FeydWhat kind of stuff? Cleanup of Zeon forces on earth? RP generation for transfer to space? I am curious. And getting back to Flession's suggestions, I've taken the liberty of listing everyone in his suggested groups with their machines and skill levels. Those who've expressed interest or promise in being group leaders have been marked in blue. The only changes I made to Flession's groups was to switch Kyle and Bryce, since Bryce will want to be with Arianna. I'll copy this list to the first post in this thread. As changes happen (RP requests, moving to space, etc.), I will update that listing. Hit 'n' Runners: 428VP Jim Irwin: Tin Cod, 131VP Edmund Blackadder: GMPGT, 68VP Scott Archer: Core Booster, 82VP Arianna Elvy Saoirse: GM S Type, 70VP Bryce Hollerfelt: Land Combat Type GM, 77VP Hydro Thunder: 310VP Nigel Ferdinand: Captain of the LLG and 42nd, 101VP Hirsch Munchek: Waterproof Gundam, 117VP Thierry Mersault: Guncannon Harbor Defense Type, 36VP Charles Gano: Aqua GM, 56VP Blow Shit Up: 480VP Aurem Senaiha: GM Ground Sniper, 127VP Jack Murphy: Guntank MPT, 118VP Bigby Wolfe: GM Desert Type, 109VP Kyle Slater: EZ-8, 49VP Aaron McCaskey: GM Land Combat Type, 77VP Ambushmen: 390VP Jarvis Ackart: GM Command, 124VP Thorvald Siggurdson: Blue Destiny, 114VP (144 Marion) Seth Yamanu: Lvl. 6 Infantry, 111CP Thomas Parks: GM Cold Climate Type, 41VP Ungrouped:Cray Vermillion: Type 61, 114VP

Lists were a good start, but I also disagree completely with putting all of our long range/artillery into one unit and nothing into the others.. Having PC group that focuses heavily on one thing was the key (You ever hear of Artillery Divisions?). That's why communication and planning is important. So, if you need a hit-n-run with artillery strikes in the background, you either go buy a NPC Guntank, link up the two squads for a joint operation, or have a single unit assist in it.

Though my suit and Arieta's are both land-based, I am actually very interested in moving to space if I can switch out their suits. If not, I have no problem staying on Earth either. Also war-planning sucks. I hate life right now. I'll see you all again Saturday. You can switch out of your Sniper but Arieta can't. FeydWhat kind of stuff? Cleanup of Zeon forces on earth? RP generation for transfer to space? I am curious. I'd say Jaburo for one. Other then that it's back to our usual hi jinks, attacking bases or trying to out maneuver the Zeeks. You know what I'd like? To reenact the end of Rise From the Ashes (siege Hughendon really.) In space there's Solomon, and A Baoa Qu. I think those guys are going to need everything we can give them to beat Chan's economic war machine. I like the way the groups are set up if no one is going to space right now we should stick with these, nice names too.

Flession and I talked some with Zero-0 in chat about sending some EFGF members to bolster the somewhat-flaggin EFSF, and we decided that 3 was a reasonable number to start with, to replace Latooni, Nirvash, and another spacenoid who may be quitting soon.
I know that Aurem and Strikey have expressed interest in going to space, and there are many others, Flession and myself included, who would be willing. In the end, transfers will probably be selected based on both willingness and suit appropriateness. Jarvis Ackart is also a good candidate for space, with his high VP and free GM Command retrofit for space.
If we find that we're doing really well on the ground a bit after Odessa, we may send more people into space; the first wave may not be our only wave.

These groups are looking pretty good.
I would suggest that you are a leader for one of the groups though, Threid, since you are currently one of the most active members and are very good at communicating with other members.

So, if you need a hit-n-run with artillery strikes in the background, you either go buy a NPC Guntank, link up the two squads for a joint operation, or have a single unit assist in it. Your method leads us right back to the giant clusterfuck that we have right now. The problem is that you are assuming that a collection of mobile suits constitutes a division, when in reality the MS by itself should be the division. The way the game is setup right now MS are pretty powerful. Having all of our assets grouped into their specific types means that now we need all of the groups to reform to get support from another type, completely defeating the purpose. The only exceptions to this would be aquatic suits as they are most effective underwater, and really can't be helped much by land based MS as well as perhaps the hit and run team, which would make up for its deficiencies by engaging the enemy for short periods of time, but I'm still not entirely sold on the idea. Instead, each group should be designed to give at MINIMUM: 1x long range capable unit 2x close range specialized units 1x detector unit 1x transport This gives the unit as a whole mobility, the ability to detect enemy threats and a means of eliminating both short and long range threats. By having short and long range working together in one group, smaller missions could be undertaken without sacrificing capabilities or exposing weaknesses, while at the same time if more firepower is needed we can combine groups and still maintain the same proportions needed. In summary if we split everyone into groups that contain only like typed units we'll arrive back at the same problems we have now, just with group names as a cover for the organization we are trying to establish and nothing will really change. The type of organization you are suggesting, flession, would be more suited to large scale organizations like a real world army. As a final note, unrelated to my previous rant, when planning which teams people should be in, you should also consider some of the more permanent NPCs, be they officially named like Arieta, or un-officially named, yet highly survivable units like Aleksei's or Threid's NPCs.

