late winter months of Cera 102. The power and fury ignited during this battle had not been seen since the Descent, nearly a century before, and the people of Onara simply are unable to deal with it. Cera 103 to 230: The informal treaty is forgotten as bloodshed takes place all over Onara. While a few tribes (the Gorun, especially) still hold it as sacred, most of the other races and tribes fall to the chaos. The powerful claim land for themselves, creating a series of shifting territories all over Onara. Out of this madness rises the Republic of Volinus, the first of the three modern governments to take power in Cera 230. The city-states of the region unite in mutual defense and trade, forming a council to take care of problems between them. Peace comes to the territories involved, yet without all is still turmoil. Cera 300 to 310: The rise of the Court of a Thousand Thousands. From somewhere to the north of Volinus, an empire emerges and sweeps all before it like a hurricane. Those tribes that wish to join peacefully are allowed to, and those that resist are forcibly absorbed. In ten short years the Court controls all of the land from the Western Sea to the eastern wastes. Volinus is one of the peaceful members, allowed to keep its autonomy and independence. The capital of the region is established in Luun, and the city becomes a shining beacon to all. Cera 311 to 561: The Golden Age of Onara. The Court of a Thousand Thousands remains in stable control of the world for several hundred years. Science is encouraged and many advancements in magik and technology develop. Living conditions steadily improve for citizens everywhere. At the peak of its power, the Court of a Thousand Thousands existed in peaceful prosperity, with no insurrections nor rebellions to temper the joy. Still, little is known or recorded about the court from which the empire took its name, especially in the southern regions where Volinus existed. Cera 398: A religion starts to develop east of the Volinus region that claims alliegance to a higher power than Vjolnire. The Court takes no action, though many in the region are appalled. Cera 561: For reasons unknown to the inhabitants of the Volinus region, the Court of a Thousand Thousands suddenly withdraws its troops from its territories. Rumors range from a possible rebellion to corruption in the heart of the empire, but nothing is known for sure. Chaos erupts all around the Court as old disputes flare into the sun. Only Volinus itself remains intact by the virtue of independence: having been allowed to train and arm its own guards, the free men of Onara are well equipped to deal with the resulting anarchy of abandonment. Luun itself gets hit the worst, as the former capital of the region falls to warlord after warlord. Cera 564 to 568: The religious tribes to the east of Volinus, now having a vast majority in the area, seize control of the major cities along the coast. Their chief priest, the Pope, is declared the Magnat-Pope of a new, holy Theocracy. The fanatics quickly organize and subdue remaining rebellions in their area. Cera 587 to 590: A warlord calling himself the Imperator comes to power in Luun after a bloody coup. His organization and massive amount of followers quickly allow him to take control of the surrounding cities. By the end of Cera 590 he controls territory extending to the borders of both Volinus and the newly formed Theocracy. The Pax Imperica, as he calls his empire, claims to be the rightful heir to the Court of a Thousand Thousands and all that that entails. Volinus quickly grows suspicious of this upstart government, concerned that being the heir to the Court might entail domination of the region. Cera 591 to 680: The region exists in fragile peace for nearly a century before war once again breaks out. Cera 680: Force Arcana starts. Late Winter, 680: The Pax Imperica sends troops into both the Felrun Range and the Yamere Plains to assault Volinus borders. Pax armies break through the defenses of the Plains and march on the river. Early Spring, 681: Volinus troops rally at the Yamere River, and push back the Pax advance. However, the Republic trades a victory for a defeat as the Komitjadii destroy the Blade Knights' defenses in the Felrun Range. The Pax army camps along the road to Yikiin, forced to wait for seige weaponry from Luun. Theocracy and Pax armies meet in the Kallacia Desert, but both are destroyed by an "act of God:" an ancient Earth Dragon erupts from the sand and devours both armies. A secondary Theocracy army marches into Tellen and burns it to the ground. Rumors abound that the Pax themselves set the city alight, but the Imperator steadily denies all such as lies.
Late Spring, 681: The war between the Pax Imperica and Volinus grinds to a standstill, halted at the great walled city of Yikiin. The Pax army remains camped in the foothills of the Felrun Range, their meager seige equipment not enough to breach the mighty defenses of Yikiin. They await orders from the Lord Imperator. Meanwhile, Volinus and the Theocracy have signed a peace treaty, agreeing to put their disputes to rest until this aggression from Pax can be stopped. The Komitjadii take on various mercenary contracts individually, their leader more than content to enjoy the vast wealth gleaned from the Felrun campaign. The region rests in an uneasy truce, for now, though as always plots bubble beneath the surface.
