Emil had, once again, been called to the bridge of the Tivvay-class Lucifer's Fury. He wasn't sure why, and honestly didn't really care. Nothing seemed to make him care very much nowadays. Next to him was someone he knew, someone he trusted. Florian Cuyler, the one piloting the Schnei Wiess. He considered Florian a friend, but he still wanted to stay away from him. He was having nightmares about him blowing up and brutally dying, just like everybody else he cares about.
Not too far away from the two of them were Aleksandra Beri, the captain of the fleet. Emil wasn't sure what she wanted, so he just stood there, staring at her, waiting for her response.

2 Day from Earth, Zeon Expeditionary Force Lucifer's Fury, Tivvay-class Bridge
Captain Aleksandra Beria turn her good eye towards the two pilots like the monoeye on a Zeonic mobile suit. The victory over the Federal Wyatt Fleet would normally please her. But the captain is in anything but a happy mood. She glared at Emil Myberg before reading out loud the report in her hand.
"'Pilot ignored landing instructions from flight officer. Broke arrestor gear and landing catch. Collided into mobile suit cages. Knocked down damaged units. Wounded twenty-five. Disrupted hangar operations for next two hours. Crash stopped by Florian Cuyler's mobile suit.'"
With a vicious swing, the Russian captain threw the thick bundle of papers at Emil, striking him in the face. "Explain yourself boy," snarled Beria with the forgiveness of a loaded shotgun," before I break off that sad excuse for a flightstick between your legs and feed it to the dogs."

Emil didn't really react very much to captain Beria's threats. Heck, he hardly even reacted when she threw the papers in his face. With seemingly no emotion in his voice, he started speaking.
"I'm sorry, miss Beria.."
However, after that you could almost start to hear.. some sadness?
"However.. the loss of Hardboiled and it's crew got me thinking. I think that got me distracted, and I'm sorry."
And after that his voice started sounding almost joyous.
"You know, my sister told me some things when I talked to her a while ago. 'Always smile' and 'make sure you live' seemed to be the general point of it all."
Emil's voice suddenly turned a bit more fierce, more.. sinister.
"So, I figured that.. Since the feddies are the cause of everything, and are all trying to kill me.. I should kill them instead."
He smiled a bit, but his eyes were filled with anger.
"And they killed all my friends, so I should kill at all of theirs, no? It's only a fair trade, is it not? Don't you agree, miss Beria? That is the only way for me to protect the few I know that are still alive, right??" he said, giving her a happy smile.
His smile started to seem almost nervous, and he turned to Florian instead.
"How about you, Florian? Don't you think it's what I should do? Besides, if I don't do that.. they might take you away from me, as well. And then I'd truly have nobody left to protect... No reason to smile."

Florian shook his head and took a few breaths before he opened his mouth.
"Insubordination leads to transfers. To keep me safe, follow orders."
He was silent awhile longer, his eyes shifting to Beria, judging her mood somewhat. A pensive look crossed his face before he continued. "But it's understandable in this case."

Richard had watched the, for the lack of a better word, confrontation between the two with a look of annoyance on his face. He knew it was Beria's style to be harsh, but with all that was going on, he figured Emil deserved some kind of a break. None of the injured were in danger of losing their lives, and the damaged units were still on track for being completely repaired.
"Enough, captain. I'll have him write a formal apology later, but for now, leave the poor kid alone. I know you'll probably want me to send him to the brig, but we can't afford to lose anyone over an accident now. If my word's still not good enough, take it up with Colonel Wu."
He hated dragging a superior officer into an argument, but Beria might not listen to him given her temper at times. Though he was a little upset with Emil, the emotional turmoil the young pilot was apparently going through meant that Richard was willing to cut him some slack. Losing comrades was never easy, and having a ship under your command sunk before your eyes was probably the worst thing that could happen to someone outside of dying themselves.
"Or perhaps it's even worse, if these past few months have meant anything..."

