Okay!
I figured it was time to get discussion going again on ZGMF objectives since there's been a dearth of that lately. We've had a string of victories lately, and I think if we play our cards right we can secure two very important objectives by the end of Week 13: Europe and East Asia.
Thoughts
- The destruction of New Amsterdam demonstrated / reinforced two things to me: the power of orbital drops, and how key weather systems (at least Snowstorms) are at protecting orbital drops in lieu of overwhelming ground support. Thus, if things go according to (at least my) plan, and we are able to simultaneously besiege one or both of Belfast and New Delhi, with Draco/Shooting Star/Apsalus II standing by to support either from Orbit, we should keep these things in mind when evaluating which target would be better suited for the Paruta Maneuver.
Summary - When lacking the overwhelming ground support to suppress enemy snipers, deconstruct weather / territory advantages to ensure successful orbital deployment of anti-fortress weapons.
- Chris mentioned in chat that we could possibly build the long-awaited "bridge" between hemispheres of control through West Arctic, instead of the Atlantic. Admittedly, I had been too preoccupied with Belfast and Europe to consider this possibility, and kudos to Chris for bringing it up. After looking into it a little though (in retrospect, since we've made preparations to buy another combat vessel), it is just a little bit more of an investment than I am willing to make at the moment. It would cost 1175 RP to rebuild New Amsterdam into a Fortress for infrastructure alone, without defensive units to protect it. While I am interested in pursuing a bridge of some kind to directly link our forces, I feel this objective can be postponed until more pressing matters are addressed.
Summary - Great idea, Chris! I wish I had taken more time to evaluate it earlier, but for the moment I think it's probably best to move forward with our plans for Belfast and New Delhi.
- The EFGF will be unable to move forces into East Asia in time to stop the SEA HQ attack, so assuming things go well that installation should be taken care of.
- Chris and I have talked about this in the chat some, but I think our next movements should be based towards securing Europe and East Asia as Friendly Territory. The EFGF seems to be divided and (if aleksei is any indication) lacking in unit cohesion (oh u, sound bytes). I'd like to keep them this way, so if possible I think we should besiege both Belfast and New Delhi simultaneously, with Shooting Star and Apsalus II stationed in orbit to assist with either effort. Obviously, the sieges would longer than the New Amsterdam one (lewl), but if we could get even one region to fall (or both at once)....mmm. Probably, we could begin both sieges as early as the end of next week (Week 13), with a target end date of 5 days hence (end of Week 14).
Summary - EFGF is on the run, let's keep them that way. Advise simultaneous use of all personnel and vessels to begin dual-sieges on Belfast and New Delhi, beginning in Week 13 and ending in Week 14.
- Regardless of whether or not we choose to begin simultaneous sieges as I described above, Chris and I agree that the Jukon II's need to be involved with the Belfast effort. We have come to the conclusion that if we did try to attack both installations at once, it would be best if we "switched roles" a bit. Belfast is a Coastal / Urban Fortress, making his Jukons more effective there than at New Delhi (Urban Fortress). In such a scenario, G-Force (supported by probably one more Dobday, a Gallop, and more artillery MS) could besiege New Delhi, while STFU would take care of Belfast.
- Becoming increasingly distracted, but I'll try to finish this up before I lose my train of thought completely. The AU truck fleet is still in West Arctic, and for the short-term we are trying to get in contact with Andrew so that he can edit his purchases for today and paradrop them. For a more long-term way of dealing with the AU, I'm going to try to get up a thread on the Command board tonight about an interesting idea that I had (that is possibly stealing from Chris some, I have no idea!).
- With regards to the recent Promotion Discussions thread, I think for the indefinite future I would like to continue expanding the role of the Officer Candidates (specifically Draco), because I think it makes the game more fun for everyone involved and it has allowed me personally to better-grasp what being an officer in this game should really be like. I fully support this quote from Dan:
Anyway, that's all from me for now. I'll edit this post a little later with day-by-day stuff, if that's okay, just to make everything more concise. For the moment, though, I'll just wait for the discussion to pick up a little before I chime in again.

I fully support this quote from Dan:
The problem I see with officers on this board reaching high command is the attitude planning takes in the game most of the time. Things like launching marines in missiles, finding loopholes in rules, and deploying gimmicks in battles aren't really something I would ever thing of happening in the military's higher ranks. The blend between real tactical battle fronts and the way most players perform in this game just isn't laid out in a way most officers evolve into since the officers in this game tend not to use a command ladder but instead an monarchy if I were to put a name to it.
"High Command" material if you ask me wouldn't have people emailing saying "follow my plan" like I've seen 98% of the events do. They would be the think-tank dividing up the forces into three attack forces during the attack, assigning PCs they deem competent to lead those into battle, and they would issue the plan of attack and formation. But then again this is a game and stuff like that wouldn't be likely to play out.
It matters little since I still don't see the 'Officer' attitude working as a 'high officer.'
