The light grows quickly, eventually passing over the planet’s eclipse of it, and its rays come in plain view of the hundreds of cargo ships, warships, civilian shuttles, and various other transports lined up, waiting for the festivities of the day to begin. The first major engagement in the “After War” times of the After Era, appropriately takes place where the largest military engagement of all time once played out. Among the spectators are several notable groups and ships, the first being Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds where The Family brings back the fine tradition of poker before every major free for all. Unfortunately they bring back the “fine tradition” of cheating along with it. “Eight aces,” Jack Black places his hand down on the table triumphantly, almost assured of his win in five-card stud. “Oh yea!?” Tural Zenadar replies. “Ten aces!” He places his hand down adjacent from Jack’s. “Fo sho,” is all Marlon says, placing down a winning thirty-two aces. The other two players concede defeat, while the non-Family members grouped around the table stare blankly at them. In another ship, a Duchy of Zeon scientific research crew quickly prepares Anyalika for the free for all. Though each does their individual systems checks three times, all are uneasy about sending the Nobel into battle with this many suits, this early on in the pilot’s career. Their nervousness is not reflected in Anyalika, of course, who pushes one aside to climb into the cockpit, put on the mobile dress, and walk confidently out of the ship. Perhaps the two most distinguished spectators are two no one knows about. Inside a Rewloola class Zeon cruiser no longer transmitting Zeon battle codes, two men stare, not at the suits already grouping for the coming battle, but at seemingly empty space. One of the men’s eyes darts back and forth, the events of thirty years ago, playing back in his mind as if they happened yesterday. The second does quite the same, before pulling himself away from the window and walking away. “He’s watching, you know,” the first man turns from the window and begins to join the other in a steady pace to the bridge. “He always is. But so are they,” the second smirks, pointing back to the area outside the window they had been watching. The two enter a lift, pushing in their desired floor, and closing the door behind them. Outside, any last minutes suits arrive at the designated area for battle while the ships slowly move away to a safe distance. Though there’s obviously a chance that, with this much firepower, a spectator could be harmed, a “front seat” view of the action is worth the risk for most people. Tension begins to file through the ranks of the pilots as they each turn to their mobile weapons, based on various ships and supply platforms, and kick off into space. Most float freely for a second, getting used to the environment before hitting their thrusters and heading towards the group of other suits. A hush falls over the crowd, each pilot bracing their selves and taking up targets. The various “big guns” prepare to fire, while the smaller suits take individual targets. Regardless of the suit, all pilot can merely wait for the official timer to start going down, and the buzzer to go off. Jojo Nanis, however, merely prays his little monkey ass off, as five suits turn towards his small worker’s pod. Participants: 69 “Five,” Rock Howard mutters, training both of the Airmaster’s buster rifles on the Geara Doga. “Four,” Lacein Calintal smiles as she takes careful aim at several suits unfortunate enough to catch her eye. “Three,” Caporal Morguasa Temple flips a switch, and uses the Flash system to contact D.O.M.E. “Two,” Alex Dresden deploys all ten of his planet defensors as he sees he’s one of the targets of Lacein’s Quin Mantha. “One!” Anyalika Norakova shouts with excitement, right before the scientists activate the berserker system, and the Nobel goes into its usual mad state. The Nobel surges with energy, throwing back even the big guns that had planned to open fire and reduce the numbers quickly. With a burst of speed, the berserking suit thrusts forward, crashing through the bottom part of the Rafflesia and coming out the other side. All watching shock as the giant mobile armor, which had been one of the favorites to win, immediately goes up in a ball of fire. “Shit...” is all that comes to mind on most pilot’s minds. The Nobel throws itself directly into the group of suits, all immediately scattering. It manages to grab a hold of the Shenlong and First, however, and swings both of them together, crushing both suit’s thrusters and throwing them off into space. The suit turns to the Nu and Hydra next, bursting directly at them, only to be intercepted half way by the Mercurius and its crash shield. Seeing that the Nobel has been “distracted,” the remaining suits finally get their bearings together, and turn to fight each other. A light show ensues as various beam rifles and mega particle weapons are fired, most missing their intended target in the confusion. The Epyon bursts out within the crowd in a similar fashion to the Nobel. In a single second its heat rod comes down hard on the Ashura, then its sword slices the suit in