Technical and Historical Notes
The Katarl was bred out of a top secret project by Ghiren Zabi to create a mobile suit that could participate in the most absolute of black ops environments, such as destroying civilian colonies or operating outside of the Antarctic Treaty. It was quickly realized that a spaceship would be unable to deliver these sorts of attacks without a positive ID, whereas a mobile suit would have much better success. Using the brand new Gelgoog frame and heavily modifying it, the MS-19N was born.

The Katarl is purposefully designed to not look like a Zeon mobile suit, and is the only Zeon model to not use a mono-eye for its primary camera. Designed for long range recon missions, it carries more than three times the fuel reserves of a Rick Dom, and an enlarged cockpit with enough oxygen to last the pilot five days without resupply. Its communications antenna is equally gigantic, allowing it to communicate with a base ship from distances that make even Zaku II E recon models blush. However, as the Katarls primary function is that of an advanced strike force and not of recon, it does not carry the sensor equipment that the Zaku II E boasts.

In addition to its long range capabilities, the Katarl sports a host of top secret technologies designed to make it undetectable to enemy sensors. Mobile suits use automated computer correction systems to adjust for the blurred image of a minovski particle battlefield, and this technology is designed to approximate targets to the closest known mobile suit. Because of this, if a new Zaku or a new Dom is designed, a Federal targetting computer will still read the target as a Zaku or a Dom. The Katarl however, uses such a heavy modification of the Gelgoog frame that it will not come up with any matches on Federal or Zeon targetting computers, making it an unknown blob on a pilots visual screen. In addition to this feature, the Katarl uses a pair of technologies that make it nearly invisible to conventional sensors. Two 'wings' on the mobile suits back are actually tiny minovski particle emitters, allowing it to broadcast its own M-particle cloud without the assistance of a base ship. Further, the Katarl is painted in a radar absorbtive black paint. For all intensive purposes, in space or on Earth at night, the Katarl is invisible.

The Katarl also sports a very heavy armament. It can use a number of conventional Zeon hand weaponries, but also has a reactor that can support internal beam weaponry. A mega particle gun is stored in pop out slots on the top of each forearm, and it also mimicks Federal designs with a beam saber and pair of head vulcans. In addition, because its frame and body are so large, the Katarl is an exceptionally strong mobile suits, matching Federation Gundams in raw physical power.

Weapons and Features
90mm MMP-80 machinegun. Based off of the highly-successful MMP-80 early design used by the Dom, the Zaku Kai's 90mm is a larger, more durable weapon that about as powerful as the standard-issue MMP-78 rifle and certainly an improvement over the original ZMP-50D. It arms a grenade launcher at the front of its forward grip. The Katarls MMP-80 also includes a custom mobile suit sized silencer.

ZUX-197 Jagdgewehr - A mobile suit-scaled pump-action shotgun with a large magazine capacity and detachable stock. Typically armed with disintegrating shells filled with tungsten flechettes, capable of tearing through nearly any armor protection but lacking accuracy at distance.

Bishop Kratos
Ghiren wished for a pilot for the Katarl that would be capable of using it to its full ability, would be independant enough to operate without orders if necessary, and who could be easily written off as a terrorist or as never having existed if worse came to worse. A commitee was formed, which eventually decided Bishop Kratos was the best candidate.

Kratos had a sordid history with the SS, a man who had an exceptional amount of talent, but was unable to come to terms with his personal vice; killing people and eating them. He had massacred EF and Zeon officers, as well as civilians and guerillas in his terms, and was very good at keeping his activities a secret, up to and including killing his own superior officers in the SS when they found out. However, the trail of missing persons was too much to hide, and it became obvious that Kratos was a man who had to be removed. Ghiren simply decided to remove him in a productive way.

The plan to place Kratos with the Katarl was almost ruined when he was captured in Federation occupied South Africa, but a mysterious pardon that came straight from General Revil (at Ghirens request) put the plan back in motion. The Katarl was sent to Odessa, where he picked it up after volunteering for and being announced killed in a suicide mission immediately prior to the assault on the fortress.

He hasn't been seen since.
