So I pretty much got accepted to all 3 colleges I applied for. Kendall in Chicago dropped me because I never got back to them, but they were my last resort. I was going to do Hospitality for Kendall. That leaves two. Kansas University and Colombia College (Chicago).

I'm leaning towards KU, but Columbia is more beneficial.

I'm planning on finishing my associates and then going for Journalism. Both schools are great for that degree, so I'm having trouble deciding.

Columbia would give me that city feel, but I'd still be close to home. Journalism would be a good degree to go for here as its located in the city, and that's where major newspapers will be. Also, from what I've heard, my teachers will most likely have written for the newspapers themselves, making it easier to find a job afterwords. Also if I find out Journalism is not my thing, there is more free space to move around. As soon as I visited the school, I wanted to go for like 6 different degrees.

I'm leaning towards Kansas because its quieter than the city, and it also gives me that state university feel I want to experience. My dad graduated there, which is how I first heard about it. I really liked the area and they offer a great program for journalism so that's a plus. I also want to leave this state.

My goals are that I eventually want to travel the world and write. I'd love to do that. I was also interested in hospitality because I've always had a passion for the culinary arts, just not too good at it (mostly following directions). I eventually want to own a restaurant even after I do Journalism.

So the reason I'm posting is because I would like to read some opinions. I'm very indecisive, if you haven't noticed.

My criteria for picking schools was pretty simple: what's the most convenient?

Nader! We should team up! We can travel the world together, fight crime, solve mysteries, screw hoes, and write stories about it then open a restaurant full of our trophies from the various adventures!

Everyone I know who's gone to Columbia hated it. I hear Kendall has a pretty good reputation in the culinary world but I don't know anything about that. I'd say go with Kansas.

I can tell you that if I were deciding between, say, two interns and one had a degree from Kansas or another solid state school and another had a degree from Columbia, I would almost certainly take the kid from Kansas, barring extraordinary circumstances (i.e., kid from Kansas has shitty grades while the kid from Columbia has great grades and lots of work experience).

Cost? I got into a mix of 5 or so schools from around NE, and for me most of it came down to cost. Unless you're going into making a ton of money, you don't want to get out with a retarded level of debt. I got out in the end with like 16k in loans. All told not too bad for college. If I paid what they wanted it would be like $80 a month. You get into borrowing 40-50k and the payments are going to be more than a car and close to what you'll pay for rent. Thats all assuming you get a job right after school, if not, then what?

Learn to grow up and make your own decisions rather then asking people on an online forum.

:P

(Sound enough like your parents?)

College is stupid. Get a business degree or some sort of trade school thing.

For serious.

You could go to plumbing school. (a few months/maybe two years) start a plumbing business and make six figures. I know quite a few guys around here, that are plumbers/landscapers making a shit ton more than I do, and for little to not cost or time.

Just wanted to chime in and say congratulations on graduating, Nader!

For what it's worth, I have a buddy who transferred to UK from Kansas. He said Kansas was a great school. He only transferred because his track coach made the move to KY, and he followed.