half. The Epyon quickly turns to the Geara Doga and Kaempfer, but the Kaempfer opens up with its shotgun in time to push it back, while the Geara Doga disables the Epyon with its missiles. The Kaempfer finishes the suit off with its own warheads, only to turn and receive a beam sword to the chest from the Geara Doga. “Hehe...” Caporal smiles. The Gundam X had been thrown off course by the Nobel’s attack, but it was now ready to fire its satellite cannon while the rest of the “pack” fought together. With a pull of the trigger the weapon unleashed its compressed microwave energy, sending a blinding beam directly into the pack of suits. The Heavyarms and Leopard, to slow to effectively dodge in space, are disintegrated, while the Neue Ziel loses its entire tail binder. The blast awakens the other suits, however, and all turn on the X. Within seconds the Deathscythe and F91 are both on top of the X. The Deathscythe slices the satellite cannon in half, while the F91 shoot its VSBR at point blank range into the chest of the X. The F91 goes to turn on the Deathscythe, but the Deathscythe had already done so to him. A buster shield flies directly into the F91’s cockpit, barreling in and destroying the suit. The Tallgeese flies around, watching various saber and beam rifle duels going on, and hoping to pick up a prime target to come in quickly with the dober gun. However, all he ends up finding is the Quin Mantha, its guns blazing hot, and the wreckage of the Gelgoog drifting beside it. The Tallgeese reacts quickly and fires its dober gun shell, only to have the shell disintegrate in a blaze of mega particle fire. It shoots upwards, hoping to avoid its own destruction, but ends up on the receiving end of the Ultimate’s beam fire. The Tallgeese is ripped apart, and the Ultimate and Quin Mantha take a few seconds to “stare each other down.” “Heh... The bigger they are the harder they fall,” Lacein smirks. The Quin Mantha opens up with its mega particle cannons once more, but notices that shots from several other directions also converge on the Ultimate. The Jamru Fin, Virsago, Sazabi, and Zanneck pin the giant down, blasting several holes directly through it in hopes of knocking it out of the fight. While the intense beam fire keeps it immobile, the Shining flies in, its pilot concentrating directly on the Ultimate’s cockpit. “Shining Finger!” The golden hand of the Shining crashes into the cockpit of the Ultimate, the Shining’s momentum causing it to barrel into the behemoth. Unlike the Nobel and the Rafflesia, however, explosions occur inside the Ultimate, its pilot no more, and the Shining goes up along with its foe. The remaining attackers of the Ultimate attempt to fly away before the shockwave of energy hits them, but the Sazabi, Quin Mantha, and Zanneck are all disabled before they can even turn to flee. Participants: 53 Meanwhile, the Val Varo, seeing an easy target, heads directly for the Neue Ziel. Usually its superior, the injured Neue Ziel presents an easy kill for the anxious pilot of the Val Varo. The Varo deploys both claws and charges directly at the crippled mobile armor. Hiro attempts to correctly maneuver out of the way, but only ends up bringing himself closer to his attacker. The Val Varo strikes with its claws, clamping down on the mobile armor, then boosts off with it. However, it only manages to travel a dozen meters before getting pasted in the back by a toe missile. The Big Zam’s weapon causes the Val Varo to explode, in turn wiping out the Neue Ziel. The gigantic Doggorla comes into the picture almost a kilometer across the battlefield, interrupting saber duels between the Physalis, Victory 2, Dendrobium Stamen, and Crossbone X-1. The Musai-sized mobile armor quickly goes on the offensive. The tailrads open up from various directions, littering the area with beam fire. The aforementioned suits attempt to use their various shields to block the fire, but the numbers prove to be to great, and all four suits are quickly sliced apart. The tailrads return to the Doggorla, and the mobile armor leaves to search for new targets. “You knew it was inevitable you stupid monkey,” the pilot of the Geminass laughs as he “passes” the ball, soccer style, to the Tallgeese II, who in turn punts it into the abyss. The punt is intercepted by the Kowloon, however, and with a gigantic kick sends the ball spiraling directly into the chest of the Tallgeese II, actually managing to disable the suit from the force of the impact. Before the Geminass can react, the Kowloon cloth is around it. With a good tug, the suit is cut in half. Stephen Dranne concentrates his mind, utilizing the Flash system’s easy interface to pilot his Rasveyt bits along with his own suit. The group of mobile suits flies circles around a group of three mobile suits, the Z’Gok, Hyaku Shiki, and Doven Wolf. The three suits each attempt to open fire at the correct suit, but the number of bits overwhelms them, taking out each suit easily. Stephen smirks, turning to find another target, when the Rose appears. “Rose Bits!” Jean-Paul screams. The dozens of Rose’s bits burst out of their holder and surround the Rasveyt and its own bits. With a smile, Jean-Paul unleashes his ultimate attack, and