The poor morale of the 42nd Brigade was quite obvious on the misty morning along the Normandy coast in France. The unusually cold weather for this time of year didn't help the men who were already moving slowly to load equipment aboard the Medea, Benedictus.
The good lord couldn't have given better men serve under me, thought Nigel as he sat in a chair watching the progress of the men. There was a small table with chairs where he sat drinking his morning espresso before his espresso machine was to be loaded aboard the Medea.
He was soon joined by his wife at the table who was drinking a cup of tea.
"What is it like to be a common person," asked Nigel as his wife sat down at the table.
Melissa's initially response spoke volumes, as if Nigel had asked the dumbest question she had ever heard.
"Common person? Well first you don't call other people common people, " responded Melissa as she slightly shaked her head.
"I just worry the men don't like me because I am a noble," said Nigel with a slight sigh as he looked out over the men.
"They probably do, look at yourself, you are sitting in a chair watching them work. They can't be happy with you doing that, " responded Melissa very bluntly. Though he had become accustomed to his new wife being very honest, it still caught him off guard when she spoke like this.
"I.... Well..." stumbled Nigel, as he tried to think of a reason why he should be sitting here, rather then carrying things aboard the Medea. "You are right..."
Nigel stood up shortly there after, and began to make his way towards the supplies to carry aboard the Medea. Melissa watched with pride as she saw her husband beginning to understand, but it didn't last long as she saw her husband pick up the espresso machine and begin carrying it all the way to the Medea with a broad smile on his face. She immediately slap her hand against her face in embarrassment.
Maybe he just doesn't get it, Melissa thought to himself.
The men of the 42nd had similar looks of shock on their face. Especially as Nigel made his way back over to the table to sit with his wife again. However, the men of the 42nd had taken quite a likely to the fireball of a wife that Nigel had, as they saw her immediately chew him out publicly for a moment before ordering him to go back and help carry things of importance.
A few minutes later Lieutenant Dzurik made his way over to the table where Melissa was still sitting with her tea.
"You ready for this my lady?" asked Joe as stood next to the table.
Melissa turned quickly to look at Joe saying, "Don't call me that."
Joe turned and looked at Nigel who was struggling to carry an ammo box, then looked back at Melissa. "Just like he has to learn not to be a noble, you need to learn to act like one sometimes. Like it or not you are one now."
"Well I don't want to be treated like one, it makes me sick, " said Melissa with an frustrated look to her.
"You could be the leader of our nation at some period, and it is our job to protect you no matter the costs, " stated Joe frankly. "You will just have to learn to deal with the fact that you are special."
"Well I don't have to like it," said Melissa still frustrated.
"Are you all packed?" questioned Joe.
"I put most of my things aboard the Medea this morning, and Phillip is ready to be picked up by his grandmother, " said Melissa, "and not the one who tried to kill him."
"Good, I will be assigning two men to stay with him. We don't want to take any chances," said Joe still with a serious look on his face.
"Thank you so much for all your help Joe, you are one of the few men I can trust, " said Melissa as she stood up to give him a small hug before heading off to take care of her son.
