Sun poured in through the large glass at the front of the bridge, illuminating the steel surfaces as the red emergency lights dimmed in and out. Puddles of water refracted the light, casting patterns of light that seemed to dance across the ceiling. Sand had been pushed up all around the fallen Gaw as it sat amongst the waves while all around it iridescent patterns formed in the surf from the leaking fuel and oil.
SMACK!
A red handprint slowly appeared across the helmsman’s face as he began to rub his cheek. He stared in almost shock at the small girl, in her loose fitting black uniform, as the Schutzstaffel Captain retracted her hand. Marina growled and the TAF helmsman dropped to one knee; he knew better than to cross a Schutzstaffel operative, let alone the girl that was placed in Untersturmfuhrer Brennan’s care. Not only did her own reputation precede her, but the Duchy soldier had heard stories of how Brennan dealt with those that decided they wanted to ignore his Captain.
She glared at the cowering soldier before regaining her composure and marching back to her seat at the back of the damaged bridge. Marina let out a sigh as she looked around at the damage. At least she could take comfort in the water that now surrounded her; oh how she hated flying…
“I want a full damage report as soon as possible. And I need to know how long until they can make emergency repairs and get this damned thing off the ground…” She spoke softly with a slight tone of irritation as she looked at the kneeling helmsman. The young captain blew some hair out of her eyes as she ran her fingers through it, tucking it behind her ear. She sat quietly as the ignorant TAF soldier scurried off, closing her eyes and listening to the waves break against the purple metal hull of the Gaw.
“Oh I’ve missed that sound…” Marina let out a sigh of contentment as she relaxed in the Captain’s chair. Her mind wandered for a few seconds before she opened her eyes slowly. “I wonder where Xavier is...” A slight look of concern appeared in her deep blue eyes as she realized she hadn’t heard from her officer yet.
