The slums of Granitewood were an entrepeneur's delusions of grandeur. Signs, street lamps, posters screamed out 'WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF TOMORROW!' But decades have passed since those times, the signs are lost, the street lamps dark and the posters torn and weathered. Here, the crown jewel was a pyramid shaped skyscraper - where citizens from all over Thracs would visit the new city. But economics had been there first, leaving the building half-finished and unsuitable for living. Nonetheless, the Granitewood people tried. Smitty Griswold was, at one time, an adventurer in khaki. His worn hat and ripped clothes was a gateway to the past, when he would run on the tops of trains, rescue damsels in distress and deliver flying kicks to diabolical masterminds. Now, he could do little more than limp. He and his party of hobos and drug addicts had gotten the location out of Tubby Farnham, thanks to Kagai. Equipped with kitchen knives, hypodermic needles, and hobo-class shotguns, they prepared to raid the biggest fortress in Granitewood. Making their way to the roof, a party of three had a special mission. Smitty knew Metzger "The Butcher" was a devious fellow, so he dispatched three mercenaries to do the dirty work of taking him out. There was Kagai, the vampire. Enki, the stone warrior. Renminbi, the pony. The three worked their way up the fire escape, going up flight after flight of stairs in an abandoned section of the apartments. Finally, they reached the roof. Kagai unravelled a blueprint. "The Butcher is probably right under us, in the penthouse suite. But he's going to have a private guard with him. We'll wait until Smitty's attack starts, then burst through the windows and take him out." Enki nodded, pointing to another section - as he did, the sound of an explosion market Smitty's start. "I'll break open the floor here, to let the guards fall into the earth. Meanwhile, you and Renminbi can attack Metzger. Renminbi was busy adjusting her gear, pulling the saddlebag tight over her torso, tugging on the rappel line. "C'mon everypony, let's do this." The three mercenaries, clad in black, swan dived off the side of the building, swung as their lines met their limit, then rolled back and burst through the glass of the penthouse suite. Enki landed in a crouching position, unphased. Renminbi rolled into a somersault, then got on her hind hooves. Kagai continued to sail through the air, delivering a flying kick to The Butcher's torso. He bounced off Metzger's giant, bloodstained appron. "AH, FRESH MEAT!" Black suited guards poured out of the hallways, moving like a sea of bodies at the three assassins. Enki made good on his promise, running into the middle of the hallway and pounding two fists onto the floor. It gave out, sending the whole group downward floor by floor into a cloud of dust. The building made a low rumble as it struggled to survive the strike. Meanwhile, Kagai was attacked by the Butcher's two guards. In a flash of light, he was armored head to toe, and in another wielding a fearsome blade. The guards pulled out samurai swords, and they soon locked in mortal combat. A flurry of sparks left Kagai all but invulnerable, and after a few rounds the two guards lay dead at his feet. "Stop right there, pork rind! Or the little pony gets it!" Renminbi was in The Butcher's clutches, raised above the ground by the throat by the wind-swept broken window. Kagai glanced back, and saw that Enki did not rise out of the dust cloud - but neither did the guards. He looked back at the Butcher, and saw there was no other choice. "This is the end, Metzeger! You die by my hand!" At this, the Butcher threw Renminbi out of the window, her waif pony screams being ended with an abrupt end. Kagai ran to the window, but could only see a light blue blur stained with red on the streets below. Kagai lifted his keyblade to finish the job, but unexpectedly three elevators dinged. Suddenly, tear gas was fired, and filled the room with smoke. An array of red lasers was scanning the apartment - it looked like twenty or more. The Butcher ran, and Kagai was about to follow - until he heard a few bullets whiz by him. He closed and locked what appeared to be his private office, labelled 'BUTCHER'. "This is the Granitewood City Police Department! Don't move!" Enki emerged from the crowd, holding a badge. He looked around, inspecting the bodies for Metzger. He looked back up at his former ally, and Kagai could only return the look with confusion. "Where's the Butcher?" Enki started. "He disappeared into that office," Kagai responded sullenly. "Where's Renminbi?" Enki continued. Kagai only looked at the ground, and they both understood. Enki gathered with the cops in a SWAT formation, and they burst into the office. The door led to a series of winding stairs, that curved around to a lower-level office. A loud wooden sound preceded them, closing up a trapdoor as they entered. A series of clicks and red lasers flooded the room, all pointed at the figure in an apron looking away at them. "Don't move, Butcher! We've got you surrounded!" The figure stood, looking at the window, not saying a word. Enki approached first, grabbing the Butcher by the shoulder and whirling him around. "I'm sorry everypony, but your princess is in another castle." Renminbi smiled, clad in the clothes of the Butcher. Enki could only look in surprise as the cops put the cuffs on her, dragging her away by the hooves. Enki lifted the trap door, revealing an immensurably long fireman's pole, just soon enough to see the Butcher land at the ground floor and get into a waiting car - stepping over a light blue blanket and bottle of ketchup as he did so.
