Sir William Poe opened the door to the cottage just outside Nice, France with his hand on his leaning on the pistol at his hip. It was something that he had done far too often recently, as the Zeon had recently taken over the southern portions of France. It was the fourth time in the past week that his family along with Thomas and Philip Williams had moved, and hopefully today would be the last.
A man was waiting with a smile behind the door and it brought a wave of relief over Sir Poe as he saw his old friend.
"John, so good to see you again. Its been far too long," said William as he looked at the older man who still had sturdy build despite the years.
"It is always good to see an old friend, I heard about your situation, why didn't you come to me first?" said John with a broad smile on his face.
"I didn't want to trouble you, it wouldn't be fair to put you in a bad situation," admitted William a little sheepishly as he shook John's hand.
"So this must be the brave little boy?" said John with a smile on his face looking at Philip causing the boy to grin at the praise as he clung to the pants of his grandfather.
"Yes, and we need to find a way to get him out of here, its just simply too dangerous now," stated Thomas Williams very bluntly.
"Ah yes, I already have a plan we shall talk about it shortly, but first please make yourself at home. " said John opening his arms to the room offering the warmth of the fire he had already started in the fireplace.

Several hours had passed since the four had arrived at John's house when suddenly a large pounding was heard at the door. Everyone who was inside stopped what they were doing immediately while John slowly made his way to the door. After a few moments John opened the door slowly looking at who was outside the door to reveal two Zeon SS soldiers with an SS officer.
"John Fitzer, how are you doing today? I am Untersturmfuher Brambrink," said the SS Officer as he grinned looking at the man holding the door open.
"Nice to meet you Untersturmfuher, I am doing well, what can I do for you today?" said John as he kept a steady gaze at the officer.
"We just have a few questions for you Mr. Fitzer, would you mind if we came in? It will only take a bit," said the SS Officer still smiling as he returned the gaze to Fitzer.
"That is fine," said John as he opened his door letting the men into his house.
The four slowly made their way to the living wood of the room where there was a small wooden table, with several chairs around it.
"Take a seat," said John inviting the Brambrink to sit at the table.
"Why thank you," said Brambrink as he sat down at the table, "Now I am sure you know why I am here, so please just answer everything the best you can and this won't take very long."
"I would assume this is about William Poe? I saw the warrant for him in the paper," said John as he grabbed a bottle of brandy and poured a glass. "Would you like some?"
"Ah yes, and straight to the point there," said the Brambrink with an evil grin as he reached for the glass of brandy. "How did you orginally know Sir Poe?"
"Our parents were friends growing up, so we spent some time together when we were younger," said John in a somewhat defensive manner.
"Ah, the good old days before this whole war happened," said Brambrink with a slight smile, "So then I assume you know I must ask you if you have seen him recently."
"I haven't seen him many years," said John as he took a slight sip of his brandy.
"Would you like to know my favourite hobby John?" asked Brambrink as sat back in a more relaxed manner in his chair.
"What would that be?" responded John with no curiosity in his voice.
"I love to study history, I just can't get enough of it," said Brambrink as he took a sip of his brandy as well. "This whole region has been such a joy to me, so much history in this area of the world."
"There are many places on earth with lots of history," responded John flatly failing completely at making small talk.
"Ah yes, but one thing caught my eye as I was studying about this area," said Brambrink as he took another sip of the brandy.
"Years ago there was a war here, they called it World War II. It was a massive war, you know if it?" continued Brambrink as he leaned back in his chair again.
"Yes, I have heard of it," said John as he looked for a moment at the other two soldiers who were sitting silently in the room.
"Then I would assume you heard about how the Germans tried to hunt down all of the Jews in Europe, killing them all because everyone felt they weren't inferior. I know some of my own country men feel the same way about everyone from earth, but I believe that men can change wouldn't you say so?" responded Brambrink with a sweet smile as he leaned forward to take another sip of the brandy.
"Yes, I do think people can change," said John with a slight snarl as he knew quite well what Brambrink meant by change.
"You see there is hope for the people of the Earth Federation after the war. We need not kill you all, in fact I have a feeling many of you just need a better education to reach your true potential. The Germans just didn't work hard enough to fix the Jews, that was their mistake," said Brambrink as he continued to smile and talk like he was talking to an old friend.
John tried hard to keep a straight face but the displeasure was quite obvious across his face.
"Oh but I am getting off the point, you see I also learned that while the Germans were searching for the Jews here they had all sorts of problems with little hidden rooms in all of these old houses, places where the Jews could hide like Rats," continued Brambrink, "You know I take a different approach then they did about Rats, I don't like having to try to chase a Rat as it runs across the floor. That is too much effort is it not?"
"Yes," muttered John annoyed about the way this conversation was going.
"You see the Rat can run from hole to hole, always moving slightly faster then you will be able to get it. I would rather do something easier you see?" said Brambrink, "I would rather just remove all the Rat's holes and eventually it will be forced out."
John's eyes began to twitch slightly as he began to understand what Brambrink was saying, as he did so the two SS soldiers moved closer to the fireplace in the room.
"Now if we have already taken care of the Rat we have no need to destroy all of its hiding spots," said Brambrink in a menacing voice despite the fact that he was still quite visibly smiling.
One of the SS soldiers then grabbed a fire pick from beside the fire and began to play with the logs in the fire place.
"So I will ask you one more time, do you know where I can find any Rats?" said Brambrink who then stood up and quickly drank the rest of his brandy.
"They are .." said John, but before he could finish his words a large thumping sound was heard in the floor below the group. Suddenly a William Poe's daughter was seen running across the yard coming out from below the house.
"It seems you have a Rat," said Brambrink as he looked out the window leveling his pistol at the young girl, shortly afterwards a single shot from his pistol struck out sending the girl to a limp pile on the ground.
"You bastard," screamed John right before Brambrink shot the man squarely in the head as well.
"Go get the rest of them before they escape," said Brambrink to the two soldiers who ran quickly out of the door of the cottage.
William was the next to crawl out of the and he immediately ran towards the cover a group of trees, several shots from the window sounded out to which he returned fire, but the hail of bullets was a clear sign to him that was quite out manned and he quickly retreated into the woods beyond the cottage.
Meanwhile Brambrink calmly made his way around the cottage to where Philip was still struggling to get out of the narrow hole out from under the house. Grabbing the boy by the scruff of his shirt, Brambink pulled him out to the shock of Thomas Williams who was still beneath the house.
"You may get out of there on your own Thomas, or you can struggle and we can simply kill Philip," said Brambrink with the still calm look about him.
"I give up," said Thomas frankly as he crawled out from beneath the house.
"Al right, let us go then," said Brambrink as he dragged the screaming Philip to the awaiting car while several SS soldiers guarded Thomas as he crawled out from underneath the house.
