I wanted to start a new thread, to keep this organized. This one’s in the officers’ forum instead of the enlisted, so we stay kosher.
Looks like we delivered a fair blow to the 87th last night. Battle was well written, though I’m not sure why we weren’t allowed to deliver the coup de grace.
Today, upon word from Chris, we’re moving ahead with Phase 2. Dragon, Stilva and Excelsior will be attacking New Amsterdam tonight. The PCs involved will be Ando and Aldo. Matthew needs to send in an email to disband the fleet, have Stilva and Excelsior paradrop New Amsterdam, and move the U-88 Baekhesten to the West Arctic. Andrew should send in an email to have the Excelsior paradrop, too, just incase. We don't want this operation to get screwed over by a technicality.
The Enemy
Ships currently located at New Amsterdam: Lleu Llaw Gffyes (L1 Himalaya), Black Hawk (L3 Big Tray), Chicken Little (L5/5 Medea Revised), Gilfaethwy (L5 Hillock). Lleu Llaw Gffyes and Black Hawk have strong compliments of fighters, and a few MS.
The base itself lacks defenses of any kind. However, Nigel Ferdinand has 1053 RP. Additionally, the Black Hawk is owned by Arden Massenfer. He has 450 RP, so could potentially purchase another mobile suit or two.
Suggested Strategy
Day 1 – Wednesday
I suggest a limited airstrike tonight. We can have our three Gaws fly above the cloud cover and deliver bombs on targeted enemy positions. Excelsior gives them zero radar, and the clouds mean zero visual. It also means we can pinpoint bombing targets precisely. Priority should be given to the Big Tray and any MS hangars on the base, since our ground forces will be automatically weaker than theirs during the assault.
Our Dopps can fly a screen of AA. Their fighters and Medea will have to come up through snowstorms to reach us, and they’ll have no clue as to where we are thanks to the lack of radio and no visuals (not to mention communications, so they can’t even relay a trajectory from our bombing). On the other hand, Excelsior will tell us exactly where they’re breaking clouds, meaning our Dopps will have the advantage of surprise.
Day 2 – Thursday
We form a fleet with the Dragon, Stilva, Excelsior, and U-88 Baekhesten.
We attack again, this time beginning a siege. I can’t imagine why we’d do much differently this day than the day before. Continue to bomb them into submission, using U-88 Baekhesten as missile support. If we’re out of bombs on the Gaws, we can use long range missiles. I think our targets should be continued ground force suppression, and the Gilfaethwy and Lleu Llaw Gffyes. They'll be ported in snowy waters, meaning they're sitting ducks.
Day 3 – Monday
With their forces weakened, we should move in for the kill. I’m torn between capturing it and simply destroying it…
Capture means we gain a territory. Territories are awesome. Ando will get an additional +RP *. Plus, since we’re capturing it a day before the weekend starts, we’ll get instant patrols. Christina becomes our bitch if we can hold onto the region long enough for Yuji to come in with his Apsalus II. Additionally, if we capture New Amsterdam, we likely capture Nigel Ferdinand. Jojo is their big planner, from what I’ve heard. Plus… umm… Board passwords, anybody?
Destruction means we have one less base to worry about. We already have Malta on our plate, and we want Belfast within a handful of weeks. It’ll put things back to square one in terms of territory; but we’ll have a plus in terms of having destroyed their fleet and siphoned off a lot of their RP. Destruction is also easier than capture. And a dead Nigel is still better than a live Nigel.
* I think it should be our policy to place all captured bases in the hands of Ando. This will make efforts to pool RP for base defense much easier, since we can ask everybody to simply send all of their paychecks to one person on Mondays, rather than several people.
That’s it for me! I know Chris and Matthew plan to discuss this further, but I wanted to chime in because I won’t be available that much longer, thanks to studying for finals. Aced both exams yesterday, and the week’s almost over!
Good luck, gentlemen!
