Another week, another letter; sometimes even two and those are the weeks she enjoyed most. She always received a letter from Jae; Sahra’s letters were less consistent but still just as welcome. This week however brought her the most unexpected surprise of all; a letter from her father. Arianna’s eyes were wide, each green orb containing a mix of shock, fear and awe. “Why would daddy send me anything?” She mused out loudly, holding the envelope up towards the light in the hopes of catching a glimpse of the lettering or even more optimistically, as if the purpose of the letter would be revealed. ‘You shouldn’t be all that surprised though, you did just send a letter home describing your impending deployment… the biggest you will see to date..’[/b] She paused, a chill running down her spine…
Internally, her mind struggled with the sort of information her father’s letter could contain, though her basic instinct lead her to believe it was bad. Caine Saoirse, was a man of few words and usually would only communicate if something was going badly… or if he was disappointed. Otherwise, his countenance was always jovial, especially towards herself or Jae.
Groaning in frustration, she raised a hand to rub at the back of her neck. “Let’s see… need to get my mind off of this letter for a while. So let’s meander…” Just about everyone in the 42nd was getting ready for their deployments, in some fashion. Some would choose to stay busy, others to just relax, some would gather together in a show of camaraderie while others would remain to themselves. She was of the latter choice but that didn’t curb her curiosity much as she found herself wandering around the area the 42nd had come to occupy, just idly observing all around her. She caught of glimpse of a group of mechanics working on some Mobile Suits, soon remembering that she left her journal in the GM S.
Arianna strolled to area her MS was in, ascended quickly into the cockpit, looking for and soon grabbing her journal from inside. She carefully placed her father’s letter inside the journal and made her way back down, glancing back to her GM S before walking off to find the rest of her things. When she first became a test pilot, she had decided the journal would go with her everywhere. She wanted to chronicle everything, not let a moment pass if she could help it. This trip would be different, she wanted the journal to remain behind with the rest of her personal items she had with her.
She had settled in a relatively quiet spot, legs tucked under her as she placed the journal in her lap and held the envelope in her hands. Swallowing hard, she ripped the envelope and brought the very neatly folded, two page letter to eye level and began to quickly skim over the text. “Hmmm, strange…” She sighed, relieved that the letter didn’t contain any indication of misfortune. Instead the letter seemed highly formal, which puzzled her even more… “I just wanted to inform you that I’ve gotten word from a highly reputable source that Private…..” Her voice grew quiet as she continued to read out loud, her eyes growing wide as she inhaled sharply. “Hollerfelt is alive and well, now enlisted with the Earth Federation and participating in their current deployment...”
“….Private Bryce Hollerfelt….” She stared at the words, reading them again and again before taking a deep breath. “He’s… alive.” She sounded uncertain of this, despite having read it. 'He successfully managed to escape from the Hildolfr and then left Zeon... Just like...'[/b] Her voice trailed off as she then glanced to his wristwatch, tears welling up in her eyes before she quickly wiped them away. Hurriedly, she tried to regain her composure, flipping the letter over and examining the pages for counterfeit or tampering. "A 'highly' reputable source, hm?" She had no idea who this reputable source was but she did know that her father couldn’t possibly lie to her… He couldn’t be so cruel, could he?