the area within his bits lights up with beam fire, vaporizing the Rasveyt. It turns in time to receive a hand directly through the chest, as the Nobel once again makes its presence known, the Mercurius’s head in its other hand. “Aaaaaaaaaaaaah!” Anyalika screams, shooting into another group of unlucky fighters. This time the Zorin Soul and Jagd Doga end up on the receiving end, despite attempts to fight back. The Nobel merely slices the Zorin Soul in half with its beam ribbon, and cleanly cuts through the Jagd Doga’s cockpit with its hoop. It starts to burst off, only to smash into an invisible wall. It turns around in time to see the Nu standing completely still, its pilot using all of his concentration on the funnels. Anyalika gives out another shout and charges, but the fin funnels act as if they were the pilot’s own reactions, splitting their previous shield, and opening fire from all different directions on the Nobel. The combined firepower is enough to knock even the Nobel out of the fight. Tural collapses in his cockpit only seconds after seeing the Nobel go down, the Jamru Fin finishing off his suit for him. Participants: 33 The O, Bawoo, and G-Saviour each boost away from one another, their respective beam sabers’ nearly drained of energy after having fought for most of the free for all. Alex eyes his two opponents, realizing his G-Saviour is obviously the superior in speed, he boost to the side and forward before the other two suits can react. The bulky The O is his first target, his beam saber entering into its back before it can turn, and sliding along till the suit is cut in half. Chris Din attempts to take the G-Saviour out before it can turn to him, firing all five mega particle guns in his shield, but the G-Saviour is simply to fast. The shoulder of the Saviour rams into the Bawoo, sending it off guard, and giving Alex the time to easily take it out of the picture with his beam saber. Berrik smiles as the Jamru Fin maneuvers past several duels going on, taking time to note the Deathscythe cutting through the Agguguy on its way to some other target, before blasting off to find a target of his own. The place where his father died seems to simply encourage his path of destruction. His eyes fall upon the Doggorla, the giant searching for its own target, and takes careful aim. The Doggorla happens to be aiming as the same time it’s hit, and manages to down the GM Sniper before the Jamru Fin’s beam of energy crashes into its main body, finally downing the mobile armor. The last large grouping of fighters, all of its members battered, continues to go at it. The Crossbone X-2, Airmaster, Big Zam, Ashtaron, and Psyco all trade fire, while only three dozen meters away the Xi and Penelope go one on one with each other. Randle McMurphy, inside the Big Zam, looks in anger as he sees his I-field’s time limit running out. Realizing it’s the one thing that’s kept him alive this long, he goes for a last ditch effort to clear the field. All twenty-eight anti-aircraft weapons open up in various directions, managing to wipe out the Crossbone X-2, and Ashtaron, and severely damage the Airmaster. The Psyco, no more then scratched by the onslaught, finishes off the Big Zam with its own beam weapons, putting the finishing touches on the Airmaster for good measure. Oblivious to the events that have happened only a few meters away from them, the Xi and Penelope continue an intense duel. Both parry and thrust; jab and retreat, in their own little duel. Their various thrusters kick back and forth, carrying them through a duel not reflective of their current VP status. Unfortunately, the “beauty” of the duel goes away when the Hamma Hamma decides to interfere. Renee smiles with glee as all eight of her space mines are deployed. She shoots her suit between the Xi and Penelope, neither one appreciating the interruption, and leads them directly to where she had laid the mines. The two run directly into the group of explosives, both pilots realizing about the trick entirely to late. “Hehe,” Renee says, an expression well known in all languages. She turns her suit around only to come face to face with a buster rifle. At almost point-blank range Rune pulls the trigger, obliterating the Hamma Hamma above the waist. “Hehe, indeed,” Rune smirks, turning his suit around, only to come face to face with the Vayeate’s beam cannon. The suit opens fire, destroying the Wing in a very similar fashion to the destruction of the Hamma Hamma. “I’m not going to add to this,” Jack Loire rolls his eyes. That doesn’t save him from the same fate, however, as the Geymark decides to finally make its presence known. Instead of a single, powerful, weapon, several powerful weapons completely ravage the Vayeate. Daniel Hino looks back and forth, scanning the area to prevent ending up with the fate of the other three. After five seconds he lets out a sigh of relief. Participants: 19 The Maxter and Kowloon trade punches furiously, each one physically exhausted. “Burning Punch!” Vince shouts, a column of fire coming out of the Maxter’s boxing glove. The Kowloon manages to dodge backwards, Jaren quickly reacting with his own ultimate attack. The Kowloon spins till it forms a cyclone-like