Technical and Historical Notes | |
The MS-06J Zaku II is a minor adaptation of the MS-06F, intended for land combat. The J-type Zaku II is almost exactly identical to the F-type; the visible exceptions being purely superficial, including three spikes on its shield and more pronounced wrists.
The J-type Zaku II eliminates much of the space-exclusive hardware of the F-type, including its enhanced self-sealing components around the cockpit, atmospheric filtration, etc. Also, the F-type Zaku's calf thrusters have been replaced with larger, more directional thrusters in its feet. The J-type features an improved gyroscope for land combat, and is somewhat more maneuverable in a terrestrial environment than the F-type. The extra weight saved by phasing out unnecessary gear gives the Zaku slightly more armor than its universal counterpart.
The land combat Zaku arms the same weaponry as the F-type, but is much more commonly equipped with cracker grenades than other models. It can also optionally arm a pair of 3-tube missile launchers strapped to its legs. These launchers would significantly slow a space use model, but are a minor hindrance in a terrestrial environment.
