Pre-Odessa
"I want you to stay behind." The officer said, standing before the chief mechanic next to the mobile suit and the small supply trucks fleeing from Lhasa. Around him were various other Mobile Suits in his team, standing guard. "It's too dangerous. I've arranged for a transport to take you somewhere safe until the battle is over, Akane."
The awkward silence that followed was murderous, her eyes half-glazed, looking away from him and up at the mobile suit. After Akane had hijacked one of the squads Dom's and taken it out into combat Marko had worried about her, worried that she might do something stupid like that again. If he could save at least one life, he would do it.
"Don't worry about the Dowdage..." Marko said, giving a smirk as he waved his hand at her "You'll need the rest anyways, God knows you'll need all your strength to fix this thing after this." The girl rushed forward, throwing her arms about the officer in a sudden and surprising hug. Other soldiers tried not to stare, some coughed, others walked away "Stay Safe." The mechanic whispered into his ear, pulling away from the pilot "And if break that machine I'll kill you my self."
In Odessa..
Odessa. It seemed like such a long time ago that Marko and Akane said their good-byes and the climatic battle loomed on the horizon. He had heard reports that they had lost ground all across the board, command was in disarray and one of their own had apparently defected during one of the battles. As it stood, Zeon faced insurmountable odds stacked against them and they were expected to hold, to hold or die trying.
Lord Garma arrived in person, though he and Marko had not exchanged words since the officer helped protect the young Zabi during his operation in Seattle. The trenches were miserable and Marko was glad he wasn't in them, the threat of the Federation loomed in the distance, staring them all down. Even if the base fell, even if they all died, they would make the federation fight for the ground. They would stop them here, at Odessa, they would make them pay for every inch of soil in their blood.
"You did the right thing, leavin' that girl behind." Price said, his English accent carrying through the communication line, the two Dom's were huddled up close to their Squad Commander, while another pilot stood silent in the distance. Joshua, Marko, and Maria were stuck with someone they didn't even know for the duration of the operation, and he and Naomi had been separated in their deployment. Maria just snorted, chuckling at the words.
"I'm just happy the commander finally grew a pair." Maria commented, laughing more. The lieutenants attitude had definitely changed after everything that had happened. He was still determined to save lives, but he was equally determined to make the Federation pay for the losses they had inflicted upon him. He'd lost his best friend, a woman he'd cared deeply for, and countless other soldiers and for what?
"Oh shove it Berelli." Marko finally chimed in to the conversation, unable to keep him self from giving a small chuckle. He leaned back into his cockpit and sighed "We're in for a long haul. We need to stay focused." Despite how he felt inside, Marko did have an image to uphold has a superior officer. All things considered the squad was lucky to even still exist, though they'd lost friends both Maria and Marko had survived impossible odds and made it this far into the war. It was really a feat to behold.
"Yea don't worry Lieutenant, we'll make those Feddie bastards pay." Maria was her usual, fiery self something which Marko was rather unsure was good or bad, all things considered. The Operation would begin soon, or at least that was what the rumor mill had said but Marko had not received any orders and by now Akane was tucked away in Zeon territory somewhere, far away from the battle. Something that Marko half-regretted, considering as the mechanics at Odessa just didn't seem to be as adept at their jobs as Akane had, but that could have always just been personal bias.
