For Jojo and other EFGF Officers, I’ll try to lay out the general strategy I have for the engagement. Details can be worked out later.
This will be broken into six categories to make it easier to follow: Naval Group, North Group, Central Group, South Group, 42nd Brigade and 87th Independent.
Naval Group: Consists of Himalaya group starting in N15. This group will advance north-north west towards Odessa proper. Air units, led by Amy Bauer-Meister will engage enemy air group which I predict will be some combination of enemy Dopps and Gaws. In the event that air superiority is achieved, aircraft will proceed to bomb Odessa while naval units approach the shore in order to begin bombardment. Aquatic MS may attempt an amphibious assault if conditions are favorable.
The Everest Montanna in the bay to the southeast will be bombarding the enemy base while the Hillock is there to provide defense for the Everest as well as possibly assisting the defense of the Sir. Francis Drake from a land based assault.
North Group: Consists of Bhatan (B) and Venus (D). This is a heavy assault group and one of our main attack groups led by our admirals that will advance towards H3 and attack the enemy trench from the northwest. This group also contains two MS groups including the Invincible third to add to its firepower. The Bhatan will participate in the advance on the enemy position while the Venus stays back to bombard, target TBD. After the enemy forces around the trench are neutralized, this group will proceed southeast into the enemy base taking a route that will bring them through J4.
Central Group: Consists of Jupiter (E), Excelsior (F), and Sir Francis Drake (A). This group’s task will mainly be bombardment of the enemy base. Air units in this group will mainly be concerned with protecting allied units on the western half of the battlefield from enemy air forces. Should unquestioned air superiority be obtained, allied aircraft will proceed to bomb the enemy base. MS in this group will mostly be concerned with protecting the allied Big Trays. I would have one group protect Venus/Excelsior and the other protect Jupiter/Francis Drake. The tanks from the Sir. Francis Drake will be joining South Group.
South Group: Consists of Tyrant (G). This group consisting of tanks and infantry will form a lighter southern strike force that will advance on J9 in an attempt to secure the bridge there crossing the river from west-east. The Big Tray Tyrant will participate in this advance. In the event that the bridge is secured the group proceeds onto Odessa. MS from the 42nd Brigade as well as the tank unit from the Sir. Francis Drake will be reinforcing this group. This is not our main strike force and I do not expect it to accomplish much but it’s main purpose is to force the enemy to commit units to the south, helping to open up the much stronger attacks coming from the north.
42nd Brigade: Will be paradropping in from the south of the map (I15 ?) Individual Medeas will break away from the fleet on assigned paradrops. Majority of MS including GM Blue Destiny and the GM S will be going to assist the South Group in its assault on J9. Possible drop locations being Aurem will meet up with Revil and snipe from the Sir. Francis Drake. Hirsch Munchek and Charles Gano will be dropped near the Naval Group to assist with aquatic defense. Scott Archer will meet up with the air wing from the naval group and begin hunting enemy Gaws. Jim Irwin and 42nd air units will provide an escort for the Medeas paradropping units into the southwest.
87th Integrated Fleet: Will come into the battle on turn 1 in the northeast corner of the map. I am anticipating that we will have four Big Trays and 3-4 Medeas. This group will move south down through the Isthmus. Two Big Trays will stay back and bombard while the other two assist with the advance. In anticipation of strong resistance because of the loss of maneuver in the narrow terrain, I would also like the Medeas to paradrop units into K2 that will then move south to help widen the front on the isthmus.
Summary of Strategy:
The main push will be in the north made by the North Group and the 87th Integrated. The goal is for these forces to eventually link up in K4-K5 area and then move south. South Group’s attack is mainly a diversionary movement to keep the Zeon forces from placing all their emphasis on the north. Artillery fire from Central Group in the west should help to prevent the Zeon defenders from shifting all their artillery to cover the north. I am fairly confident that the naval group should eventually be able to win air superiority. Once this occurs, Odessa will be vulnerable to bombing from the air as well as naval bombardment from the south east. I would suggest that our 3 services should all be artillery supports to maximize our ability to hammer the zeon defenses.
Tentative PC actions will be in a following post.
