Hey guys,
Since I am staff and Ketara's bff (HAHA, we touch each other) I feel I need to address this.
I've worked myself into a fervor so here goes!
DISCLAIMER: If you are a Chan, then you probably don't need to read this. Anyone who is Chan or very Chan-like, in that you are like a teddy bear and never complain about anything, then please disregard this.
Recently there has been a lot of complaining (yes, the irony of someone complaining about complaining--read on) regarding damages, rules, and the outcome of battles/events. This happens in every game no matter how perfect it is, so to try to eradicate it completely is sort of counterproductive. Regardless, it shouldn't be happening this often.
A lot of players have been downright jackasses lately and it's completely and utterly confounding. Why would anyone who gets a game of this magnitude for FREE ever get so angry/accusatory/frothy/belligerent/etc if things don't go their way? I surely get angry over minute things (that's who I am), be it Anastasia or the 4chan conventions we have in the chat. But, when it comes down to the GIFTS people give me, I don't shit on them and throw them back at the sender and tell them how unhappy I am that they thought of me and took the time to give me a gift (run-on).
Well, I've been making a few conclusions and here's what I've discovered. The people who seem to be taking the game way too seriously are generally the ones not RPing, writing battles, or putting much of anything into the game. There are a few outliers, but for the most part this select few has really nothing invested in the game. Which leads me to believe they're in it for ALL the wrong reasons.
These people seem to be putting too much emphasis on the outcomes of battles rather than the writing they do on the boards or the amount of time they invest in their character. They want MOBILE SUITS and SHIPS and PEW EPW PEW PEW. Well, guess what? Guess what the first two fucking words of this game are? ROLE-PLAYING. Most of you are sim-chambering it up right now and it makes me angry. I do not suppose that I am the best at these things, but at least I am trying to do what the game entails. And if you're just some nameless douchetard, then you MAY be ruining it for others.
Anyway, so you get angry when the things you've been planning out for millenia don't go your way. Which, as I can relate, is very, very aggravating. But do you know what I do instead of passive aggressive comments to Ketara or ragequit or emoness? I just turn to my trusty Gray and say, "that really sucked. I am angry. Let me go cool off. I think I am feeling an emo coming on." And I go read a fucking shitty book or chase the cat. We all need a trusty Gray. WHERE IS HE.
Because, in reality, that's all that needs to be done. If you can't manage that, then a ragequit might be in order. Ask Berrik about that one.
I ALSO know that Ketara can be a pretty PRUDENT administrator. And by that I mean he can be pretty blatant and forthcoming with what he wants. Sometimes it's hard not to take it personally when he thinks everything you do is complete and utter shit. BUT, in truth, he really loves us and appreciates our work. It's just, when his personal life becomes more important than the silly game he runs, we have to keep our cool when he cannot.
This came off pretty preachy and for that I am sorry. In the past, I have been guilty of taking online games far too seriously (MIGHT BE TAKING IT A LITTLE SERIOUS NOW, IN FACT), but I'd like to think I've MATURED a little and learned that it's just a game.
HAVE I MATURED, GUYS?
What I hope to accomplish with this thread:
1. Direct all your emo anger at me instead of other parties.
2. Make fun of you all.
3. Assert myself as better than everyone else.
4. CHANGE.
So, if you have REAL grievances and wish to exploit this opportunity, go ahead. You can post anything in this thread as long as it doesn't derail from its seriousness or stray from my main points. If you want to complain about rules, outcomes, anything game-related, you can.
But as a wise man once said, "don't be a jackass."
