In Aurem's opinion, there had only been good thing about all this stupid snow. And that was that his relationship with Arieta had been somewhat repaired. Other than that, this weather was impossible, made even worse by having become adjusted to the jungle heat of East Asia. Aurem looked forward to the day when he could leave this cursed white wasteland.
This day was evidently coming a lot sooner than expected, Aurem soon discovered reading through his orders that he had just received. "Command" was nothing more than a heavily snow covered tent this far into the arctic and away from the base at New Amsterdam.
As Aurem stepped out of the tent, he found Arieta waiting for him like she used to before Manilla. Arieta managed to look both cheerful and absolutely freezing at the same time. Aurem smiled happy to see things were becoming a littles more normal and a little less awkward, but quickened his pace back toward their pathetic, barely wind-proof tent. He didn't know how long she'd been waiting.
Arieta noticed the orders in his hands. "Hopefully something warmer and more productive than shooting at clouds in there?" She asked pointing to the orders.
"What, you don't like sleeping huddled, back to back for warmth, in a tiny tent in the middle of nowhere?" Aurem teased.
Arieta blushed heavily. "So you can make jokes now? That's a new trick."
Ordinarily, Aurem would probably have just told Arieta to read the orders herself. He still intended to make her do so, but figured she'd be a little happier if he at least attempted to carry the conversation a little further.
"It is a little warmer. We've been assigned to Lieutenant Nigel Ferdinand. Seems command doesn't really know what to do with us." Aurem said as he handed her the orders so she could read.
Arieta was silent for a while as she read the orders. This seemed odd to Aurem. Usually she wanted to hear it from him, not read herself.
Perhaps she is trying to be considerate of me and my general disinterest in talking. How awkward! Aurem thought.
"Oh!" Arieta said suddenly, stopping in her tracks, a little stunned. "I know this place."
"You were born and raised there?" Aurem guessed also stopping and facing her.
Arieta looked up. "How did you know?"
"Personnel files actually contain a lot of information for those that bother to look. I just hadn't bothered until recently. Come on, let's keep moving, or you'll probably freeze to death."
"You just want to cuddle again when we get back to the tent, don't you?" Arieta asked before blushing heavily again, apparently having spoken without thinking.
Even Aurem blushed a little at this. "...Maybe."
