Tael took stock of his surroundings, from what he could tell he had lost everything in the blast eve, curiously, his armor and survival provisions. Luckily, Aether had breathable air though as he took a closer look around he realized, this was not Aether. The dimensional storms that brought down his transport were nowhere to be seen and the environment was very different thankfully, again with breathable air. "I've been dropped into worse hell holes." he smiled shaking his head. "At least the beach is nice." His survival training first called for setting up a distress beacon within his armor. "heh, well that's not gonna work, you know what, you'd think they'd train us to survive without the armor." Mentally he skipped the other fifteen steps involving diagnostics and system repair. Following the next step he grabbed a stick and started to survey the environment, walking along the beach see'ing if any of his equipment had followed him through the dimensional rift, that had to be it, he had heard stories about things such as that but most of them involved naked women and copious amounts of alcohol. Tael threw himself to the ground as a light approached from the surrounding forest, he readied his stick, hoping whatever it was, was small enough to be intimidated by it. A small green reptile shuffled out of the bushes carrying a lantern. "Hello" Tael said in federation common as he got up. "would you mind guiding me to your village?" The creatures yellow eyes stared blankly at him as it twisted the knife in it's hand. If only the creature would speak so Tael could anticipate a similar language but it did nothing but, stare at him, holding it's knife in front of it in what, to Tael, seemed a defensive posture. Tael couldn't afford to fight so ill equipped so he simply waived goodbye, and started walking along the beach again. It was several miles before Tael realised the creature was still behind him, shuffling with the knife still held in front of him. "he's like a lost puppy." Tael thought as he shrugged the realization that he had a stalker off. |

"good-bye little guy" Tael said as he waded into the water on the southern tip of the island, if he was going to find civilization, he was going to have to swim. He shivered as the water rose up to his waist, cold but not freezing, he took one final look back at the lantern toting creature as it stared at him from the bank and swam to deeper waters. ______ On the other bank, the shivering GFMC struggled to light a fire, his cold hands losing grip consistently on the piece of wood he was building friction on. "Please don't tell me that wood on this planet doesn't burn." Although no sooner had he said it than a thin trail of smoke rose from the kindling. As Tael's fire burned it had attracted the attention of a couple of bandits, after the laughter from seeing the man was stark naked they began discussing amongst themselves how best to package the individual, fetch since in their mind, he could easily fetch a high price in the arena or perhaps as a manservant to some rich aristocracy. "So, let's have your arms, don't want you making a break for it and getting yourself damaged." The slobbering male said "well at least their human" Tael thought "Better tie his legs too." His female counterpart said, as she itched herself. "And I am familiar with the language." "Stupid hag, we'd have to walk slower then, best to tie it around his neck." "not too bright though." "Just tie him up and shut your toothless maw." She said tossing her compatriot a length of roughly twisted rope. As the lumbering man reached out to Tael, whom they had not yet bothered to address directly, he soon felt his arm break as he touched Tael, enraged the man tried to draw his large sword from his back but, before he could Tael delivered several sharp jabs to his would be slavers' throat. The man clasped his neck and backed away coughing and sputtering as his female companion shoot a quick bolt from her crossbow at Tael. The bolt tore through Tael's arm, muscles contracting in a fruitless defense of the penetration. Yelling Tael charged the woman who was attempting to wind the crossbow for another shot. As he neared, she fumbled for a dagger in a band across her chest, Tael delivered a quick blow to her jaw before grabbing and burying the dagger into her chest. "You Bastard, I dun care about the money, you have to die." The brute said, having regained his breath and drawn his weapon. Tael held his bleeding arm, and bracing his foot against the dieing woman, pulled the dagger out to confront his other enemy. "Sorry about that, don't mean to pull out so soon." The brute let out an earsplitting yell as he charged forward, sword held high overhead, Tael through his body forward attacking the brute's center of gravity, then used the charge to throw him overhead with the brute yelling in confusion and fear and Tael yelling out in pain as the movement widened the wound from the crossbow bolt. With a thud the brute struck the ground and Tael fell to his knees, blood streaming from the gaping wound. the brute made no movements, he had been impaled on his own sword. Tael stumbled over to his fire, placing the dagger's blade into it. "Oh lucky me, field surgery." |

Tael had finished removing the bolt from his arm and had a nice new burn in it's place, on top of the burn he had gained a few grimy clothes from the bandits he had encountered, he would later be told that this land was governed by a group called the "Brotherhood", it seemed like the name for a cult. Tael had stripped the bandits of anything they had, which wasn't much, and left them to burn in the small fire arranged in a lude position. Perhaps Tael wished to mask their deaths as a crime of passion but, it was more likely he took pleasure in the bewildred expression he imagined whomever found them would wear. The flees from the male's bear pelt, bit into Tael's skin, the untanned hide attracted flies as well but, it was better than being stark naked. Tael rounded a bend in the path, nearing a small market town. It was becoming clear to Tael that this world would not have a way home, if they didn't have space travel, they certainly wouldn't have the higher technology like the federation but, on tallon IV he had seen the ruins of the Chozo, a race far more advanced than the federation retreat to seclusion and simplicity. He held out hope. ________________ Tael had thought he would have smelled bad, and repelled the citizens of the world he was on but, as he entered the town he saw chamberpots emptied from windows falling into the alleyways below. It was like something out of a fairy tail, a startlingly realistic fairy tale. He worked his way through town, among the stalls filled with rotting meat and surprisingly fresh fauna from the planet. He heard the name "Thracs" several times, learning this to be the planet's name. "Hey new arrival, where'd you get that pelt?" a slim man said smiling through broken teeth. "I had a friend who wore one like that." Tael looked at the man, fingering the heat warped dagger he still carried. "Whoa there friend, if i was going to kill you i'd have chosen a better place." He said throwing Tael a fresh apple. "If i did that, i'd get arrested." Tael caught the apple keeping his silence, however the shady character would not be keeping his. "HEY THIEF, THIEF, GUARDS!" the man yelled as every eye in the marketplace turned to Tael and the piece of fruit he unwittingly carried. Tael glared at the man, who was in stitches by now, before running past him quickly followed by armored soldiers. |

"Yeah, and I'm sure you got away scott free" Nike said taking another few gulps from the bottle. "Then they made you king right?" "Don't forget the harem of beautiful women." Tael retorted taking the bottle from Nike and taking a few gulps himself. they both laughed heartily at the comment, Tael and Nike had made it a habit to gather together when their duties allowed, and sometimes when it didn't and have a few drinks. They were both from military backgrounds so having good times any time they were able felt natural, one or the other would show up with a bottle of some intoxicated plop down and they would trade drinks until they met the bottom. "Next time you'll have to tell me the story about how you got kicked in the nads from that Doctor guy." Nike said, leaning back in her chair. "Don't remind me, that hurt like hell." Tael smiled back |
