Supplementary to the Jukon-class submarine, the Zeon wet navy needed to further their naval war machine with a large vessel to fill a number of roles in combat. The Mad Angler-class, as it became to be known, did all of these quite nicely.
As a submarine tender, the Mad Angler is intended to help keep Jukon-class submarines supplied and armed in the field. Its two observation towers can be used to dock with Jukons while underwater and covertly transfer cargo and personnell. As a combat vessel, the Mad Angler fills a heavy attack role. Rather than be swift and nimble like a Jukon, the Mad Angler strives for pure firepower. For attacking land targets, the Mad Angler is equipped with ten long-range surface-to-surface vertical-launch missile bays. Originally intended to deliver nuclear weapons, they now usually carry a conventional payload. For marine combat, the Mad Angler is armed with nine torpedo launchers, all clustered around the bow and forward-facing. The Mad Angler is intended for the transport and fielding of heavy firepower, and it is no exception in either front.
As a transport craft, the Mad Angler is supreme yet again. Its gargantuan hold can carry twelve marine mobile suits, and it is still capable of underwater deployment. Additionally, a special section of the hangar is devoted entirely towards the storage and maintainence of the new Grabro-class marine mobile armor.

| Laurent Auclair | |
|
A native of Earth, Laurent Auclair moved to Side 3 and attempted to settle down. He eventually married and had a child. By the suggestion of his wife, Isabelle, Laurent Auclair enlisted in the Zeon Military Forces before the onset of the One Year War after unsuccessfully finding a stable job. Due to his time as a Federal officer, he knew he'd never see frontline combat and looked forward to an easy life. When war was just over the horizon, he was detained due to his past allegiances, but was later released and offered the command of Zeon's new Jukon-class submarine. Though he offered no command experience, he accepted the post graciously and was shipped to Earth.
As war ravaged above the water, Auclair settled into his new command. Since the Federation had no conventional navy of its own, his Jukon operated in conjunction with Zeon ground forces, offering support whenever he could. One defeat after another - the first at the hands of the Desert Eagles, then at Malta - Auclair sunk into deep depression. It wasn't until he organized the 86th Independent Battlegroup with SS Officer Jennifer Morales at Constantinople that things really turned around for him. As time passed, he acrued more resources and established a subamarine fleet of his own. His first big promotion occured when he commanded a prisoner exchange. Auclair has operated in and around six of the seven continents on Earth, and was instrumental in the defense of both New York and Odessa. It is often said that New York only fell because Auclair was recalled to Odessa, and this is the only reason why Odessa held. He is also responsible for the destruction of Torrington, the rescue of Zeon war hero Elran, and for harassment tactics in South Africa, South America, Europe, East Asia and Australia. He currently commands the Grey Ghost under the direct supervision of Char Aznable, the Red Comet.