2 Day from Earth, Zeon Expeditionary Force Lucifer's Fury, Tivvay-class Bridge
The Russian captain tapped her fingers on the armrest as she sat in the command chair. Then she got up and in one long but quick step, Beria is in front of Emil Myberg. A hand with a grip that rivaled a hydraulic press grabbed Emil by the collar and lifted him into the air.
"Your sister want you live good life," snarled Beria in Emil's face with her heavy russian accent," life of honor and meaning. Enemy had neither. Sent you to die like dog. So sister save you. You may be dog but even dog of war serves with pride and purpose."
Then she strikes Emil across the face with the back of her hand. "Do not insult your sister with words of despair. Fight to honor her. Fight so that what she did for you not in vain."
Captain Beria turned around as she lifted Emil over her shoulder. "COMRADE BANKS!" she roars," I leave this sad excuse for a pilot in your capable hands." With a powerful swing, Emil is thrown across the bridge into the arms of the SAF officer.
"See to it he is ready for next sortie, Lieutenant," orders Beria," our glorious colonel will need every single one of you to crush the battles ahead of us." She now turns her attention towards Florian Cuyler.
"So boy with no voice finally spoke," remarked Beria curiously," do you have anything else you wish to say?"

Emil did not expect the captain to smack him like that. If anything, he expected to be showered in riches and praise for his determination to win against the Federation. However, after getting thrown into the arms of his fellow SAF member, he could not take it any more. In his fury he elbowed Richard Banks in the face and ran up against Beria once more. What seemed to be a split second was enough for Emil to grab Aleksandra Beria, someone much bigger than himself, by the throat with his right hand, and his words reflected his anger.
"What the hell is wrong with you!?" he yelled. "No matter what I do, you people always push me around, as if I was nothing else than a pawn in your game.."
His arm shaking with anger, he kept yelling.
"What the hell am I supposed to do to please you people?! I always follow your orders without doubting it a second, and yet still you have no trust in my abilities?!"
He managed to calm down a bit, and let go of Beria. It wasn't a very good idea to do such a thing to a superior officer, after all, and he knew that he was going to pay for it shortly. But he still felt like he had to do it.
"Speaking of my abilities.. you people really should cherish me much more."
He started smiling a bit.
"After all, no matter what happens, I never die. People around me might die, but I never even get a scratch. And even when I did, I was able to shrug it off like it was nothing."
Emil couldn't help but laugh.
"I don't know what it is. Maybe I just have the devil's luck? Maybe I'm some kind of abnormal survivor? Either way.." Emil stopped for a while. He just kept laughing, until he stopped out of nowhere. "I. Cannot. Die."
After finishing that sentence Emil burst out into a maniacal laughter that seemed to echo throughout the entire ship.

He hadn't expected Beria to backhand Emil, much less throw the former Federation pilot at him. Somehow managing to not fall over, he was about to respond when Emil elbowed him and started ranting. The files had noted some instability from oxygen deprivation, but he hadn't known it had meant insanity. Pushing his glasses up with his fingers, he walked over to Emil and grabbed him by the shoulder, a look of weary annoyance on his face. He didn't have the patience to deal with this right now, but some things needed to be said.
"What makes you think you're special in that regard, hmm? I've had hundreds under my command die, and I don't recall taking it out on my own side! I know you're upset over the loss of the Hardboiled, but you need to goddamn GET OVER IT ALREADY! This is war and people die! If you want to take it out on somebody, take it out on the people who left you to die, not the ones that saved your ass from slowly suffocating! Your service record so far has been remarkable, I'll admit, but you're a soldier like me, like Captain Beria, like Colonel Wu. We all do the same thing out here!"
He took a sharp breath in and looked away briefly. Sometimes the burdens of command meant laying down the law, but he couldn't afford to lose Emil for any upcoming sorties. He just hoped his solution would be something Beria found at least acceptable.
"I'm on your side, Emil, but all the same, I can't overlook the small fact that you just attacked me and the captain. I'm going to restrict you to your quarters for the next 72 hours. When we sortie, you'll be allowed out to take part in combat operations. I don't like having to do this, but it's better than getting tossed in the brig or leaving it up to Captain Beria, is it not? We need your help in battle - just as you need ours. This is a two way street, so don't get too cocky."

Emil wasn't sure what to do. He was still rather angry, but the others were much bigger, there were two of them and they both had a higher rank than him. He figured that there was nothing he could do, after all. He managed to calm down a bit and let out a weary sigh. After giving Richard a tired nod, he started talking, once more.
"I'm sorry.. I don't know what came over me." he said. "Perhaps.. perhaps I need some rest in my quarters."
However, he still couldn't help but be angry at Beria, and he certainly wasn't able to hide it very well, either, as he gave her a furious glare.

