The night was cold and dark. David struggled to keep the meat in his stomach from his earlier kill. Foxes made good call signs, bad midnight snacks. A string of little fox tails was tied to his bandoleer.
- Earlier -
He struggled to kill them.. not that it was difficult. It was easy enough. He took out what rations he had left on him, and set them out. Bait the fox, kill it. Simple, right?
A large, sickly looking one crawled out of the shadows. It bent down to eat - this was the time. Then, the fox grabbed the ration can and began to drag it with a determined effort. This confused him. He was hungry, what made this pathetic creature any less animalistic? Where would he take such a small can? Admittedly, he didn't know much about earth creatures. He was always more comfortable in space. He remembered playing with a basket of puppies with his mother in Zum City when he was young. Younger, anyway. And that's when he heard them..
A litter of fox cubs, stashed under a bush. It wasn't a sick male, it was a starving mother. They came rolling, yapping, and stumbling over to the food. Lapping up the ration with ravenous hunger, it was as if you dropped a kilo of cocaine on Cima Garahau's lap. He wondered how long they had been stuck out here. It was a red fox, not a desert one. But why would there be red foxes near Zona Rosa? Or in Africa for that matter? He'd worry about that later. He still had a stomach to feed.
With a sharpened palm leaf stem, he lashed out with militant discipline at the young mother. She never saw it coming. None of them did.
