Enki was in a pinch. He sat silently in his cell, one hand on the dirt floor, seemingly in mediation. But his mind was a flurry of activity, trying to understand the series of events that led to this conclusion. He had searched for the terrorist, "Squealer". He had found his agents, an Elf Assassin, and a waitress with an oversized guns. And somehow, been arrested with them. He figured it would be an easy argument to find his way out, and appeal to the sponsor that had recommended this trail. However, he found his sponsor quite difficult to find and his interrogator unconvinced and wild. It was not easy. Across from him, an ordinarily unassuming girl rued her fate. She had hoped that this act of fidelity had impressed Squealer, enough to impress him and release her brother. But, it was less than certain. She didn't know how that perverted creature had cultivated such power in the Granitewood militia, but she worried more about the things her brother would do to release her. Things were so much easier before this wave of terrorism... In an adjacent cell, the Elf Assassin was wild with ideas of escape. She was securing digging materials, doing her best to seduce the guards, coming up with Plan Bs, Plan Cs, all the way to Z and then some. She wasn't going to spend any more time than necessary taking catnaps on a stone mattress. There was work to do, and money to be made. So it was natural that her heart jumped when she saw Squealer striding down the hallway with a guard at his side. He was unshackled, unshaken, and in standard dress - so it was clear he wasn't a prisoner. They passed the waitress, to her dismay. Passed the assassin, to her streams of profanities. All the way to Enki. The cell door opened and Enki stood up. The guard grabbed Enki's chain, pulling him along with Squealer at his side. The three walked to the end of the hall, to a door labeled 'EXECUTION BLOCK', then on and on through it. Squealer glanced back at the hall, where the wildness and crying had led to an honored silence. Enki walked through the execution grounds, stopping at a bloodstained wall. He stood there for nary more than a minute, before the gunshots sounded. But, to his surprise, he felt no bullets. A flurry of firecrackers were dancing along the closed door, touching Enki's confusion. Meanwhile, a second guard unlocked his shackles, bowing and gesturing to another door - where the two escorts had already excused themselves. Confused but curious, Enki walked on. This was no prisoner zone, this was policemen hard at work, struggling to get their man and enforcing the laws of Granitewood to the best of their ability. Enki kept walking, until he was gestured to an interrogation room. Was this all a ruse to get him to talk? There inside, was Squealer. The level of hatred in Enki rose, and Squealer closed his eyes as if to deny it. There were so many things Enki wanted to say, but he figured listening would be more amenable to his situation. So he waited. And Squealer spoke. "You did an excellent job." Enki narrowed his eyes. "We've been searching for those two terrorists for a long time now. That waitresses' brother is a bomb maker, and that assassin has been responsible for the death of two location officials, and god knows what else," Squealer said, snorting. "No doubt you're confused. I'm in deep cover, trying to unlock the secrets of this terrorist group, and nothing has been more successful then posing as one." Enki's eyes showed his relief - but Squealer's two faced politics disturbed him. That waitress didn't look like a criminal at all. The assassin, maybe. But something about this seemed.. corrupt. "We thank you for your cooperation, your understanding, and your service to the town of Granitewood. But as you are, you are invaluable to us. We want you to coordinate an escape. We're going to take Squealer out of the equation. We want you to go into deep cover, and find out the head of this group. He's thought to be a populist, but extremely secretive, and so far won't even associate with me. I can't imagine why," Squealer said, snorting. "It's up to you. So, we're releasing you. It's your decision to stay in town or not. You've netted us two terrorists, why not more? You'd be doing the town a favor." Enki starred in his eyes. Before he knew it, louder fireworks were exploding in the execution block, sounding like bombs. Raised voices. Strange voices in opposition. No doubt a ruse for escape. "Leave us. And ask your heart, to help yourself, or help the people. It's up to you," Squealer finished, standing up, saluting, and walking out of the room. As the door closed behind Enki, he saw that Squealer had left a small stack of cash on the table. He was being recognized. But, to be a criminal was to learn their ways. Was this something he wanted to do? He wondered silently, pocketing the cash, leaving the room, and exiting the police department. Outcome: Mission Complete.