Florian had hidden under a bulkhead. At Granada, some of the subjects would get violent - Back then, it didn't seem to bother him at all, but he'd been jumpy lately. He didn't really understand it, but fear was an irrational emotion.
Only after hearing Banks yells quiet down did he peak out, regarding the situation warily. When Emil backed down completely, he re-emerged, though he kept tight against his hiding place. Beria frightened him somewhat, which was fine - that was her job. Banks was someone Florian felt fairly comfortable around, and that was fine too. But Emil's outburst sat very very wrong with the boy.
"The Infirmary has things to help you sleep," He added quietly, once Emil had finished.

2 Day from Earth, Zeon Expeditionary Force Lucifer's Fury, Tivvay-class Bridge
Beneath the anger and rage that was Beria's temper, the Russian captain observed the unfiltered emotions of Emil Myberg. At the very least, she done what she wanted to do: give Emil Myberg a focus. Something to train his feelings on instead of despair.
Captain Beria adjusted her collar as she looked over at Florian Cuyler, Richard Banks, and finally Emil Myberg. She cracks her right knuckles which sound like distant thunder to the bridge crew.
In a low but threatening voice, the Russian captain growled. "You and you," she said as she pointed a Cuyler and Banks," get him to the infirmary and then see to it he is confined to his quarters until the next sortie."
No one moved at first. "Leave," emphasized Beria.

Richard breathed a sigh of relief when Beria simply ordered them to remove Emil from the room and take him to the infirmary. He'd been expecting a lot worse ending to the situation, given Beria's temper. But he didn't want to stick around and risk the Russian captain losing her temper at him, much less Emil or Florian. Saluting Beria, he turned to look at Emil.
"Come on, let's get you to the infirmary like the captain said. Once you're fixed up, I'll have one of the marines take you to your quarters. I'll accompany you two, but I hope you do understand that you can't keep doing this. If you want a transfer to a different ship, put one in and I'll sign the paperwork. Or if you want, try and get transferred to garrison duty elsewhere. Less stressful that way. Uh, Florian, if you'll help me, we'll get him out of here."

Florian nodded at Banks, then turned and snapped a sharp salute at Beria before drifting over to Emil and quietly taking the other boy's hand to lead him away. Confinement to quarters, as he knew, was pretty brutal for the most part - boredom was never any good. On the other hand, he was grateful to Banks for suggesting it. There were worse punishments that one could be afforded in the military.
Emil was the closest thing Florian had to a friend. It would be heartbreaking to lose him to a reprimand. He offered Banks a smile to show his gratitude.

Emil couldn't help but smile a bit as he noticed Florian's behaviour. It seemed like he didn't scare the boy completely, and that relieved him. He put his other hand on Florian's head and pet him a bit before turning around and giving Banks a quick salute. He was slightly worried about what they would give him in the infirmary, and what he would do those 72 hours he was going to spend in his quarters, but he figured that he'll probably find that out eventually.
"Well then, shall we leave?" he asked Florian and Banks with a small smile on his face.

As they walked through the corridor to the infirmary, Richard found his mind drifting to what he suspected would be a confrontation with the Federation's one roaming fleet. He almost refused to use the name their intelligence officers had identified it as being called. 'Bollocks'? That was even worse than Disco, but it was further proof that the Federation still didn't take space warfare seriously. After all, on that commander's watch, they'd allowed two of their own fleets, including a supply fleet, be destroyed down to the last ship without even showing up. Even a deep strike into Side 7 had gone unopposed. Even so, he couldn't underestimate their foes, stupid names aside. Fending off Johnny Ridden was no mean feat, and they had enough ships to prove troublesome. Which is partially why he'd kept Emil out of the brig. They needed every available pilot to fight, and providing the young pilot with an outlet for his rage could help him calm down without him striking more people in his anger.
"Emil, please try to stay alive...I suspect we'll be in a big fight soon, if what intel says is true. It hurts losing comrades on the battlefield, but that's the price we pay for trying to change the world through a war. But no use fretting about it now. Just try and get some rest. If we need to sortie, we'll come get you...and try and stay alive. The best thing you can do to honor the memory of the Hardboiled's crew is to live. Cliche, I know, but they didn't hire me for my pearls of wisdom."