body, and shoots directly at the Maxter, tearing through the suit, and flying past it to rip through a beam saber duel between the Hyrda and Silhouette. The two suits are easily disabled by the powerful attack, which finally stops right in front of the Virsago, its megasonic gun already charged. “Well... Shit,” Jaren admits defeat as his suit is consumed by the energy blast. The blast carries on and strikes its original target, the Pscyo, doing massive damage to the giant in mobile suit mode. The Psyco turns to its attacker, its structure already collapsing from the blast it raises its fingers and opens fire with the beam weapons inside. The beam manages to take out the Virsago, still recovering from firing the megasonic shot. Tim watches the Virsago blow up, before his screen goes black, and the Psyco stops responding. Having hid for most of the FFA, Marlon Walker finally decides to make his presence known. The most experienced pilot, he confidently grabs both beam sabers and begins searching out for pretty. His prey presents itself in the form of the Pallas Athene, the basic weapons platform almost drifting instead of putting up a regular fight. He in his path swerves the Messala, weapons blazing. The shots crash against the strong armor of the Turn A, doing little damage, but easily alerting the Pallas Athene to its attacker. Ci-Lain takes careful aim inside the Pallas Athene, not wanting to risk missing. When he’s satisfied with his lock, he unleashes the entirety of his weaponry towards the Turn A and Messala, just praying some manage to connect. His prayers are answered in a very loud way, as the various ship-killing weaponry detonates between the two suits. Despite the lack of a direct hit, the power is enough to decimate both participants, taking them out of the running. The Jamru Fin, having had the most impressive showing in the FFA, confidently continues his fast paced maneuvering past various mobile suit wreckage. His proximity sensors alert him to yet two more potential targets, and he speeds off to a debris-filled area within the battlefield. Upon arriving at his destination and not finding any enemies, he realizes his grave error. “Shit... An ambush,” Berrik scowls. The Jamru Fin pulls up just in time to avoid a beam shot from the Double Zeta, but manages to maneuver directly into the beam rife of the Re-GZ. Though they don’t destroy the suit, they damage it enough to make it an easy target for the SUMO’s beam gun. The rapid firing beams tear into the Jamru Fin, putting it down. “Heh... Well, shall we gentlemen?” Sean Miller asks, pointing his beam gun at the Double Zeta and his heat fan at the Re-GZ. The other two suits draw their weapons in recognition, and open up at each other. The SUMO, instead of firing, however, puts up its IF-field, allowing it to absorb their shots, while the other two hit each other directly. The Double Zeta wipes out the Re-GZ first, managing to stay alive long enough for the SUMO to drop its IF-field and finish it off with its beam gun. Participants: 7 From across the battlefield, the remaining participants group together in a relatively “clean” area. The Gaia Gear Alpha, Deathscythe, Geara Doga, Aesculapius, Gids Geese, Geymark, and Pallas Athene, all battered from various combat, seem to look at each other, none wanting to restart the fighting. Finally the Deathscythe decides to get it going again, and shoots for the most obvious target, the Geymark. In defense, the Geymark opens up with its beams, tearing apart the Deathscythe. It leaves an opening for the other suits however, who all open up on the walking fortress. The Geymark is impaled by five-dozen various shots, before it goes up in a giant explosion. The Pallas Athene turns to the Gids Geese, hoping to take it out in an ambush, but only manages to anger its pilot when the shots are completely nullified by the Gids Geese’s I-field. The entire load out of weapons on the Gids Geese turns methodically towards the Pallas Athene, the suit to slow to dodge. In a single pull of the trigger, the Pallas Athene is engulfed in weaponry. The Gaia Gear Alpha in turn slams its beam saber into the back of the Gids Geese, detonating its reactor. The blast severely damages, the Gaia Gear Alpha, however, and the Geara Doga takes up the opportunity, and takes the obviously superior suit out with several strong hits from the beam machinegun. The Geara Doga quickly turns to face the Aesculapius, the two suits starting each other down. Geara Doga goes to shoot its beam machinegun once more, but the rapid shots from the Aescualpius manage to knock the machinegun out of the Geara Doga’s hands. The Doga grabs its beam sword and charges, the rapid shots tearing into the non-essential parts of the Geara Doga. As soon as the Doga reaches the Aesculapius, it slashes down, taking off the left claw arm. Takiasha quickly switches to regular mode, and draws a beam sword. Both slash at each other, but the Aesculapius is faster. The Geara Doga manages to place its beam saber in the upper chest of the Aesculapius, but the Aesculapius takes apart the Doga in a clean slash. “... ha... Hahahahaha...” a half insane Takiasha laughs with glee, only to collapse into sleep from exhaustion.
