Hey guys--
So, Valentine's Day has come and gone, but all of those various contests are still in effect. To this end, I'd really like to encourage everyone to try and make an RP post to be considered for the RP contest. There haven't been a lot of Feddies winning these contests in the past or getting tons of commendations from roleplaying, judging by who Ket included in the so-called top tier... So let's change that!
Of course, roleplaying can be time consuming and most of us don't really have time to sit around and construct epic, Proustian dramas. That's okay--even short RPs can be incredibly effective and rewarding. Maybe more so than a longer one--the shorter you can make your message, the less diffuse the effect ultimately becomes. On the other hand, if you go out of your way to make your RP horrifically long, you run the risk of making them banal, like that guy in AE who would RP going to the bathroom and shit like that, but totally sincerely and unironically. Don't be that guy. (does anyone else remember that guy? Fuck, I hate that guy. It's been ten years but I still hate that guy)
Maybe you're stumped about what might make for an interesting roleplay--fair enough. My suggestion is to give your character some sort of problem to work through--we've all already made profiles and we all have more or less clear ideas of who our characters are, so all you have to do is figure out how your character would work through that problem. As long as the problem is interesting (along the lines of "I have no will to fight or live" rather than "I have really terrible BO"), your RP will be interesting.
There are already a bunch of Feddie RPs up, and this delights me, but it'd be great if everyone tried at least something--that's not really realistic at any given time, of course, but it'd be pretty sweet to kick the Zeeks in the teeth on the RP front right before we drive up to Odessa and leave a big pile of flaming dog poop on their door step (and then, you know, invade).
As a final note, Ket is always happy and willing to give you advice about roleplaying, as well as let you know whatever guidelines he might have about what can and cannot be represented in roleplays, so check with him if you need anything. If you just say cocks enough times, he'll get excited and answer your questions enthusiastically.
