"A wise man once said 'The only way to win is not to play.' Maybe you should heed that advice and cut your losses."
Roslyn eyed Gwen from the opposite end of the table. "First, it wasn't a wise man that said it, it was a quote from a movie. Second, that is quite possibly the worst advice I've heard. Let the boring people refrain from taking risks." She tosses 7 chips into the pot. "700."
Gwen sighs as she throws in seven of her own chips, "Again with the reckless bluff? Honestly, I've told you many times about that tell of yours. Stop rubbing the tip of your fingers when you're bluffing."
Roslyn stops rubbing her fingers and placed her hands flat on the table, while Gwen flips over the fourth card, the four of hearts. With that, both players can see the following cards. Four of spade, four of diamond, three of hearts and the aforementioned, four of hearts.
"All in." Roslyn said as she pushed all her chips in while Gwen couldn't help but whistle.
"Even after telling you I know you're bluffing, you're still continuing with this farce of yours?" Gwen irritatingly swipe at the chips in front of her, spilling onto the center of the table. "Honestly, if you want to lose, then I'll damn well obliged you and your pettiness." Her voice cracking up, revealing her irritation at Roslyn. "If you don't want to continue playing, then just say so."
"Just deal already." Roslyn replied.
Gwen flips over the last card, revealing the five of hearts, and she couldn't resist flashing a wry smile. Before she could say another snide remark, she felt something soft land on her face. She pulled it away to reveal a blouse.
"Everything" was the only response.
"After so many games, haven't you learn going all in is the worst thing you can do against me, especially with such a flop showing?" Gwen locked eyes with Roslyn. "Fine, if you want to lose that badly, then I'll let you." She pushed the rest of her chips onto the table. Then she waved her hand across the table. "Go ahead, show me what you got." Upon seeing Roslyn smile, Gwen made her move.
Roslyn flipped over her first card, revealing a two of hearts, but before she can show her second face down card, Gwen 'accidentally' let one of her cards turn over. "Whoops," she says, showing the six of hearts. "My hands slipped." With that, Roslyn's fate was sealed. By 'accidentally' showing the six of hearts was in her possession, Roslyn would be unable to win, even if Roslyn had legitimately gotten the six of hearts herself. Gwen had shown her card first, any duplicates afterward will be considered a fake, and for cheating, she will lose everything. Gwen smiled innocently at Roslyn and says mockingly, "Sorry, please do continue. I am anxious to see what's your other card is. Could it be an ace and you get a straight flush, or is it a four and you get a three of kind? Or perhaps a seven of hearts, denying me a straight flush of my own but not a very high number in terms of flushes?"
Roslyn flinched for a moment, but she eventually revealed her second card, a King of Diamond. Gwen placed her face into her hands and sighed. "Or was I correct the first time and you were bluffing?" Gwen flipped over her two cards, the six of hearts and nine of spades. It was now Roslyn's turn to smile. "How..."
"When I tried reading your mind, I lose. When I tried cheating, I also lose. When I tried doing both, I still lose. Seems like whatever I tried will always end with you winning. You're simply too good at what you do best, cheating. And so, I did the only thing I could do. If I couldn't win by changing the way I play the game, then I just have to change the rules to the game, don't I?" Gwen looked half confused and half understanding, and Roslyn already has an idea what she was confused about. "I had someone fake an injury to get you out of your room, while I had security come and open the door while you were away. I had people find out how you marked your cards and altered them accordingly and then returned the twice-rigged deck back to your room." Gwen finally understood and lets Roslyn enjoy her moment of triumph. "You won because you were cheating only at a card game, I won because I cheated at everything else." She couldn't help but grin as she leaned in to claim her prize. "The only way I can lose is by not playing."
