She saw the punch coming, but there was little she could about it. She shifted to the right and in what felt like an eternity, she saw it lurch forward little by little, until finally, contact. The metals screeched in horror as the metallic fist missed its target and instead, left a very nasty scar. However, despite there being contact, if it's not a killing blow, it might as well be a miss. A shift into forward momentum, arms opening wide and another contact. This time, the defender became the aggressor and lifted the other mobile suit with a massive bear hug before slamming it hard onto the ground. Impact, shock, then silence. With that, the battle is over and the victor was declared. Amidst the roar of the crowd, the still standing petite mobile suit made its way back to its designated area. The cockpit finally opened up and the pilot leaped out.
"Hell, that was nothing like actual hand to hand combat." Roslyn yelled out.
Gwen, after directing the mechanics to do a quick patch up on the damages, responded to Roslyn. "No one said it was. It's a machine, Roslyn. The thing is not meant to move as fluid as a human being."
"Two arms, two hands, two legs, a torso, and a head. What's the point of making it looking like a human and have it function like crap." She would've loved to vent some more, but times a wasting, and she got to her point. "So, did you find any information on her?"
Gwen sighed and shook her head. "Sorry, but it's hard to find any reliable information in this hellhole."
"She's here." A voice cut out from behind them. The two turned their head and were shocked to see Mao standing there.
"Should've known it was you when I heard that cat meowing back in the city."
"Oh, don't be like that, Rosy. It's hard to not get curious when I see you sneaking around like that." She looked at Roslyn with wide innocent eyes. "And aren't you a bit curious to know what I found out?"
Roslyn sighs in resignation. It was really hard to stay mad at her. "Alright, fine. You can stay. Just... tell me everything, alright?"
"Anything for you, Rosy." She replied with a mischievous smile on her face. "First off, those men back at the city weren't lying. They had tricked her into signing a contact that forced her to fight in these underground mobile suits fights. She managed to win most of her fight, and even now, she is still active and has not left their services. I could find out more, but I wanted to see you in action."
Roslyn sighed in relief. "Good, then it wasn't a mistake signing up this tournament."
Gwen nearly choked up from surprise. "Mistake?! You paid alot of credits for the entry fee, and from what I know, you're not even trying to win! You're just paid them our hard earn money just to get in for the chance of gathering information."
"It's only money, Gwen. We can always earn it back somehow. But it's her, Gwen. I owe her that much to do whatever I can to bring her back home."
"Oh? Is that all you're doing it for?" Mao mused. Her eyes suddenly has a weird look to them. "You're not playing for the other team, are you now, Rosy?"
"What? NO! How cou-"
"I'm just joking. In fact, I'm somehow jealous of how you can be devoted to her. Anyway, best not to keep your fans waiting. You're up again."
Gwen snapped her head toward the nearest terminal. "What? So soon?"
"It's fine, Gwen. This is what I get for signing up for the tournament with the cheapest entry fee. A new match every five minutes." She was about to climb back into her cockpit before Gwen intercepted her.
"If the battles do get a bit out of hand, you know you can always use 'that'." A quick nod later, Roslyn was back into the cockpit and she moved her petite mobile suit into the center of the arena for her next match. Yet another meaningless event to the crowd, but perhaps the most eventful battle in her life.
