Okay guys, the next few days are going to be very crucial in terms of the balance of power in the ground campaign. Our actions could very well make or break us, and I believe we are now in a situation complex enough to warrant input from as many people as possible as to what the 9th Fleet should do on Thursday.
Before I lay out our options as I see them, I would like to provide some supplementary information:
Allied Forces
5th Invincible Task Force (South America)
4th Invincible Task Force (South America)
Alain Grace - Repairing 2. (5th Fleet)
Bryce Hollerfelt - Repairing 1. (4th Fleet)
Duncan Keystone - OK. (5th Fleet)
Marko Dresner - OK. (4th Fleet)
Noelle Everett - OK. (South America)
Rhett Paruta - Repairing 1. (South America)
Ferusha Glavadeen - Repairing 2. (5th Fleet)
Persephone Dawn - Repairing 1. (South America)
Ritter Novosad - OK. (5th Fleet)
Enemy Forces
87th Integrated Fleet (North America)
Chicken Little - Lightly Damaged. (Atlantic Ocean)
Vermillion - Damaged. (South America)
Aurem Senaiha - Repairing 1. (87th Fleet)
Cray Vermillion - Repairing 1. (87th Fleet)
Edmund Blackadder - Repairing 4. (87th Fleet)
Jack Murphy - Repairing 3. (87th Fleet)
Jay Tessa - Repairing 2. (87th Fleet)
Seth Yamanu - Injured 1. (87th Fleet)
Zanzen Hosei - Repairing 2. (87th Fleet)
Aaron McCaskey - OK. (87th Fleet)
Jarvis Ackart - Repairing 2. (87th Fleet)
Nigel Ferdinand - OK. (Chicken Little)
Arianna Elvy Saoirse - OK. (Jaburo)
Bigby Wolfe - Repairing 1. (87th Fleet)
Charles Gano - OK. (Pacific Ocean)
Scott Archer - Repairing 2. (Vermillion)
Obviously that is just a broad overview of the forces on both sides, I thought I'd leave the more in-depth to be discussed later.
Here are my thoughts on a few things:
Nigel Ferdinand and Chicken Little
- Last week he was in West Arctic alongside the 87th, primarily in a defensive posture because they assumed we would try to begin a campaign there.
- However, while the 87th moved to North America, Nigel and the Chicken Little moved to Atlantic. What this means to me is that he intends to paradrop us while we are still in South America, and probably as soon as tomorrow.
- Using his Logistics spec and half-priced services, Nigel could potentially purchase 3 x Sniper Support services for 200 RP, leaving him with 892-200=692 RP that he can use to purchase additional forces with.
- Simply put, I believe that this is more than sufficient to finish off the Dragon, which is already Heavily Damaged.
87th Integrated Fleet
- I kind of expected the 87th to move to North America based on a few things (including my own paranoia and Kyle's RP), but it's still an interesting situation.
- The 87th got beat up a little going into North America; their Hillock is now Heavily Damaged, and many of their PCs are currently repairing.
- The 87th is relatively weakly-armed in terms of MS and ground forces, but their significant air and naval presence give them considerable anti-air abilities.
- I am unable, at this time, to predict what the 87th intends to do on Thursday.
- They could, potentially, continue their movements into South America. I don't think this is particularly likely, because if they did want to engage us in South America I doubt they are ballsy enough to beat themselves up going through North America to get there.
- They could also perform a Patrol action and attempt to cut off our retreat into North America, but they face the danger of us recombining into a huge fleet once more. I don't think they want a head-to-head confrontation with us at the moment.
- The 87th inexplicably contains 4 x Medea that are virtually empty, and 3 of them are owned by Nigel Ferdinand. It is possible that Nigel will separate them from the 87th tomorrow and paradrop with them as well.
Strikey / Scott Archer / The Interloper
- The location of his ship is South America (fucked).
- We should (imo) capitalize on this and jack him up.
Dragon
- It took some damage last night, and is currently listed as Heavily Damaged.
- I would like to do whatever possible to save this ship, mostly because it's a Gaw (and therefore one of the most powerful units on our side).
With those things in mind, here are my proposals (in brief):
Offensive Maneuvering
- This strategy would mostly consist of everyone in South America (both PCs on fleets and not on fleets) grouping up once more.
- The fleets would recombine, and push into North America to pursue an immediate encounter with the 87th Integrated Fleet.
- Not sure what else to say about this, it's fairly straightforward and by my own admission probably the safest thing to do.
Defensive Maneuvering
- This strategy involves setting up a defensive position in South America to protect ourselves and figure out what the EFGF plans on doing.
- The two fleets would be adjusted in the following manner:
- Fleet A) Dragon, Swiss Miss, Sammy.
- Fleet B) Stilva, Liger, Schmerz.
- Fleet A would remain stationary, and the two Samsons would repair Dragon. Because the repairs occur concurrently and stack, Dragon would go from Heavily Damaged to Lightly Damaged if all goes to plan.
- Fleet B would engage in a Patrol action in South America. The idea behind this is to catch any Paradrops into the region, and catch them by surprise. According to my math, an 11 or higher would need to be rolled, which is a chance of success slightly below 50%.
- Additionally, a PC who isn't repairing (probably Noelle Everett) would ambush Vermillion and attempt to finish him.
- This is the plan I am leaning towards at the moment; it is a gamble, but I think we stand to gain the most if it DOES work by doing this.
- However, there are a few problems that should be noted about it:
- Problem 1) Repair actions are canceled if the unit being repaired (or the units doing the repairs) are attacked.
- Problem 2) Multiple paradrops into the regions could bypass our Patrol, or we could roll lower than an 11.
- Problem 3) If the 87th continues moving into South America, we could potentially be facing a tougher fight on Friday. We would theoretically be weaker, their status would stay the same, and we would be fighting in Enemy Territory. All three of these factors would contribute to what could become a very, very ugly fight.
Mixed Maneuvering
- This is just what it sounds like, a mixture of the techniques described above.
- One thing I had thought of, was doing the fleet split similar to how it would be conducted under the Defensive Maneuvering, with the key difference being that Fleet B (our combat corps) would move into North America and prepare to engage the 87th, to be joined by a paradropping Dragon on Friday.
- Dan and Draco have both mentioned possibly paradropping the 87th tomorrow with our air forces, and attempting to steal the Gofannon. It is a Big Tray with no infantry, and could (hypothetically) be stolen.
Okay, that's it from me for now.
