This was a very difficult round of contests to decide. There were three people (Jojo, Jim and Cid) that I wanted to give several prizes to each, because their stuff is just monumentally better than anybody elses. But I can only give one prize to each person, so I've had to spread it out.
In the end, this is what I decided on:
Battle Writing Contest
Doesn't take much explanation. Daren comes in 2nd here, and Chris comes in first. I liked Chris's writing the most.
2nd place - Daren, 50 RP
1st place - Chris, 250 RP
Big News Contest
The funniest picture here was the one that spoke the most to the roots of Big News: Dans picture of children chasing an Ostrich. Latooni wins second place, for multiple reasons.
2nd place - Latooni, 50 RP
1st place - Dan, 250 RP
Profiles Contest
Several good profiles, with the best ones including pictures, good formatting, and links to RP posts. Just like last time, the best one is Cids, which is organized with the detail of a curriculum vitae, and includes extremely interesting writing. Second place goes to Tian, whose profile is short, sweet, and well formatted.
2nd place - Tian, 100 RP
1st place - Cid, Lucky specialization
Planning Contest
Chan basically went balls in on this contest, posting multiple extravagant maps on the Zeon board and making a storyboard spreadsheet dictating what he wanted every space member to do for the first two months of the RPG. However, it came off as extremely authoritarian, and since there is still only one post in the Zeon officer board, and a lot of the actual discussion on the plans seems to take place in IRC with the message board simply used to post results, the 1st place prize is going to Jojo, who did actually discuss with his members on both the officer and base forums like he's supposed to. Chan gets second place.
2nd place - Chan, 100 RP
1st place - Jojo, promoted to 1st Lieutenant
Most Original Character Contest
This contest is a little bit biased, because I can't really give it to a first time member. Apologies to you new guys, but moving on. Three characters really stood out as being original in this run. The first was Ritter Novosad, Dan actually doing a serious character rather than a practical jokester or a goofball like he always does. The second, winning second place, is Andrew, who has a character that I have been waiting for somebody to play probably since 2004 - Alain Grace is an oldtype who thinks he's a newtype. 1st place goes to Jim. Nadia Adelaide is a Zeonic Company military contractor, a character that makes an infinite amount of sense in the Gundam world, but one that nobody has played in any run of OYW. Not only that, but Jim actually did research on the way military contracting works, and his initial RP post where Nadia was signing her paperwork was nothing short of amazing. He gets the prize.
2nd place - Andrew, 100 RP
1st place - Jim, Zaku II E shield
Roleplaying Contest
This contest was extremely hard, because I wanted to give it to either Cid, Jojo or Jim, who are all winning first prizes of their own. In the end I decided that those other contests all fit those characters more, and just moved on to who I had left. 2nd place goes to Aleksei, whose posts are very simple, but instill a feeling of real humanity that I don't often see in OYW characters. One of the reasons I like this game more than All Gundam games is it feels more down to Earth, more realistic, and I like seeing characters that resemble real people rather than anime characters. 1st place is going to Thomas. Thorvald Siggurdson also feels like a real character to me, but like usual Thomas's writing is so enjoyable and so detailed that I wouldn't be surprised if he stole the dialogue straight out of a cheap novel. However, being the pilot of Blue Destiny, Thomas is not allowed to be a newtype, so I'm giving him a specialization instead.
2nd place - Aleksei, 100 RP
1st place - Thomas, Resilient specialization
Also, this was said in the chat, but our trivia winners were:
4th place - Tian, 6 answers
3rd place - Jim, 7 answers
2nd place - Latooni, 8 answers
1st place - Altoh, 14 answers
Hope you all had fun with our trivia and our contests!
