Emil sat inside of his Rick Dom for a while, thinking. Before the battle he had docked with Lucifer's Fury, and now, after it, he was back there, in the hangar. He still couldn't stop thinking about Miss Arronax, who had recently passed away during battle. He realized that he probably shouldn't think about it too much, but he couldn't stop himself. Finally exiting his mobile suit, he gave the mechanic a quick nod, one that almost seemed to yell "I didn't see any action, but could you check on it anyway?". After stretching for a while, he looks around trying to find someone else to talk to. Or possibly something to drink.
He'd heard that drinking lots of alcohol usually makes you get over things easier. However, he didn't think they kept stuff like that on military ships, so he'd have to do something else. After a little while he managed to find the giant machine that the little boy Florian Cuyler piloted. There was a ton of personnel around the machine, so Emil wasn't sure how to reach him..
"Guess they want their aces alive, huh?"
Shrugging before he leaned towards the wall, staring at the chaos as the mechanics did what they could in order to save the mechanical giants and the ones piloting them.

It took awhile before Florian was no longer seeing stars. His head still felt like it was on the wrong end of a turret, though. The pressures from outside the cockpit seemed incessantly loud, which was new. Normally, they were tolerable, at least. He wanted to linger, but Lilja was a woman who prided herself on punctuality, and spared no effort to impose such principles on her charge.
Without a second thought to that, he opened the cockpit door, and wordlessly struggled through the throngs of people crowding it. Lilja was not among them. She was probably waiting for the hangar to re pressurize before coming to get him. He wished it would be faster - the sporadically bright lights of the area were doing his head no favours. Florian made his way down towards the bottom and let himself rest in the relative darkness of his Mobile suit's shadow. It didn't hurt as much down here.
At the same time, they did nothing to dispel the uneasy feelings in the boy's gut. One, a lingering remnant of the pressure outside, and the other....far more melancholic- Similar to how he felt the ever present morass of death, but somehow far more personal...
It didn't matter.

Leaning up against the wall, Emil had quite a good view of the area around the hangar. He looked around, trying to find a familiar face. Suddenly, he could've sworn he saw someone he recognized. Namely, Rachel Arronax. However, that couldn't be possible. And he tried telling himself that. But, once more, he saw her. And again. Before he knew it, the entire hangar seemed to be full of her. That's it. I must be insane. he thought to himself. However, in the middle of all the Arronaxes, he saw a different face, that of Florian Cuyler, the little pilot of the white Dom-like machine. He hurried toward him, trying to get his attention.
"Hey Florian! Heeeeeeey!"
However, once Emil came close to him, he noticed that something seemed.. off about Florian. He couldn't really put his finger on it, but he seemed to act differently, at least. Either way, he tried once more to get his attention.
"Hey Florian, what's up?"

Emil was his name. Right.
Lilja would disapprove of him fraternizing, but a niggle at the back of Florian's mind said it would be rude to snub the other pilot. He lifted one hand in a greeting, rubbing at his eyes with the other. The headaches concentrated behind and between his eyes.
There was still a cottony feeling in his mouth, and looking at Emil, the melancholic feeling in his gut seemed to intensify. Like there was a faint pressure to the boy - not quite normal, but not as intense as Liljas, or as loud as the one outside had been. Kind of like he had a dissipating shadow. It was weird.

Emil wasn't sure why, but Florian was acting very odd today. He was starting to get worried, so he tried talking to him a bit more.
"Hey, what's wrong, Florian? Did I do something wrong?"
He had a bad feeling about this whole thing, but he needed to know why Florian, one of the few people on this ship that actually talked to him, was acting like this.
"If I did anything wrong, I'm really sorry, okay? Please don't act like this.." He said, with a sad expression on his face.

Florian blinked sleepily at Emil. He was a little bit dumbfounded, actually.
He shook his head and let a small smile tug at the corners of his lips briefly. The other had not offended him. Lethargically, he pushed the palms of his hands together and tucked them under his head, miming sleep. It was the universal gesture for "tired."
A shadow seemed to sneak up behind Emil, which, seconds later, revealed itself to be the figure of one Lilja Andersson. Florian uncurled himself and stood as best he could in her presence. He looked at his shoes.

When Emil saw Florian do the sign that meant he was tired, he got quite relieved.
"Thank goodness.."
He smiled again, knowing that Florian didn't hate him, after all. He was surprised when Florian suddenly stood up tall, rather than almost curling himself into a ball while standing up.. He tried to find out why.
"Florian? What's wrong?"
Florian didn't seem to say, or rather, show anything, he only stood there, looking at his feet. Emil figured something was up, so he looked around a little. He was surprised to notice a woman standing next to him, and almost jumped out of his boots before suddenly yelling at her.
"Who are you!?"

