"Nadia, Nadia!"
An enthusiastic auburn haired girl slid back the only door to the compartment that offered its sleeping occupant a sense of privacy. Inside, a recently awaken Nadia Adelaide floated in zero gravity held in place only by a pair of loose straps.
Groaning and rubbing her sleepy eyes, Nadia asked, "What is it?"
"Just wanted to see how you were doing!" exclaimed the GM E pilot, seemingly oblivious to the fact that the older woman had just woken up.
"Ugh, what time is it?" asked the test pilot with a hint of annoyance.
Raising an eyebrow, Alice replied, "Why, it's time to talk to Alice, that's what time it is!"
Already Nadia was unfastening the straps as a sign of submission; it wasn't worth her effort to dissuade the girl's efforts. Her arms searched for something solid to hold onto and she pushed her body out of the sleeping compartment and into the arms of Alice. The sensation was definitely foreign to her and it forced her eyes open for several seconds to examine her immediate surrounding.
Looking up with bloodshot eyes, Nadia asked curtly, "Alice, what are you doing?"
With an innocent smile, she replied, "Nothing, just thought you could use a hug." She heard Nadia let out a discontent sigh and then added, "You know, you've aged really gracefully. I hope the same happens to me."
Normally the test pilot would take this as a compliment, but her rude awakening didn't help very much. "You know I'm only thirty one, right? And besides, what are you trying to get at?"
"Well, the captain wanted to see us in a few minutes, but we're in no hurry. Actually, I wanted to talk to you about something," admitted the younger woman. Nadia remained silent waiting for the girl to spill out her mind. "Rumor has it you were talking with some guy back at Neo Hong Kong!"
"Hah, what is this, the Zeon Enquirer?" retorted Nadia. Certainly the Zeon didn't waste their efforts spying on her rather than on that rogue Federation pilot.
"What? No, no, that's not it. I'm just wondering," Alice defended, looking away for a moment before saying in a more serious tone, "there are other rumors too, you know. About you."
Nadia reached out and grabbed a hold of one of the ledges and turned her back toward the curious girl. After a brief check to make sure the door was closed, Nadia reached down and pulled her nightshirt over her head and tossed the item back into her bunk. Turning around, Nadia observed a pair of eyes fixated on her bare chest, and a deep red blush became readily apparent on the pale skinned girl's face.
"What kind of rumors?" Nadia inquired while slipping on a sports bra. "What could possibly be so interesting about me?"
Alice didn't answer immediately, unsure if it was a good idea to divulge such community secrets and strain relations. Instead, she merely watched as Nadia covered her grey boyshorts with a pair of uniform trousers.
"Um, actually, it's nothing really that big," Alice said nervously. "I'll just, uh, wait for you outside."
The test pilot looked turned around already working the buttons on her blouse and watched Alice walk out of the compartment with a look of confusion. For the few days that Nadia had known her, this was the first time that Alice was reserved about anything. Seriously, how bad could those rumors be? Nadia was more worried about what the new assignment would be, as no doubt that was the only reason she had to report to Kajka for anything at all.
