Charles Freely ambushes Susan Steel

The roar of a European river is dulled by the slow and careful rumbling of a walking mobile suit. Large imprints form temporary ponds as the red heels of a Gundam Ground Type mobile suit snuck up the river.

The RX-79G kept low hiding from its prey a few kilometers away. Charles Freely, a new edition to the EFGF expanding mobile pilot corp, kept an almost permanent smirk on his face. His mobile suit cradles the 305mm Bazooka with the rest of his weapons stored in the container on his back. The periscope in the Gundam's head is extended and swiveling around.

"Hey you guys up there, what do you got for me?" Freely asks into his microphone.

Far up in the sky above him, a lone Dish EWACs aircraft flew in circles. The crew doesn't like being in the air without escort but hey, the guy on the ground has more to worry about.

"Freely unit, we have target located at this bearing," a moment pause as the computer on the Dish links up with the Gundam Ground Type. Such degree of communications is rare in a war with Minovsky particles but is embraced when available.

"Ah, I see her." Freely leans forward as he examines his front viewscreen. There, the silhouette of a large Zeon target sits there. Perfect.

"C'mon Natalie, we're doing this." Before the Dish crew can even ask what the hell he's talking about, the 305mm Bazooka booms in rapid succession.

On the other end of the bazooka's range, Susan Steel is jolted in her pilot seat. Like any sniper in the field, she is well conditioned for lying in wait for enemy targets; the Xamel suits her well. With only herself in the Xamel's two seated cockpit, the empty seat doubles as a storage place to sustain her for long periods. All of this doesn't matter for the momentum as the Xamel's massive chassis slide slowly downhill from the near hits. As the world shook around her, Steel swung the Xamel's sensors in every direction to find her assailant. Suddenly, the last bazooka round exploded directly on the Xamel.

"Yessssss!"

He saw the explosion cover the Xamel on his screen. Freely's smirk is wider as he tossed aside his empty bazooka. Trotting upstream a small distance he shrugs off the optional storage container and gleefully removes the beam rifle.

"Is the target doing anything you guys?" he asked the crew in the orbiting Dish aircraft.

A few seconds later, "We're not picking up movement but we're waiting for the interference to clear." With that remark, Freely made his way forward. The Federation mobile suit made about five steps forward when he hears the Dish Crew yelling. Suddenly, eight smoke trails came down all around him. The Xamel's 8-tube missile launcher rips off its whole load as the thermonuclear hover jets scream to life.

Steel brought her controls up and forward as the Xamel clumsily lifts the 360mm Bazooka with its little arms. Soon Freely was being fed back the punishment that he inflicted on Steel. But before the Zeon woman can press her attack, a bolt of red energy tore through the smoke and tears off the 8-tube missile launcher on the Xamel's left shoulder. She flinches and the massive artillery platform reels to the right with Steel trying to stop the Xamel from toppling.

"Yeee-haaa!" cries Freely as he pumps shot after shot at the Xamel. The ground around her being vaporized, Steel began to focus on retreating instead of retaliation. The Xamel's powerful hoverjets went to overdrive and blew a big cloud of dirt around the two mobile weapons. The confident EFGF pilot raises the Gundam Ground Type's shield on instinct; just in time to shield himself from the Xamel ramming and flipping the Gundam Ground Type like a toy. Even as he was spinning, Freely fired wild beam shots at Steel only to be met by 20mm fire. He saw one of his shots ate its way into the Xamel's puny right arm but the 20mm rounds kept coming. While not damaging, the projectile rounds forced Freely to take cover and try to make something out of the destruction around him.

But even with the help of the Dish aircraft, it took some time to clear up the mess on the battlefield. By that time, Susan Steel of the Zeon's Xamel is long gone.
