Salamis class "Caratan"
"Overlord huh?" Cato thought to himself as he looked over the Federation Intel gathered on the mining operations Wu Jinyuan was conducting. Such a matter had become almost distressing to the Federation officer in resent weeks. It seemed as if his military career reached one emotional swing after another. One week he was kicking himself over his arrogance and the failure to capture a newtype Zeon pilot, the next he was feeling good about taking part in the destruction of a Zeon patrol in earth's orbit. The inconsistency was dreadfully annoying to him as an officer.
"Glory is always fleeting, but mediocrity is permanent." Cato said aloud as he sifted through the report and begin reading up on the Zeon Expeditionary Fleet. "Mr. Jinyuan you have been a busy boy this week." Cato slouched back in his chair and kicked his feet up on a table in front of him. He studied the layout of the fleet and took note of the Zeon activities in side 5. The automatic door slid open in the far side of the room and closed as the captain of the Caratan entered. Cato rose from his seat and both man exchanged salutes as a form of respect.
"I suppose you heard?" The captain asked as he extended his hand to shake Goloni's. Cato returned a smile as he shook the hand of the captain.
"I pulled a few strings and the Federation seen to it your ship found its way in to service with this fleet." Both men sat down in chairs across from each other. Cato handed the captain the new Intel report on Jinyuan. "We know a little bit more about him than last time. Cato turned and grabbed two shot glasses and placed them in the center of table parallel from the two Federation officers. "The son of a bitch served compulsory service in the nazee military before going off in to the private sector in the colonies." Cato poured a shot of whisky in each glass. Cato quickly snatched up his shot glass and downed the bourbon quickly and slammed the glass back on the table.
He was beginning to find comfort in drinking to relieve the stress of duty.
"So he is a military man?" The captain replied as he drinked his shot. Cato nodded as he poured another two shots.
"The question is, is he more of a military man or a businessman?" Cato leaned back in his chair. Some of the misty haze that surrounded Jinyuan was now begining to fade and a more clearer picture was coming in to full view. He was begining to despise Jinyuan. The image of a shady businessman working with the military was now fading away into the image of a beaurocrat that was forced back into service for grabbing a member of Zabi family's ass. "Pathetic." Cato said to himself
"We'll find out soon enough though." The captain looked up from the report at Cato. "Were gonna meet him head to head soon." Cato smirked as he drinked down his second shot of whisky." He was feeling good about his chances in combat against Jinyuan for the first time. Even if he thought lesser of the man now then he did days earlier he still didn't take him or his fleet lightly. He was going in to this battle with cold collected thoughts and had memorized the plan that was laid out. The captain's eyes widened at the news. "We were going to pay the space nazees a visit and take that Texas colony away from them, but it just so happens this Wu Jinyuan and this Expeditionary Fleet of his was in the neigborhood. We decided we would stop and play with them for a little while and put Texas on hold." Cato smiled.
"We're going in to battle with two damaged ships!" The captain said in a stunned voice. The captain quickly gulped down his shot of whisky. Cato raised his right eyebrow and poured the captain another shot of whisky which was quickly consumed.
"Calm down." Cato said reassuringly. "We got something planned for these nazee bastards so don't make a huge fuss over nothing." Cato drinked his second shot down and then poured himself another shot of whisky. "Just tell your crew to be ready. Isaac should be sending your orders soon." The captain groaned wondering what he got himself into when he asked to be appointed to this fleet. The captain got up from his chair and saluted Cato once more before leaving. Cato downed another glass of whisky. "Irony can be so cruel." Cato thought to himself as he watched electronic door slid shut behind the captain. Cato looked to his side at the corner of the table and looked at the picture of his father.
"What would you do in this situation?" Cato stared at his father's picture. It had been months since he had gazed upon the image of his late father. His father's death at Lourm had provided him with inspiration and a sense of purpose and duty. He felt in was his mission to take what little humanity he had left after his father's death. "With every nazee I kill I feel a little more whole every time." Cato poured himself another shot and held the glass up to his father's picture as if he was toasting with him. "To purpose and vengeance." Cato gulped down his last shot of whisky.