Other than that, a bit of minor shuffling around of personnel should satisfy your requirements.

To make group planning easier, I made a Google Docs spreadsheet containing all the pre-Odessa EFGF information, like name, machine, MS team, etc. Granted, we'll probably lose some NPCs, gain VP, etc. during Odessa, but this gives us somewhere to start. You can view/edit it here. This is something that I've been thinking about doing for a while, as it gives us a clear picture of how/where everyone is, at-a-glance. I'll probably add an RP column in later on, so we can see how we're doing, money-wise. I thought about putting it into a regular Excel document, so that I could incorporate things like links to MS pages and profiles, and auto-calculating group VP/RP based on player VP and NPC lvl, but decided that the collaboration opportunities that Google Docs offers outweigh the benefits of an Excel document. Then again, if everyone else is more interested in viewing that editing the document, I'll put it into Excel later. In fact, I'll probably start working on an Excel version anyway, 'cause I like Excel so much. Edit: Forgot Thorvald. I'll add him in a bit, when I can grab some free time.

Update! One of the other things I've been meaning to do is create a similar spreadsheet for fleets, to keep track of who and what is where. This will make things easier for us when we need to look something up, and easier for Ketara when he needs to update fleet/roster information.
Also, feel free to give feedback on the EFGF Personnel worksheet I posted earlier, with suggestions for additions, subtractions, or modifications. The Excel version should be up later tonight.

Sorry for the 4th post in a row, but the basic version of the EFGF Spreadsheet is up. Grab it here. There are two worksheets in the file: One for keeping track of individual personnel, and one that keeps track of fleets/groups automatically on the other sheet. Please check it out and let me know what you think. I haven't taken the time to work on the design yet, so it may look a bit rough, but the important part (information and formulas) is there. Currently, the fleets/groups page tracks number of PCs, NPCs and ships in the fleet, as well as how much VP and RP the fleet/group has combined. This is all calculated automatically from the values in the personnel sheet. Please let me know if you think of any other helpful features.

Not every mission we have remaining here on Earth will require, in this case, artillery. As I said before, simple NPC mobile suits will cover that factor that doesn't really require a PC's touch while other PC's are utilizing their best sources. If we get strong leaders, capable of planning and handling their missions, we honestly shouldn't need much shuffling around, if we need any at all. Instead, each group should be designed to give at MINIMUM: 1x long range capable unit 2x close range specialized units 1x detector unit 1x transport To be honest, I did consider what you said while I was making this list. I did, in all seriousness, factor in splitting up having at least one person cover one specific field. There is nothing wrong with having a good, well-rounded team. But then I realized the following: 1) Bases in Zeon territory are going to be extra fortified right after Odessa because the forces here will probably be sticking around for a little bit, focusing on beefing up their bases and, of course repairing. Having specific groups that focus one on simple tasks works well to attack the bases hard and to do what it is we need it to do quickly. 2) Having a main goal for a mobile suit unit prevents us from sitting around with our dicks in our hands, waiting, gathering people from different areas. Thus preventing us from having to draw from certain areas for certain people who can do certain things and gathering them all in one place with the risk that a patrol prevents one vital person from appearing. That way, if they're all hit in a patrol, they can all handle each other. So, as a example, Feyd needs a water-side base assault with some Guerrilla warfare from the other side of the base attacks on the land towards the other side. Bamb. Send in the hit'n'runners and Aqua Team. Hopefully we win and everyone moves about their lives. They all have strength in what they do, they can do the one specific job they do well. It also keeps within that list you made at the beginning of this thread. 3) The weaknesses of the group can be easily be taken care of with NPC units. Or transfers, if the case calls for it. Besides, as Threid already pointed out, most of the mobile suits on each time cover your guidelines quite well in addition to my own specifications. For now, and this is just directly after Odessa, if we keep this style of grouping, we can be sure to help eliminate a good portion of Zeon forces while they are still licking their wounds. Once we do some damage with these very specific groups, we can all meet together at Jaburo or wherever and split up the groups again to a more well-rounded group setting. Isn't that what we're supposed to be? As I said, it'd be a utter waste of time to determine NPC units and roles while a major event where we could all very well die in a nuclear blast is going on. PC survivability can be more assumed, as well as whatever it is they're piloting. In any case, I do understand where you are coming from and do respect your tactical knowledge. I just really want us to come up strong right after Odessa, should we win. If we succeed, there won't be much else left for the EF to take care of but Space. In other words, I'd much rather work with you than against you. So, for right now, just ignore this thread, finish the planning of your war, and we'll discuss more about what to do after Odessa when you're done.

I am pretty intrested in after Odessa attempting to take California Base, this will effectively remove the last large base of the Zeon forces and should be a good way to secure earth against future Zeon assaults. It also gains our side more side RP (which we are desperately in need of currently.)

California or Alexandria are the most interesting targets imo.
I think immediately following Odessa we should do a massive scouting campaign of Zeon targets though.

I think immediately following Odessa we should do a massive scouting campaign of Zeon targets though. Would this be a task well-suited to groups of PCs or individual MS teams? This will determine when/how we split into groups.

Possilbly each group could have a target. I'm thinking multiple PC's would attempt to scout simultaneously.
