Draco

In the months since Bovril had abandoned his pack, he had seen great success. In his mind at least. The hauls he got from ambushing travelers and lone traders were not especially valuable or useful, but they were his. All his. And he would only continue to hunt and reap all the rewards. His instincts had served him well so far, telling him when to attack a target and when to let it pass by. Even today, as he hid behind a mossy rock, he had let several travelers pass by because of the trouble he might have in subduing them. After hours of lurking though, prey finally showed itself.

It was a creature Bovril was unused to seeing, a small mushroom creature that seemed to trundle along, leaving a small trail in the dirt as it scooted. It seemed oblivious to the world, staring blankly ahead with a big dopey grin on its face. It didn't look like it was carrying anything, but it looked big enough for a substantial meal. Bovril drew his knife and began to scale the rock he hid behind. To no surprise, the mushroom creature continued to ignore him, carrying on with its pointless wandering. Bovril took a quick glance about - there was no other creature in sight.

With a loud hiss, he leapt from the rock and prepared to plunge his knife into the mushroom's back. Out of the corner of his eye though, he saw something rise up from behind him. With a loud bellow, what was once a rock lunged forward and sprayed some kind of dust from its mouth. The strength of the sudden gust threw Bovril to the ground and away from his prey. Despite the sudden, strange burning he felt all over his body, he was prepared to defend his prey until he could eat it, not some strange rockbeast.

A moment later, shock paralyzed the reptile's body as he saw the mushroom creature suddenly lifted into the air, a long thick appendage sticking out of its bottom and going right into the dragon-like figure before him. A trick! The lizard man lunged forward, aiming his knife at the creature's heart, but it let loose with another blast of its strange dust-breath into Bovril's face. The lizard man dropped to the ground, trying to wipe the painful spores off of his face, but he soon began to cough. The pain had spread inside his mouth somehow and was slowly creeping into his lungs.

Motion of any kind suddenly caused him pain as he struggled to look up at his opponent. The dragon snorted contentedly as it watched its prey die, spreading its jaws wide to begin feeding.

Hours later, another traveler would stumble across the spore-covered bones of Bovril, covering his face to keep from vomiting at the disturbing sight. Though he did not know it at the time, the Dragonshroom had awakened and was now roaming the countryside.