The woman stared at the young man as Florian made his way to stand behind her. She seemed completely unphased by his yelling, letting her icy blue eyes bore into him.
"I'm his handler, and I would thank you not to speak to me so informally, boy."
To Florian she turned, looking him up and down and assessing his state. "Infirmary," she said shortly, pointing towards the way out. Florian nodded his assent and took off towards the door, only offering Emil a short wave over his shoulder.

Who is this woman? Emil Myberg thought to himself as she stared right at him with her cold eyes, sending chills down his spine. Whoever she is.. she seems pretty frightening.. I'd better try to not get on her bad side. he thought to himself.
"Ah, I'm sorry, ma'am. I was just a bit surprised to find you right next to me all of a sudden."
He thought to himself a bit, once more. Handler? I wonder what that means.. Florian doesn't seem like someone that needs any help.. He figured he should try to ask her a bit more about it.
"Handler, huh? So.. you're Florian's big sister?"
Emil saw Florian leave in the corner of his eye, but he didn't dare take his eyes off of the woman standing before him, so he wasn't really able to give him much of a goodbye, other than a little wave of his hand.

Lilja didn't answer right away. She watched Florian's retreating back out of the side of her eyes. She held her silence until the boy was out of conversational earshot, then turned her icy stare back on Emil. The movements of her head had sent her long hair pooling around her like some unholy aura.
"...You could say as much. I'd appreciate you not pry. The matter is a sensitive one."
She paused there and turned to leave, but an afterthought made her look over her shoulder at him. "You wouldn't want to know the result of knowing too much, after all."

Who the hell does this woman think she is, anyway?! Emil thought to himself. He wasn't sure why he was acting like this, but his mood has changed a bit since.. she.. passed away. However, Emil felt that, if he let this woman take Florian away, he might lose him forever. And he doesn't want to lose anyone else again. With fire in his eyes, he managed to stare right back at her, almost managing to keep himself from being scared of her. He gave her a stern reply.
"And what if I do want to pry? Florian is my friend, hell, he's possibly the only person on this ship that seems like he actually enjoys speaking to me, not just trying to avoid it. So, if you think I'll let some rude woman take him away, I'd say you're completely crazy."
He grabbed onto her shoulder, trying his best to hold her back from leaving, and kept talking to her.
"And.. and.."
He quickly wiped his face with his free arm.
"And how do I even know that you're his "handler" and not just some crazy kidnapper trying to take him away from me?!"

Lilja slapped his hand off as soon as she'd registered the touch, turning again to face the young man. There was a red insignia on her lapel that was identical to the one Florian wore. In addition, she pulled out a small badge, not that she thought it would mean much to the blond.
"Florian is a very special little boy. He is also extremely valuable to the war effort, and to Lady Kycillia. Certainly more valuable than one such as yourself," she hissed in response. "And given how little you seem to know about him, could you really be called 'friend?'"
Towards the exit of the hangar, Florian had stopped, waiting silently and passively for his handler to follow.

Her behavior got Emil even madder. He yelled at her for a while.
"Of course I know he's important! I've seen him out there on the battlefield!"
Emil stared at the woman with anger in his eyes. He was still a bit afraid, but he knew that he should try not to show it, so he kept going before he had any chance to stop and think things over.
"So what if you're some kind of fancy officer? So what if Florian's some kind of special little boy? So what if I don't know anything about him?"
He kept staring at her.
"Are you telling me he doesn't deserve friends?! He's still just a little boy, damnit!"

Lilja floated a bit closer to Emil, towering over him thanks to her placement along the 'y' axis of space relative to him. "I'm telling you he has more important matters. I'm telling you that saying the wrong thing to him - even hinting at the wrong thing to him - will destroy something that many people have worked a very very long time to accomplish. Nor would it be good for your own health. That boy has put grown men in infirmaries."
She pulled back then, the slight momentum from her muscles letting her drift away. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I must take him to the infirmary." Once again, she turned to leave.

Emil bit his lip in anger as the woman was leaving. He knew that he had to protect Florian, since he knew what it is like. He HAS to protect one person, at least. He can't let what happened to him happen again, that someone like Florian would be "discarded" as soon as their use is nil. He thought about it rationally for a while, and the only logical conclusion he could think of is to follow the woman into the infirmary, in order to stop her from doing some sort of evil deed to the little boy. I have to protect him, I have to! he thought as he was sneaking not too far behind the dark-haired woman and Florian. He wasn't very good at sneaking, but he tried his best, and he was somewhat optimistic, thinking that he didn't get noticed even once.
The woman got the little boy to enter the infirmary, and she shortly followed after. The door zipped shut, and Emil sat outside, waiting. A few minutes after the others had entered he decided to open the door and try to sneak inside, hiding next to a cabinet close to the door.
